Firefighters in Northbridge, Massachusetts, battled a multi-alarm blaze that destroyed a historic home constructed in the 1800s. The fire broke out before 4 p.m. Friday in the home on Lindwood Avenue in Northbridge. Someone passing by the historic home built by the owners of the town's mill back in the 1800s spotted flames coming from the building and called 911. Video from the scene showed flames shooting from the top floors of the Victorian-style home.Neighbors told WCVB the home was once a restaurant and bed &amp; breakfast. One firefighter was injured when a piece of the ceiling collapsed, injuring their shoulder. Officials said the house was a total loss. The cause of the fire was under investigation.

<p>HINGHAM, Mass. — A young boy's heroic actions saved his nanny and a painter from a massive house fire in Massachusetts.</p>
<p>Officials say the child noticed the flames and then alerted the nanny and a painter to get out of the house, NBC Boston reported.</p>
<p>"We're extremely lucky that the painter didn't die and the child and the nanny," Hingham Fire Chief Steve Murphy said to ABC affiliate WCVB.</p>
<p>According to reports, all that's left of the home is its chimney.</p>
<p>Neighbors told the news outlets that the family just moved in.</p>
<p>"They just did all the floors. They literally just moved in. Really nice young couple. Everything they have is gone," neighbor Chris Moran told WCVB.</p>
<p>Officials say the home is valued at around $3 million, Mass Live reported.</p>
<p>According to media reports, more than 120 firefighters responded to the 4-alarm fire on Monday.</p>
<p>No injuries were reported, WCVB reported.</p>
<p>The cause of the fire is under investigation.</p>

THE COUPLE. YEAH. HEY, GOOD EVENING TO YOU, KRISTIN. ANDREW AND THOSE FAMILY MEMBERS ARE TELLING ME THAT THEY JUST PLAN TO KEEP THE LEGACY THAT CHARMAINE AND LARRY ANDERSON BUILT IN THIS BELTZHOOVER HOME. A LIVE FOREVER. LOSING BOTH THEIR MATRIARCH AND PATRIARCH IN THE PLACE. THE WHOLE FAMILY CALLED HOME AS DEVASTATING FLAMES TORE THROUGH ITS WALLS EARLY THIS MORNING. THEY’LL BE GREATLY, GREATLY, GREATLY MISSED. MY HEART IS BROKE. LANIECE ANDERSON IS ONE OF THREE CHILDREN BELONGING TO 76 YEAR OLD LARRY AND 74 YEAR OLD CHARMAINE ANDERSON, WHO CALLED THIS BELTZHOOVER HOUSE HOME SINCE 1972. THEY DIED TOGETHER 57 YEARS, ONE WOULDN’T HAVE BEEN WITHOUT THE OTHER. IT WAS AROUND 540 THIS MORNING. KRISTA WASHINGTON WAS CALLED BY NEIGHBORS TO TELL HIM FLAMES WERE ENGULFING HIS GRANDPARENTS. CEDAR HURST STREET HOME. FIREFIGHTERS SAY THEY GOT TO THE HOUSE WITHIN FOUR MINUTES, BUT NEITHER LARRY OR CHARMAINE SURVIVED. FOR THEM TO GO OUT TOGETHER, WE COULDN’T HAD IT NO OTHER WAY, HONESTLY. NOW, AFTER REMEMBERING THEIR LEGACY AND THE PERFECT NOTES THEY HIT WHEN IT CAME TO LOVE AND FAMILY, MY GRANDFATHER PLAYED THE GUITAR ALL MY LIFE, PLAYED THE BASS, THE PIANO. MY GRANDMOTHER PLAYED THE BASS. ALSO. SO SHE WAS A SINGER. HE HAD A GROUP FOR YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS. THEY TOURED AROUND. THEY LOVED HER FAMILY. THEY LOVED HER COMMUNITY. YOU KNOW, THIS WAS ALWAYS A HOUSE THAT ANYBODY COULD PULL UP TO AND GET LOVE BECAUSE THEY ALWAYS GAVE THEIR LOVE TO EVERYBODY IN THE COMMUNITY. IT’S A LEGACY THEY LEFT A LEGACY THAT I’M PROUD OF. I’M PROUD TO CARRY ON A LEGACY OF LOVE, FAMILY AND MUSIC. IT HELPS TO KNOW THAT THEY’RE TOGETHER FOR SURE. SO WE’LL GET THROUGH THIS. WE HAVE COMMUNITY, WE HAVE FAMILY AND FRIENDS. AND SO WE’LL MAKE IT HAPPEN. AND AND THE FAMILY HAS BEEN OUTSIDE ALL DAY. I HEAR THEM REMINISCING, SHARING SOME STORIES. WE’RE BACK HERE LIVE AT THE THE NOW CHARRED HOUSE. I SHOULD SAY. YOU COULD SEE THAT HEAVY DAMAGE REALLY KIND OF ON THAT SECOND FLOOR. IT’S UNCLEAR IF THE HOME IS REPAIRABLE AT THIS POINT. WE DO KNOW THAT FROM PUBLIC SAFETY THAT INVESTIGATORS ARE STILL TRYING TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE. BUT IT DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE SUSPICIOUS. AND ONE LAST THING I WANT TO LEAVE YOU WITH IS THAT TOMORROW WOULD HAVE BEEN LARRY ANDERSON’S 77TH BIRTHDAY. LIVE FROM PITTSBURGH’S BELTZHOO

