GARY, Ind. — Authorities in Indiana are investigating the shooting deaths of four people shot within a 24-hour period in Gary.

During a press conference, Gary Police Chief Brian Evans told news outlets that shootings were not random and the victims were targeted, CBS and ABC News reported.

Evans said the first shooting occurred sometime Sunday when a woman who'd be shot was dropped off by someone she knew at Methodist Hospital, according to the media outlets.

Evans said she later succumbed to her injuries, the news outlets reported.

Around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Evans said police responded to a shooting at a residence, where they found one woman dead and another person was injured, CBS and ABC reported.

Sometime Monday evening, police said they found two teenage boys dead from gunshot wounds at a residence, the news outlets reported.

According to police, they believe the two victims were killed at the same time, the media outlets reported.

The Lake County Coroner's office later identified the teens killed as 16-year-old Dayvion Jones and 14-year-old Bobby Wright, CBS News and the Chicago Tribune reported.

Police said the shootings are not drug- or gang-related, the news outlets reported.

Evans told the news outlets that no arrests had been made.

If you share your Netflix password with others, the streaming service will be cracking down on it beginning early next year.

Netflix unveiled how they plan to do just that Tuesday during its earnings report, the Associated Press reported.

In March, CNN reported that the company began testing two features, "extra member" and "profile transfer," with its customers in Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru.

The "profile transfer" allows viewers to transfer their current profile to a new account, the Associated Press reported.

The company launched the "profile transfer" on Monday in the U.S.

How it'll work is you'll hover over your profile icon in the dropdown menu on the homepage, select “Transfer Profile," then continue following the instructions, the company said on its website.

“We’ve landed on a thoughtful approach to monetize account sharing, and we’ll begin rolling this out more broadly starting in early 2023,” the company said in a letter to shareholders, USA Today reported. “After listening to consumer feedback, we are going to offer the ability for borrowers to transfer their Netflix profile into their own account, and for sharers to manage their devices more easily and to create subaccounts (“extra member”) if they want to pay for family or friends.”

According to CNN, a fee to add the “extra member” option has not been announced, but in Costa Rica, consumers paid $3.

The company also announced during Tuesday's meeting that it gained 2.4 million subscribers in its third quarter, which is a bounce back after it lost 1.2 million customers during the first half of 2022, the Associated Press reported.

The news outlet reported that Netflix hopes they'll add 4.5 million subscribers during the October-December period.

After two highway shootings in about a week, Cincinnati police have confirmed a third highway shooting in our area last week.A witness who talked with us said it all happened incredibly close to him on southbound I-75.Investigators said the shooting happened last Monday. They said witnesses called 911 and a victim showed up to the hospital."I hear seven or eight more pops, look in my rearview mirror and see two cars pretty much shooting at each other," a witness said.He said he found himself caught in the middle of a shootout on I-75 on Nov. 29.He doesn't want to be identified."With the crime that's going on right now. I don't feel safe," he said.He told us while he drove southbound at about 5 p.m., two cars pulled up next to a car in the middle lane and started firing. This was about two exits north of Ezzard Charles Drive, according to the witness."I didn't know if I was going to get hit by a stray bullet or a ricochet or something like that," he said.Cincinnati police said the victim was shot in the hand and pulled off at 7th Street. It's another example of highway violence. The organization, Everytown for Gun Safety, said nationally, there have been more than 800 road rage incidents involving a gun this year.It says that is up from 701 in 2020.Another shooting on I-75 in Lockland was caught on camera on Nov. 30."I need help right now. I need help," the victim said in a 911 call. He said he did not know who shot him.Cincinnati police are piecing together a shooting on northbound I-71 at Fort Washington Way from Tuesday evening.Investigators said a 42-year-old man was hit in the stomach, drove himself to Christ Hospital and was transferred to UC Medical Center. They initially said he was in critical condition, but updated his status to stable, as of Wednesday. The victim's fiancee talked with us on Tuesday night, sharing his call for help."Just that he was shot and I told him to go to UC," Billie Ray said. Now, witnesses are unnerved knowing that gunfire could come from just one lane over at any moment."I'm a little bit more on edge when I drive around that area and unfortunately, that's probably how it's going to be from now on," the witness said.Cincinnati police said they are talking with witnesses and hope to speak with the victim in the Fort Washington Way shooting soon. They have not released any information about what led up to that shooting, but said it appears the victim was targeted.Police have not elaborated on how they've come to that conclusion and a spokeswoman has since backed away from calling the incident road rage at this point.

