There have been at least three deadly hit-and-run crashes involving pedestrians since late July in Cincinnati. So far, no arrests have been made and police have not publicly identified suspect vehicles they are searching for.Two pedestrians hurt in separate crashes died Sunday.Richard Tavares, 55, was hit along Reading Road in Avondale nearly three weeks ago.Sarah Sweeney, 35, was hit along with her father crossing Hamilton Avenue in Northside late July.Tavares and Sweeney both died Sunday. The tragedies come as community members and city leaders push for pedestrian safety enhancements like lighting, speed bumps and speed cushions. At Monday evening's Clifton Town Meeting, board members voted to submit two areas to the city for pedestrian safety improvements. Board members said the city requested each community council come up with its top two priorities.Clifton's group narrowed down its priorities by surveying community members. More than 200 people responded."We were able to get rank order of where everybody saw the priorities in this area," said Mary Pat Lienhart, co-Chair, of the Transportation and Safety Committee.Thirty-four percent of respondents put Clifton Avenue near McAlpin and Woolper avenues as priority number one, Lienhart said. Another 23% listed Clifton Avenue near Ludlow Avenue. Both areas will be submitted to the city for approval."We do not want to be reacting to the death of anybody," said Gerald Checco, president of the Clifton Town Meeting. "The entire city is seemingly under assault by people that have decided not to respect laws."Checco learned late Monday about one of the pedestrian deaths that occurred over the weekend. The victim was the daughter of a dear friend."It's obviously extremely sad. I don't know how to react to it," he said. "I am really shocked and dismayed that Sarah passed away... In that era of sadness we are hopeful that things will improve."Mayor Aftab Pureval proposed $1 million in funding for pedestrian safety shortly after taking office. City council approved the funding unanimously. A spokeswoman tells WLWT the plan is to complete designs for the projects this fall and begin construction in the spring.

A 27-year-old man charged for fatally hitting "Gone Girl" actress Lisa Banes last year with an electric moped and then leaving the scene pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Wednesday, prosecutors say.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said Brian Boyd pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter and leaving the scene of an incident without reporting.

Prosecutors said he is expected to be sentenced on November 30, as he faces one to three years in prison.

“Brian Boyd drove recklessly with no regard for pedestrians, fatally striking a beloved actress and New Yorker before speeding off to avoid accountability,” said Bragg in a news release. “Lisa Banes will be remembered for her contributions to the rich fabric of New York City through her roles on screen and on Broadway. I offer her friends, family, and the many who loved her during her decades-long career my deepest condolences.”

On June 4, 2021, Banes was crossing a street in New York City when Boyd drove through a red light at the intersection and hit her with a moped he was operating.

Prosecutors said Boyd did not have a driver’s license and was riding an unregistered electric moped without a license plate.

Banes was hospitalized but succumbed to her injuries on July 14, 2021. She was 65.

Prosecutors said Boyd, who fled the scene, was later arrested on August 5, 2021.

According to the Associated Press, Banes' career included appearances in the 1988 movie “Cocktail" and on TV shows, including “Nashville,” “Madam Secretary,” “Masters of Sex,” and “NCIS.”

Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Dominic Alexandre, 23, said he prayed before his shift on Thursday, which is why he believes he is still alive after a truck nearly hit him while he was helping a driver on the side of I-95. “It’s a miracle,” Alexandre said. “God's always watching us.”The shocking video was captured the moment a gray truck comes barreling towards Alexandre and the female driver he was helping with a flat tire on I-95 in Lake Worth, Florida.“I am very fortunate and very lucky out of the countless troopers that I know who were not so lucky,” Alexandre said. “They died. They got seriously hurt, injured, or career-ending events.”Sister station WPBF reports a hit-and-run driver in a sedan led to this accident. "There was an unknown sedan that collided with the rear end of the white pickup truck which swerved into the gray pickup truck and the gray pickup truck and the white pickup truck swerve towards my direction and the female motorist direction," Alexandre said. The video shows the moment the trooper turns his head seconds before the truck collides with the SUV. "I was able to hear the screeching sound of the pickup truck and glance to my left and I had a split-second decision to save my life or get hit so I ran to the right immediately as fast as I can," Alexandre said. The woman who the trooper was assisting suffered injuries to her legs but is expected to survive."Assisting her with a flat tire would’ve called the road ranger to help her change the flat tire and I didn’t know that day would be a pivotal moment in my life," Alexandre said. But the trooper said after the near-death experience, other drivers still weren’t following the move over law which requires drivers to either move over a lane for emergency vehicles or slow down to 20 mph less than the posted speed limit. "Even after the situation happened there were still vehicles passing the speed limit or even faster than the speed limit right next to where the situation happened," Alexandre said.