A man and woman died in a house fire in Pittsburgh's Beltzhoover neighborhood early Monday morning.Firefighters responded just before 5:40 a.m. to the 400 block of Cedarhurst Street. The first crews arrived within four minutes. The family said the victims are 74-year-old Charmaine Anderson and 76-year-old Larry Anderson. Larry would've celebrated his 77th birthday on Tuesday. "For them to go out together, we couldn't have had it another way," said Christo Washington, the oldest grandson. Washington described his grandparent's home as the music house, adding that many of his family members share the same passion for music as Charmaine and Larry did."You hear the name Anderson, you're going to know this is the music house. All of us, top to bottom, sing, dance, music, all of it. We got it from this house," Washington said. "My grandfather played the guitar, played the bass, the piano (and) my grandmother played the bass also, she was a singer. They had a group for years and years and years, they toured around."One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Another later died at the hospital, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety."They died together, 57 years. One wouldn't have been without the other," said Lenise Anderson, the victims' oldest daughter. "It helps to know they're together. They'll be greatly, greatly, greatly missed. But they're happy, and they're together – that's all that matters."

He then noticed a neighbor and her two kids trapped on the second floor and decided to use his mattress to help get them to safety."I put my mattress over there in the back and I put it out of the window, and I told them to jump on the mattress," Saintjean said. "But they refused (at first). I tell them: 'Come on, come on. The fire is coming too close to us.' And when I do that, they just drop the kids."Saintjean caught the children down below and then their mother was able to jump to safety."Very heroic. Quick thinking to realize there was a mattress," said BFD spokesperson Brian Alkins. "Neighbors helping neighbors makes our job a lot easier."Alkins said the duplex fire was knocked down within 30 minutes. Two firefighters were transported to an area hospital to be treated for minor injuries and are doing OK, according to Alkins. In all, five adults and four children were displaced by the fire, which caused an estimated $1 million worth of damages. The Red Cross of Massachusetts is helping those displaced residents find housing. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

It's the call no one wants to make.“All I heard was kids yelling, ‘Mom!’ And I thought maybe it was kids yelling for their mother,” Marisa Anderson, a Wisconsin 911 dispatcher, said. But those were Anderson's kids, yelling for her. Her house was on fire. “I just remember looking at my partner and saying, ‘That's my house.' They had me leave right away,” Anderson recalled. "It didn't really hit me until I was about halfway down and I saw the black smoke off in the sky. That's when I broke down." Anderson's son — Landon — jumped into action after waking to the sound of glass breaking. He grabbed his sister and her friend from the family camper before waiting for first responders at the mailbox. “Had they been up in her room, I don't know that they would've been able to make it out,” Anderson said. “Because the hallway and everything was filled with smoke." Forestville Fire Chief Richard Olson said, “That's about ten loads of relief right off the bat that we don't have to find a victim.”The Anderson family is safe right now — but their beloved pets didn't make it. “ has taken it really hard because he feels he could've gone back in to get the pets out,” Anderson said. “My pets were like my children and without them I’m pretty lost right now."Anderson said her family will have to start from scratch after losing everything apart from some pictures and the clothes on their backs. They started a GoFundMe to ask for help rebuilding their lives.Watch the video above for more on this story.