After two highway shootings in about a week, Cincinnati police have confirmed a third highway shooting in our area last week.

A witness who talked with us said it all happened incredibly close to him on southbound I-75.

Investigators said the shooting happened last Monday.

They said witnesses called 911 and a victim showed up to the hospital.

"I hear seven or eight more pops, look in my rearview mirror and see two cars pretty much shooting at each other," a witness said.

He said he found himself caught in the middle of a shootout on I-75 on Nov. 29.

He doesn't want to be identified.

"With the crime that's going on right now. I don't feel safe," he said.

He told us while he drove southbound at about 5 p.m., two cars pulled up next to a car in the middle lane and started firing.

This was about two exits north of Ezzard Charles Drive, according to the witness.

"I didn't know if I was going to get hit by a stray bullet or a ricochet or something like that," he said.

Cincinnati police said the victim was shot in the hand and pulled off at 7th Street.

It's another example of highway violence.

The organization, Everytown for Gun Safety, said nationally, there have been more than 800 road rage incidents involving a gun this year.

It says that is up from 701 in 2020.

Another shooting on I-75 in Lockland was caught on camera on Nov. 30.

"I need help right now. I need help," the victim said in a 911 call.

He said he did not know who shot him.

Cincinnati police are piecing together a shooting on northbound I-71 at Fort Washington Way from Tuesday evening.

Investigators said a 42-year-old man was hit in the stomach, drove himself to Christ Hospital and was transferred to UC Medical Center.

They initially said he was in critical condition, but updated his status to stable, as of Wednesday.

The victim's fiancee talked with us on Tuesday night, sharing his call for help.

"Just that he was shot and I told him to go to UC," Billie Ray said.

Now, witnesses are unnerved knowing that gunfire could come from just one lane over at any moment.

"I'm a little bit more on edge when I drive around that area and unfortunately, that's probably how it's going to be from now on," the witness said.

Cincinnati police said they are talking with witnesses and hope to speak with the victim in the Fort Washington Way shooting soon.

They have not released any information about what led up to that shooting, but said it appears the victim was targeted.

Police have not elaborated on how they've come to that conclusion and a spokeswoman has since backed away from calling the incident road rage at this point.

A Middletown family's Disney vacation turns into heartbreak as their 12-year-old son ends up in the ICU on a ventilator with the flu. They've been there since earlier this month and don't think they'll be able to come home until at least Thanksgiving."I never imagined us being here this long or even being in the ICU," mother, Vanessa Baker, said.Baker and her family left Middletown and drove to Florida on Oct. 3 to make magical memories at Disney World. But after a day at the park and another in the Fun Zone, she said her son, Kameron Miller, 12, had a sore throat and a cough."He was so excited to come. He talked about it for weeks. We all kind of needed a break with the whole last year. How it's been, like, stressful," Baker said. She said he has autism and asthma.Baker took her son to the emergency room and she said things got worse."After the breathing treatment is really whenever he was like, I can't breathe. He was, like, wanting shots. He wanted them to give him something," she said.Baker said eventually her son was intubated and taken to Nemours Children's Hospital in Orlando where they've been since. She said doctors are considering he may have MIS-C, multisystem inflammatory syndrome, which is a condition linked to COVID-19.Baker said her son has COVID-19 antibodies, but tests negative now.She believes he may have had an asymptomatic case at some point in the past year.Baker told WLWT her son also has the flu and acute respiratory distress syndrome."There's no definite time limit on how long we're going to be here and there's, no, like idea of how he'll go home," she said. For now, she stays by her son's side as he remains on a ventilator. She said she misses hearing him talk and seeing his smile. It's been three weeks since he has been able to talk, according to Baker."He's fun and energetic. He tries to make friends," she said. She hopes they soon make those Disney World memories together."There's hard times and then there's good times. I just know that he's in the best place that he can be," Baker said.Kameron's mother said he had only turned 12 just before their trip, so he wasn't vaccinated. She said he has been through a lot so far and had a collapsed lung last week. They're hoping to wean him off of so much medication and the ventilator in the coming days. She said Kameron's siblings are staying with his grandmother. His grandmother told us both children miss their parents and are thinking of their brother.Baker said they hope to be home by Thanksgiving and neither parent is working as they stay at the hospital. The family has started a GoFundMe page to help with expenses: https://www.gofundme.com/f/xh7jv-medical-and-expenses

