DREAMS. WITH THE MEGA MILLIONS JACKPOT AT 560 MILLION AND POWERBALL AT 875 MILLION, THERE’S A LOT OF HYPE OVER THE COMBINED $1.435 MILLION UP FOR GRABS THIS WEEKEND. NOW, IF NO ONE MATCHES ALL SIX NUMBERS, FRIDAY’S JACKPOT COULD BE MORE THAN $560 MILLION. WITH NO MEGA MILLIONS WINNER TUESDAY. THIS IS POWERBALL AND NO POWERBALL WINNER WEDNESDAY. ALL RIGHT. WHAT’S THE BIG ONE? PLAYING HYPE IS GROWING AS FAST AND AS BIG AS BOTH JACKPOTS. ARE YOU A POWERBALL GUY OR A MEGA? MILLIONS OR BOTH? BOTH. I BUY BOTH. DO YOU PLAY EVERY WEEK OR IS IT JUST BECAUSE THE JACKPOT IS SO BIG? I PLAY WHEN I THINK OF IT ARE PEOPLE REMIND ME COST ME $4. YOU KNOW, WE ALL KNOW THAT WE HAVE A VERY SMALL CHANCE OF WINNING. AND I THINK THE LURE OF IT’S JUST THAT WHEN YOU GET INTO THE BILLIONS, PEOPLE THINK IT’S SOMEHOW THERE’S A BETTER CHANCE, THERE’S PROBABLY A WORSE CHANCE. BUT PEOPLE GET EXCITED ABOUT IT, CHANGE THEIR LIVES, THOSE TYPES OF THINGS. THE CASH OPTION WOULD BE $281 MILLION FOR MEGA MILLIONS AND NEARLY 442 MILLION FOR POWERBALL. WHAT I DID WITH THE MONEY WILL STOP BY QUITTING MY JOB AND TAKE CARE OF FRIENDS AND FAMILY. WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU DO WITH IT? I FEEL GOOD. YOU KNOW, THE OPPORTUNITY IS THERE IF YOU DON’T PLAY, THEY WON’T PAY. SO IT’S WORTHWHILE TO BUY A COUPLE TICKETS. THE MEGA MILLIONS DRAWING IS TONIGHT. THE POWERBALL DRAWING IS TOMO

Call it a hat trick.A Maryland woman has won her third lottery prize of at least $100,000 in five years, a feat she attributes to strategy and luck. The stay-at-home mom, 30, from Wicomico County won her latest prize playing a $100,000 Lucky scratch-off ticket, Maryland Lottery said Monday."I couldn't believe it when I saw how much I'd won," she told lottery officials, according to a release on the website. "I immediately called my husband and said, 'We did it again.'"When asked by lottery officials how she managed to win for a third time, she said research."We figure out which scratch-off games have been on sale for a long time but still have a lot of big-money prizes," she said. The information is available on the Maryland Lottery website. The $100,000 Lucky game, for example, debuted last September and still has more than 40 top prizes available.Still, there's an element of luck, especially when it comes to choosing where to buy the ticket. She picked a Goose Creek convenience store in Mardela Springs based on sheer intuition."I knew that they sold a big ticket a few weeks ago," she said. "I hoped that there was still some luck hanging around there."As for the prize money, the lucky woman says she's putting it all in the bank for her children.Despite her repeated wins, she's still in shock: "This is as crazy as it was the other times. It's unbelievable."

