Three U.S. tourists have died at a resort in the Bahamas after falling ill, officials of the Atlantic island nation confirmed, and another was airlifted to a hospital for treatment.

Acting Prime Minister Chester Cooper issued a statement Friday saying that police are investigating and the cause of death was unknown, though foul play “is not suspected.”

Their identities were not initially made public.

The health minister, Dr. Michael Darville, told Eyewitness News Bahamas on Saturday that some hotel guests went to a clinic Thursday with nausea and vomiting, and were treated, and left. Three were later found dead. A fourth was flown to a hospital in New Providence.

He said the environmental health scientists, physicians and others were investigating to ensure there was not a public health hazard.

“We feel that what we are seeing is an isolated case associated in a particular area,” he said, adding that investigators are doing toxicology and blood tests to help determine the cause of the illness.

The head of communications for the prime minister's office, Latrae L. Rahming, tweeted that the deaths occurred at Sandals Emerald Bay in Exuma.

In a statement to People Magazine, a representative for Sandals confirmed the deaths and said the company was “actively working to support both the investigation as well as the guests’ families in every way possible.”

SHE WITNESSED, SHE HAS LIVED ON THE ISLAND FOR 23 YEARS AND SAID THIS IS THE FIRST TIME SHE HAS EVER ENCOUNTERED THE PREDATOR. >> AMANDA AND HER DOG COMING FACE-TO-FACE WITH A SHARK ON MARTHA’S VINEYARD. >> WHEN I TOOK A STEP BACK IN THE SHARK’S WHEN OFF, I THOUGHT HE WAS SWIMMING OFF FOR GOOD BUT THEN HE TURNED AROUND AND THAT’S WHEN HE CAME RIGHT UP. >> THE TWO WERE ON THEIR DAILY WALK FRIDAY WHEN THEY STOPPED BY A SANDY STRIP TO PLAY FETCH. PORTLAND, ALSO KNOWN AS SCOTTY, WAS PICKING THROUGH SEA GLASS WHEN HER DOG WAS CAUGHT UP IN A CASE OF MISTAKEN IDENTITY. >> I ALMOST THINK HE THOUGHT MAYBE MY DOG WAS THAT SEAL. >> CAUSING THE SHARK TO TRY TO GET AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE. >> HE ACTUALLY CAME RIGHT UP AS IF HE WAS GOING TO COME ON THE SHORE. >> OH NO HE’S STUCK. >> THE SHARK EVENTUALLY LEFT THEM ALONE LEAVING THEM WITH A STUNNED FEELING. >> I HAVE NEVER SEEN MY DOG HAVE A LOOK OF SHOCK ON HIS FACE AND THE LOOK OF SHOCK WAS I HAD IMAGINE WHAT THE LOOK OF SHOCK WAS ON MY FACE. I DON’T THINK HE COULD BELIEVE IT. >> EXPERT GREG SAYS THE SHARK COULD BE SUFFERING FROM A BACTERIAL INFECTION IN ITS BRAIN. IT WITH THAT ILLNESS GET DISORIENTED ENDING UP BEACHING THEM

A woman who lives on Martha's Vineyard is sharing details about her close encounter with a shark, the first for the 23-year resident of the Massachusetts island.Amanda Borland and her dog, Hamish, were out for their daily walk in Vineyard Haven on Friday when they decided to stop by a sandy strip near the end of the Lagoon Pond drawbridge to play fetch. Borland, who is also known as "Scotty" to locals, was picking through sea glass when she saw the shark, a porbeagle, swimming close to shore."When I took a step back and the shark kind of swam off, I thought he was swimming off for good. But then he turned around and that's when he came right up," Borland said. All of a sudden, Borland said she and Hamish were practically face to face with the shark."I just wasn't expecting it, and he actually came right up as if he was going to come up on the shore," she said. "I almost think that he thought, maybe, my dog was a seal." Borland said the shark eventually left Hamish and her alone, but they were left stunned by the encounter, which she captured on video."Once we stepped back out of the water, I had never seen my dog have a look of shock in his face, and the look of shock in his face was, I imagine, what the look of shock was in my face. I don't think he could believe it," Borland said.Dr. Greg Skomal, a shark biologist at the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries, said the porbeagle shark in Borland's video may be suffering a bacterial infection in its brain. Sharks with that illness oftentimes get disoriented in the water and end up beaching themselves.