Firefighters who put out the blaze at a home in Virginia recently got to reunite with a four-legged family member they were able to save from the fire.Dana Glenn and Marty Dickens told WDBJ that the firefighters are heroes for saving their dog Gracie, who means so much to them. "She's been a part of our lives for over five years. She's helped me get over the death of just about all my family," Glenn said. When Dickens and an electrician first noticed smoke coming from upstairs on May 30, everyone was able to run outside except for Gracie, even after the couple tried repeatedly to save her. As Roanoke fire crews arrived, the word got out to search and save Gracie.Lt. Chris White was the one who located Gracie and handed the 90-lb dog to another firefighter.Crews treated Gracie and transported her in an ambulance to a vet to save her life. Now that Gracie is on the mend, her family took her to meet her rescuers.Watch the video above to see their reunion."It means a lot for us to, you know, just do our jobs and have them come back and show their appreciation," White said. Glenn and Dickens also made a $1,000 donation to the Roanoke Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in honor of the firefighters.

When a Texas family's house burned down on New Year's Eve, one of their family's beloved pets saved their daughter's life at the cost of its own.Jennifer Oleniczak said she heard a loud banging on her door and looked outside to see her neighbor yelling that her house was on fire. When she turned and looked out the door, her deck and the stairs were completely on fire. After yelling for her daughter and husband to get out, she grabbed her Shih Tzus and six puppies."And I started to run with them outside, but I tripped and so I broke my fall. And I started throwing the puppies out onto the patio and my husband was already off the deck so he was grabbing the puppies and throwing them off," Jennifer Oleniczak said. With her husband and neighbors helping her up and into the street, her 15-year-old daughter Jaylee started screaming, "Ollie, Ollie woke me up!""She said 'yes, that's how I heard the door.' She said, 'Because Ollie came into the room. Where is Ollie?' So we couldn't find him," Jennifer Oleniczak said. The next day, the family searched for their pitbull named Ollie. They checked the burned house, posted all over social media and checked local shelters but found nothing. Until Jan. 9."And my husband went in and he found him right at my daughter's bedside. At the foot of her bed, like he had collapsed from the smoke inhalation. And I just want to give him a big hug you know, because had he not gone in there, Jaylee would have died," Jennifer Oleniczak said.Watch the video above for the full story.