*** play of chance. Tonight's mega millions. Jackpot is an estimated *** new tonight. $207 million. Now let's see if I can make you *** millionaire tonight and the chance to dream. I would like to be *** billionaire. I want to win that lottery in there. If I win, I'll probably uh take *** vacation, retire, buy *** house and probably *** boat. But the lottery is more than fantasies of egregious wealth. So why do we have lotteries are extremely old mechanisms of raising money for government. That date back. Israeli is the 15th century Jonathan Cohen is the author of $4 and *** dream state lotteries in modern America. He says the precise origins of the lottery are unknown. It's tough because the evidence is sort of mixed. There's some evidence, I'm not really convinced of it that like *** lottery was used to fund the construction of the great wall of china. Other records suggest roman emperor caesar augustus used *** lottery to help fund city repairs. *** lottery was played in parts of europe in the 14 hundreds. There's *** record from 14 45 of *** dutch town using *** lottery to raise funds to build *** wall around the city. In fact, the word lottery comes from the dutch word lot, which means fate. Eventually the lottery made its way to the U. S. *** lottery was used to fund the british colonization of Jamestown. And then in the early american republic in the colonial period it was used to fund infrastructure projects including the construction of churches and dormitories for such notable universities as Harvard Princeton and Yale Cohen says lotteries back then looked different, They more closely resembled raffles and tickets could be pricey. So sometimes people bought just *** share of *** ticket, but not everyone was on board with this form of gambling during the second great awakening. There is ***, *** bit of *** moral backlash in the 18 twenties, 18 thirties, states outlaw them after the Civil War. Actually, they come back very briefly. But then by the 18 eighties, 18 nineties, there's only one state lottery left in the country that was the notoriously corrupt Louisiana. State lottery officials bribed state lawmakers and agents sold tickets across America. It was depicted at the time as an octopus spreading. It's evil throughout the country. But in 18 90 Congress ban Interstate lottery ticket sales, effectively shutting down the last legal lottery in the us. Because of this American soured on lotteries for decades until 1964, when New Hampshire starts *** statewide lottery that was the New Hampshire sweepstakes it was called and it was absolutely insane compared to what we have for modern lotteries. Initially, *** horse race determines the winning ticket numbers. New Hampshire tried its luck at the lotto to bring in funds to see supplement its low state taxes. Its success sparked other states to follow. In 1974 massachusetts introduced scratch off tickets and four years later the rollover jackpot was born producing massive winning pots, national games like powerball and mega millions meant even larger possible winnings and americans continue to test their luck. Lotteries are legal in 45 states, and about half of americans say they play the lottery. According to *** 2016 survey. In 2021, Americans spent over $100 billion 292.2 million shot of winning the powerball jackpot. That means it's more likely you get struck by lightning, die from *** shark attack or get *** hole in one in golf twice in the same round than you are to win the lottery, but that does not keep people from lining up for *** shot. What keeps people playing the lottery is that it is *** form of pursuit of the american dream. Even losing tickets provide value to lottery players because they provide the chance for *** few minutes for *** few days for *** few hours to dream of *** new life and you can't dream unless you play, I'm feeling lucky. It's been *** good week

Are you the winner of the Powerball's $546 million jackpot? Tonight's numbers are: 17, 24, 48 62, 68 and Powerball 23.The jackpot, worth $282 million in cash, climbed after no ticket matched all six numbers in Monday night's drawing. According to Powerball officials, Monday's top-winning ticket was sold in New Jersey and matched all five white balls to win a $1 million prize. The last Powerball jackpot was won on April 19 when a ticket in Ohio matched all five white balls and the red Powerball to win a prize worth $252.6 million. Since then, there have been 32 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner. If someone wins Wednesday's jackpot, they can choose one lump sum payment of $282 million or an annuity option that includes an immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each year. If no one wins Wednesday's jackpot, the next drawing will be Saturday, July 8. Powerball tickets cost $2 per play. Tickets are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

After taxes, he received $551,670.

The man stopped at Liberty Mart 3 in Owingsville for breakfast when he bought the $20 Mega 7’s Limited Edition ticket September 15.

“I got to looking at it (prize amount) when I first thought I won seven thousand. I scratched further and further until I saw seven hundred seventy-seven thousand. I was so nervous. The more I looked at it the more nervous I got,” he told lottery officials.

“Everybody plays to win the big one but when it happens, it’s hard to believe,” he added.

“This is life changing,” his wife said.

As far as what they plan to do with the extra money, he told officials they’re going to take their time and don’t want to do anything too quick.

Liberty Mart 3 will receive a $7,770 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

Video above: Attorney advises lottery winners what to do after they've won There were no big treats from the Halloween night Powerball drawing, as none of the tickets sold matched all six numbers. The lack of a winner means the next drawing Wednesday night will be for a massive $1.2 billion jackpot. The winning numbers drawn Monday were: white balls 13, 19, 36, 39, 59 and the red power ball 13.The increased jackpot will be the 4th-largest in U.S. history. The biggest prize was a $1.586 billion Powerball jackpot won by three ticketholders in 2016.Massive lottery jackpots have become more common in recent years as lottery officials have adjusted game rules and ticket prices to pump up the top prizes. The most recent tweak came in August, when Powerball officials added an additional drawing day — going from two a week to three — to build larger prizes and boost sales.Although the advertised top prize Wednesday will be an estimated $1.2 billion, that is for winners who receive their winnings through an annuity paid over 29 years. Winners almost always opt for cash, which for Wednesday night's drawing will be an estimated $596 million. No one has hit all six numbers since Aug. 3, meaning there have now been 38 consecutive draws without a jackpot winner — a testament to how slim the odds are of winning the jackpot: 1 in 292.2 million.Powerball is played in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The Powerball jackpot keeps getting larger because players keep losing.