Several people have now been charged in connection to a series of fights at Kings Island over the weekend. The popular amusement park was forced to close about 30 minutes early Saturday night after several fights broke out between teenagers.Video taken by a guest shows people pushing and punching each other and knocking people to the ground. Both young men and a young woman can be seen hitting others, repeatedly.According to dispatch reports and video, there were at least two large-scale fights within the amusement park on Saturday, with one of them spilling over into the parking lot.Officer Peter Morris with the Mason Police Department was among the first on scene. In a report, Morris says he assisted park security in trying to break up the crowd, adding he saw a male hit a female multiple times, even grabbing her by the throat.Morris says he was shoved to the ground, claiming multiple people started to pull on his equipment while hitting him -- at one point even being sprayed with pepper spray. The report states Morris only had minor cuts and bruises.A statement from the Mason Police Department released Tuesday says multiple individuals have been identified and that "suspect information will be presented to Warren County Juvenile Court for charges."Authorities did not release any names, saying only that they are still working to identify "other responsible parties."Officials with Kings Island also released a statement Tuesday, saying that they will up security measures within the park. Video footage throughout the park has been shared with investigators, park officials said.Increased security will be in place at the park, beginning this weekend. What that increased security entails is unknown."We will continue to utilize our Protect Our Park program, which enables guests to report any safety or security concern through their mobile device," a statement from Kings Island reads. "We are implementing additional security protocols and operational policies as appropriate. We believe these actions will help ensure that Kings Island remains what it has been for nearly 50 years – a place where generations of families and friends can gather for a day of safe fun and good food. More than 3 million guests a year have counted on us for exactly that since we opened in 1972, and we will continue to deliver on that promise for generations to come."

Kings Island chaos was caught on camera Saturday.Police were called to the amusement park to break up large groups of teens fighting.People who were there said it was traumatic not only in the park, but outside in the parking lot.We learned a police officer was assaulted while trying to help someone else who was assaulted.Mason police said that officer was attacked with a "chemical spray" but added that it was not his mace. They said that officer is fine. But people we talked with said the whole scene was scary."It became a mob. Mosh pit-style fighting," witness Shan Powell said.Powell captured video that might get your heart racing.Families and people including Powell who went to Kings Island for an escape on Saturday, found themselves trapped in tension."There was a lot of yelling. Ice, sodas being thrown at the officers, at each other, but it was just pretty much chaos," Powell said.Powell said he was eating at Coney Bar-B-Que when he said a big group of teens filled the area and a fight broke out at about 7:30 p.m."The whole day, there had been quite a bit of people living without consequences, line-jumping, stealing Coke products, and it was just a really weird feeling throughout the whole day," he said.Powell saw security, Mason police, Warren County Sheriff's deputies and Ohio state troopers arrive quickly. The park said it closed 30 minutes early due to the bad behavior. But people said the fighting only continued in the parking lot."We really just got to work together. This is a community issue. It's not going to be just Kings Island to fix it. It's not going to be just Mason police that fixes it. It's not going to be just the parents that fix it. It's going to be a unified effort," Powell said.So what is the fix?Powell thinks more staffing, maybe new rules and perhaps a hard look in the mirror."They were terrorizing that park last night and you've just got to decide: Is that who you want to be? Is that the image that you want to portray? And then, just make the choice and stick with it and if some of your friends don't follow you, that's OK. But just make the right choices," Powell said.A spokesman for Kings Island released this statement to WLWT initially:"The safety of our guests and associates is always our top priority. On Saturday, the decision was made to close the park 30 minutes early due to unruly behavior and altercations involving a number of teenagers. This behavior did not align with our park's values, and was not the experience we want any guest to have while visiting Kings Island."He then released a second statement to us when we circled back, asking about concerns from passholders who are considering dropping their membership if the fights become a trend:"Yesterday's event was not a normal occurrence at King Island. Unruly behavior has no place at our park. The altercations on display last night do not align with our park's values, and were not the experience we want any guest to have while visiting Kings Island. We are taking immediate steps to address the situation so that our guests enjoy their future visits."Investigators said they have made no arrests, but also said charges could still be filed if they are able to positively identify people involved. They're also still unsure if anyone was hurt during the fighting because they said everyone scattered and ran from the area.