Two brothers in Massachusetts are being credited for saving a husband and wife, as well as the couple's historic home, from a house fire in Andover during this weekend's powerful nor'easter.Graham Dalton, 17, was driving home at about 3 p.m. Saturday with his 14-year-old brother, Ian, after the two spent hours shoveling snow for neighbors when they spotted what appeared to be flames leaping from a third-story window of a home."I pulled alongside the house and I was like: 'Hey, go knock on their door. Make sure everything is OK,'" Graham Dalton said."I was like: 'Hey, is there supposed to be a fire in the attic.' He was like: 'No.' And I was like: 'Alright, well, there is,'" Ian Dalton said.Graham called 911 while Ian helped get the couple, Pat and Fran O'Neil, out of the house as the second floor was rapidly filling up with smoke."We had no idea," Pat O'Neil said. "We were sitting down in the dining area playing Scrabble, and we had a fire in the fireplace."Andover firefighters were quickly able to contain the fire in the 130-year-old home, which appears to have started in a third-floor window fan."Fifteen minutes, you know, it's all the difference in the house being gone or saved — and they saved it," Fran O'Neil said."You've just got to go. It's not something you learn. It's not something you're taught, not something you train for, certainly, and you just gotta go," Graham Dalton said.On top of saving the O'Neils and their house, the Dalton brothers stayed with the couple to help them start cleaning up."They're just really nice young men and they did the right thing," Pat O'Neil said."That they went in and they acted appropriately and as a team, I'm very proud of that," said Julie Dalton, the boys' mother. "They were cool under pressure.""We have our battles, but sometimes we can be a great team," Graham Dalton said of his brother.Andover Fire Chief Michael Mansfield said seconds do count in a fire, especially when they break out in older homes. A Massachusetts man who lost his wife and two young children in a fire 20 years ago is being hailed as a hero after rescuing a neighbor from her burning home.Mark Collum said he heard a woman screaming for help at about 5 a.m. Sunday. He ran outside and noticed his neighbor's house was on fire, which prompted him to call 911."I heard 'Fire! Fire!' I just threw my clothes on and just, out of reaction, saw her in the kitchen milling around," Collum said. "There were flames billowing out the back, smoke filling up the kitchen."He then ran into the home and was able to get his neighbor, Deb Shanahan, out of the fire. Shanahan was hurt, but her injuries are not believed to be serious."I just grabbed her and just took her out," Collum said. "I had a little smoke in my lungs, same with her, so we just kind of took her outside and things worked out well. Thank God."In January 2001, Collum's wife, Lisa, and their two daughters, 4-year-old Lindsay and 5-month-old Carly, died after a fire ripped through their Ipswich home.Lisa Collum and Lindsay Collum were trapped on the third floor of the house by flames. Lisa Collum dropped Carly Collum out of a third-floor window in an attempt to save her daughter's life. The infant was flown to New England Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.Several other people in the house, including relatives of the Collum family, were able to escape the fire without serious injury.Mark Collum, who is a commercial fisherman, was not home at the time of the fire."It still resonates in me. But I'm glad things worked out today," he said. "I'm just glad I was here and did the right thing. That's all. Hopefully, Deb's alright and everything worked out well today, so I'm kind of glad."Fire official said Shanahan will recover from her injuries. The cause of the fire in Shanahan's home remains under investigation.Watch the video above for the full story.

<p>A Massachusetts man who lost his wife and two young children in a fire 20 years ago is being hailed as a hero after rescuing a neighbor from her burning home.</p>
<p>Mark Collum said he heard a woman screaming for help at about 5 a.m. Sunday. He ran outside and noticed his neighbor's house was on fire, which prompted him to call 911.</p>
<p>"I heard 'Fire! Fire!' I just threw my clothes on and just, out of reaction, saw her in the kitchen milling around," Collum said. "There were flames billowing out the back, smoke filling up the kitchen."</p>
<p>He then ran into the home and was able to get his neighbor, Deb Shanahan, out of the fire. Shanahan was hurt, but her injuries are not believed to be serious.</p>
<p>"I just grabbed her and just took her out," Collum said. "I had a little smoke in my lungs, same with her, so we just kind of took her outside and things worked out well. Thank God."</p>
<p>In January 2001, Collum's wife, Lisa, and their two daughters, 4-year-old Lindsay and 5-month-old Carly, died after a fire ripped through their Ipswich home.</p>
<p>Lisa Collum and Lindsay Collum were trapped on the third floor of the house by flames. Lisa Collum dropped Carly Collum out of a third-floor window in an attempt to save her daughter's life. The infant was flown to New England Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.</p>

<p>Several other people in the house, including relatives of the Collum family, were able to escape the fire without serious injury.</p>
<p>Mark Collum, who is a commercial fisherman, was not home at the time of the fire.</p>
<p>"It still resonates in me. But I'm glad things worked out today," he said. "I'm just glad I was here and did the right thing. That's all. Hopefully, Deb's alright and everything worked out well today, so I'm kind of glad."</p>
<p>Fire official said Shanahan will recover from her injuries.</p>
<p>The cause of the fire in Shanahan's home remains under investigation.</p>

<p>Firefighters found the woman hiding in a closet on the second floor of the house, and they were able to transport her to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. She later died of her injuries.</p>
<p>Cincinnati Fire Department Chief Greg Potter said the tight quarters inside the home made it difficult to rescue her.</p>
<p>“Just sometimes, it’s just with these tight houses … with the stories and all that kind of stuff, it’s just difficult trying to get someone down from the second floor," Potter said. </p>
<p>A 13-year-old boy who made it out of the house before fire crews arrived was transported to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center for smoke inhalation.</p>
<p>One firefighter also sustained minor injuries and was taken to Good Samaritan hospital.</p>
<p>The cause of the fire is under investigation.</p>