After no one matched all six numbers for Saturday night's estimated $825 million grand prize, the jackpot is now up to $1 billion.

The winning numbers Monday night were: 13, 19, 36, 39 and 59 white balls and the 13 red power ball.

The jackpot is the second-largest in U.S. history. The biggest prize was a $1.586 billion Powerball jackpot won by three ticketholders in 2016.

Although the advertised top prize will be an estimated $1 billion, that is for winners who receive their winnings through an annuity paid over 29 years. Winners almost always opt for cash, which for Monday's drawing is an estimated $497.3 million.

Players who missed out on the latest grand prize in the 30-year-old lottery shouldn't immediately toss away their receipts.

A Florida ticket holder matched all five white balls in Saturday's drawing and increased the prize to $2 million by including the game's "Power Play" feature. Six tickets won a $1 million prize by matching five white balls, including two in California, two in Michigan, one in Maryland and one in Texas.

Another 17 tickets won a $150,000 prize while there were 80 winners of $50,000 each. More than 3.8 million tickets won cash prizes totaling above $38 million, Powerball said.

It has been nearly three months since anyone hit all six numbers and took the lottery's top prize, with a $206.9 million jackpot win in Pennsylvania on Aug. 3. Thanks to Powerball's long odds of one in 292.2 million, there have now been 37 consecutive draws without a jackpot winner.

Powerball is played in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Video above: Attorney advises lottery winners what to do after they've wonThe only thing better than winning the lottery is claiming two lottery prizes in one day.A Delaware woman was in for a once-in-a-lifetime surprise after she claimed two six-figure lottery prizes in one day on Oct. 20, according to a news release from the Delaware Lottery. The anonymous 70-year-old winner was "thrilled" after she won a $100,000 prize from an "Instant Game" ticket she purchased in Newark, Delaware.About a week after realizing she had won the prize, she headed to the lottery's headquarters to pick up her winnings. The prize was the largest she had won since she began playing the lottery seven years ago, according to the news release. On her way home from picking up her winnings, she decided to try her luck again -- and purchased three "Serious Money" tickets at a convenience store. One of the tickets was a $300,000 top winner, says the release. The woman described claiming two six-figure tickets in one day as "absolute insanity.""My best friend was the first person I told about winning the $100,000 top prize, and she came with me to claim it," the two-time winner said in the news release."When I scratched the $300,000 winning 'Serious Money' ticket later in the day, we just sat there in disbelief."The woman returned to the lottery headquarters to pick up the $300,000 prize. She plans to use most of the winnings for her retirement fund, according to the release. The chances of winning the $100,000 "Instant Game" prize are just 1 in 120,000, according to the Delaware Lottery. Monday night's record $1.9 billion Powerball jackpot drawing has been delayed due to a technical problem. The official results won't be known until Tuesday morning, the Multi-State Lottery Association said in a statement."Because of a technical problem tonight, we are unable to bring you the Powerball drawing at this time. As soon as we're able to resolve the issue and conduct the drawing, it will be available for viewing on Powerball.com and on our YouTube channel Powerball 39," the Powerball announcer said at 11 p.m. ET Monday. Watch the full announcement from Powerball in the video player above. The Powerball website currently says, “results pending.”The jackpot is nearly $400 million larger than the previous record jackpot and will keep growing until someone wins the prize. Only four previous jackpots have topped $1 billion, but none of those are close to the current prize, which started at $20 million back on Aug. 6 and over three winless months has grown ever more massive.A winner who opts for a lump sum payment would get an estimated $929.1 million, with the $1.9 billion for a winner who chose an annuity, paid annually over 29 years.Even as more people attracted by the giant prize drop $2 on a Powerball ticket, the game's ultra-long odds of 1 in 292.2 million means there still is a good chance that another drawing will pass without anyone winning the grand prize. That would push the jackpot for Wednesday's drawing to more than $2 billion.Powerball is played in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Mega Millions players have a chance to strike it rich Friday night.Friday night's winning numbers are: 30 - 43 - 45 - 46 - 61 MB: 14The jackpot has grown to $1.35 billion.Plenty of people have won smaller prizes in the lottery game, but no one has matched all six numbers and won the grand prize since Oct. 14. Those 25 straight drawings without a winner have allowed the top prize to roll over and grow larger for three months. It's now the fourth-largest lottery prize in U.S. history. If there isn't a winner Friday night, the jackpot will inch closer to the record $2.04 billion Powerball prize won last November in California. The long stretch without a Mega Millions jackpot winner is because of the game’s steep odds of 1 in 302.6 million. The $1.35 billion prize is for a winner who chooses an annuity with annual payments over 29 years. Winners almost always take the cash option, which for Friday night’s drawing would be an estimated $707.9 million.Mega Millions is played in 45 states as well as in Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The $1.35 billion prize is for a winner who chooses an annuity with annual payments over 29 years. Winners almost always take the cash option, which for Friday night’s drawing would be an estimated $707.9 million.