Shots were fired in broad daylight in College Hill on Sunday, just steps away from Cincinnati Police District 5.Investigators said two men are in custody and no one was hit by gunfire. But this is the latest shooting this weekend, bringing the number to four in 24 hours. It just adds to the frustration being felt in the community.Cincinnati police said they're putting a comprehensive plan to work and neighbors are helping. We also talked with a man who saw the aftermath of the shooting in College Hill and he said he could not believe what happened."I am glad that we didn't get here a few minutes earlier," Andrew Vogel said.Vogel came for Chinese food, but arrived to find broken glass, a gun in the street and yellow crime tape marking off the scene of a shootout near Hamilton and Cedar Avenues in College Hill."I know that the lady that runs the restaurant that we were in is freaked out," Vogel said.Cincinnati police found two men fighting on the ground after hearing gunshots between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday, just steps from the offices of District 5.No one was hit by gunfire, but police recovered drug paraphernalia and the gun, and also spotted a phone and smoke shop with a shattered window. Both men are now in custody, according to police on the scene. This follows three shootings on Saturday night. The first, in Over-The-Rhine, at about 7:18 p.m. in the 200 block of W. McMicken Avenue where police said a man in his 40s was hit.CPD said a second shooting happened at 7:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of Kinney Avenue in Evanston.Police found a 43-year-old man had been shot and was driven to the hospital in a car.The third shooting happened about two hours after that in Oakley outside Urban Air Adventure Park.Cincinnati police said three people were shot and were taken to the hospital in a car. We're told none of the victims have died.Cincinnati police said they're tackling the violence with a comprehensive plan."We've really been maximizing our use of technology, our use of intelligence, have been very intentional about how we deploy," Lt. Col. Mike John told WLWT in an interview last week. But people are shaken after a turbulent weekend."The gun, right over my shoulder, and that's scary. That's probably as close as I've ever been to a gun," Vogel said.By our count, we now have at least 348 shootings in the city.Police said neighbors are stepping up and calling to report these incidents. They said they want to be part of the solution.Cincinnati police ask anyone with information about the recent violence in the city to call CrimeStoppers at 513-352-3040.
The RV industry has seen a significant increase in rentals and sales over the summer. One company, RVshare, reported more than a 1,000% increase in rentals.

Now, the trend seems to be moving beyond just a summer vacation alternative. Some are turning to it as a new way to home-school and work during this pandemic.

Some families are turning these RVs into their primary or secondary homes.

"I think it is difficult for families to be cooped up," said Julie Partridge.

Partridge was already considering making the switch to RV life before the pandemic, but after five months of social distancing and quarantining in her home, she decided to finally do it.

She sold the family home and hit the road to live, home-school her kids and work from an RV.

"Obviously our camper is much smaller than our house,” said Partridge. “Substantially smaller, but you have this vast open world available to you. You feel less cooped up in this camper than you do in this 3,000 square foot house."

She also feels the move to full-time RV life this fall will also give her kids a unique educational opportunity.

"We really want to see the national parks,” said Partridge. “I want my kids to do the park ranger program. I want to use that as their science and social studies curriculum from the road. So, we are really excited about those parts."

The Partridge family is just one of many either committing to or newly considering RV life in the fall, according to a survey done by the RV rental company RVshare.

"We have, from our survey, seen that over 30% of people are considering homeschooling from the road and over 40% of people are considering working from the road and that is something that is new to the industry," RVshare Jon Gray.

"You have school not opening on time, you have a lot of employers turning to work from anywhere models for the extended future and those things have made it to where RVs are appealing deep into the fall," said Gray.

The pandemic has changed so much in our lives. Many people are looking to get away from the uncertainty and continued concern with it. This seems to be one way for some to do that.

"It is saving us money, it is teaching them lessons, it has really been kind of refreshing," said Partridge.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ind. — The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal crash that killed a woman Friday afternoon

Just after 2 p.m. on May 28, Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a report of a fatal crash on State Road 1 near Old State Road 1 in Southgate.

Authorities said a husband and wife, Ronald and Vanessa Bailey, of Eaton Ohio, were traveling southbound on State Road 1 in separate vehicles. At the time the couple reached a left-hand curve at the top of a hill, a third vehicle, a 2015 Nissan Rogue travelled left of center and struck the Mazda 6 being driven by Vanessa Bailey head-on.

After being struck, the Mazda 6 went off the road and down a grassy embankment. The Franklin County Coroner pronounced 56-year-old Vanessa Bailey dead at the scene.

The male driver of the 2015 Nissan Rogue was transported to a Cincinnati-area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He has not been charged at this time.

According to the news release put out by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, the driver said he possibly fell asleep while driving.

Ronald Bailey was treated by emergency crews at the scene.

The investigation is still ongoing.