Mega Millions is played in 45 states as well as in Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Someone in Washington state overcame steep odds Monday night to win an estimated $747 million Powerball jackpot. The winning numbers were 05, 11, 22, 23, 69 and the Powerball 07.Lottery officials did not immediately make an announcement of a winner, but the Powerball website says there was a jackpot winner in Washington state. The site also says the jackpot for the next drawing on Thursday has dropped to $20 million. It was the first Powerball jackpot win since Nov. 19, 2022. That winless streak allowed the prize to grow larger and larger until it stood as the ninth-largest in U.S. history. The $747 million jackpot Monday is for a winner opting for an annuity paid over 29 years. Higher interest rates have allowed annuity payments to increase compared with earlier jackpots, when rates were lower. Most winners prefer cash, which for Monday night's drawing would be $403.1 million. The game's abysmal odds of 1 in 292.2 million are designed to build big prizes drawing more players. That strategy certainly has worked recently, as someone in Maine won a $1.35 billion Mega Millions prize in January and a California player hit a record $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot last November. No one has claimed either of those prizes.Powerball is played in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

A Virginia woman recently decided to play the lottery "on a whim." She was up, while others were in bed, and purchased a ticket.

Then, when Robin Meador realized how much she had just won, she wasn't able to celebrate with anyone. Any human that is.

I hit that mega, that big pot so I can help my family and friends, you know, I think it's crazy. I think it's amazing and I really hope it's somebody local. I didn't participate in this one. I usually only buy it when it's real big and sometimes me and my friends will go in on one together. This one I just kind of ignored and somebody else one. I think it's just luck. Pure luck all around how you look at it on everything. This luck be the right place at the right time and it's, this is a good store too. So maybe that had something to do with it. We were here grocery shopping yesterday and it went through my mind. Maybe just for fun. I should buy it. And then I thought, no, never mind. And I didn't do it. And dog on someone one. Mhm. Last time it was 150 million that we had here and I believe after taxes, he walked out with About 75, 70 or 75 million and he's still around town. You see him every once in a while, still playing lottery, did you

After 40 drawings without a big Powerball winner, a single ticket sold in California matched all six numbers drawn Monday and was the lucky winner of the nearly $700 million jackpot prize, officials said. The winning numbers drawn Monday night were 12, 22, 54, 66 and 69. The Powerball was 15.Thanks to nearly four months of futility and final ticket sales, the Powerball jackpot has climbed to $699.8 million, making it the seventh largest in U.S. lottery history. No one has won the game's grand prize since June 5.This was the first jackpot won on a Monday night since Aug. 23, when the game launched a third weekly drawing, officials said.According to California Lottery's Twitter account, the winner was from Morro Bay. The winner will be able to choose between the annuity option paid over 29 years or the cash option of $496 million. Both prize options are subject to taxes. There were five $1 million-winning tickets sold; two in Massachusetts and one each in Virginia, Florida and Arizona. The 41st drawing set a record, topping the previous mark of 36 drawings that ended in January 2021. The longer the game goes without a grand prize winner, the larger the payout will grow. The jackpot drought is by design, as the game's long odds of 292.2 million to one are intended to generate massive prizes that draw more players. Lottery officials have noted that despite the long wait for a winning jackpot ticket, plenty of people have won smaller prizes, including 2.8 million players in Saturday's drawing alone. Those winnings ranged from $1 million to $4.Powerball is played in 45 states plus Washington, D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

The house former drug kingpin Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán fled in 2014 when Mexican marines had him surrounded underwent some changes recently as the Mexican government prepared to give it away in a national lottery. The surveillance cameras that covered every angle of the modest home’s exterior were removed. And the hole under a bathtub that Guzmán had slipped through to reach a network of tunnels was covered with a concrete slab. The Associated Press was given access to the property in a quiet Culiacan neighborhood ahead of the lottery. In recent weeks, Mexico’s Institute to Return Stolen Goods to the People, known by its initials as INDEP, gave it a fresh coat of white paint inside and out and tiled over the spot in the bathroom where the tub and tunnel entry point had been.President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has been talking up the lottery of seized properties, but gave no mention to the history of this particular house. An expansive home in one of Mexico City’s swankiest neighborhoods and a private box at the famed Azteca Stadium have garnered more attention.INDEP’s website lists it only as “Casa en Culiacán.” It’s about 2,800 square feet and located, perhaps appropriately, in a neighborhood called Libertad, or “Freedom.” The government values the two-bedroom home at $183,000.The house had been abandoned for years and the marines did some damage when they searched it, so repairs were necessary.Guzmán escaped that time through the tunnels, but his freedom lasted only days. On Feb. 22, 2014, the marines descended again, this time in a condo on the coast in Mazatlan.By that time, Guzmán already had a reputation for daring escapes. He had slipped out of one of Mexico’s maximum-security prisons in 2001, allegedly in a laundry cart.In July 2015, less than a year and half after his capture in Mazatlan, Guzmán slipped through a tunnel dug up to the drain in his cell’s shower and rode a motorcycle on tracks laid through a tunnel to escape another maxium-security Mexican prison. The marines captured him again six months later in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, where he had been holed up in another unremarkable home.Guzmán was extradited to the United States, tried, convicted and sentenced to life in prison in July 2019.INDEP officials, who declined to be identified because they were not authorized to speak, said they were surprised the house was getting attention. It is not luxurious. There is no swimming pool, none of the ostentation that characterizes other narco properties in Sinaloa.People nearby said they didn't know who their neighbor was.“We never knew anything, we never knew who lived there, we never saw anyone,” said one neighbor, who quickly cut off the conversation. Many locals aren't interested in speaking of Guzmán or even saying his name in a place where the Sinaloa cartel remains powerful. The house was well located for its previous purposes. There is a neighbor only on one side. On the other is a subterranean storm sewer — Culiacan built hundreds of kilometers of them to deal with torrential rains — which is where the bathroom tunnel connected to make Guzmán’s escape possible. A school is across the street. On the morning of Feb. 17, 2014, the neighborhood was suddenly filled with the marines’ grey trucks. They blocked traffic. There was no doubt they were interested in the seemingly unremarkable house. But they didn’t find Guzmán there. In fact, during his U.S. trial, a witness testified that Guzmán was not in any of the five houses marines searched, despite reports to the contrary at the time.Five days later, the marines caught up to Guzmán 125 miles to the south in Mazatlan, where he was staying with his wife Emma Coronel and their twin daughters.INDEP tried to auction off the home last year. It started the bidding at about $130,000. There were no takers. Now, López Obrador is giving it away as part of the lottery, with the drawing scheduled for Wednesday, the day before Mexico celebrates its Independence Day. It’s the first time Mexico’s national lottery is giving away property. The proceeds are to go to Mexico’s Olympic athletes.“This raffle is very important and I call on all the people, those who can help buying a ticket, or two or three,” López Obrador said at his daily news conference last week.In downtown Mexico City, lottery ticket vendors said sales have been good.Jorge López said he’s been selling 100 to 120 of the $12 tickets daily since last week. “Right now, it’s selling very well.” He said the value of the 22 prizes, many well above that of the Culiacan house, is drawing attention. Some people ask about who the properties’ previous owners were, but not many, he said.Back in Culiacan, across town near the center, Ignacio Mariscal said he supports the lottery. “Those houses didn’t serve anyone; those people had them,” Mariscal said. “I see it as perfectly fine. It’s to help people in need.”__AP writer Christopher Sherman in Mexico City contributed to this report.
