GREENVILLE, S.C. —

The biological family of a 3-year-old girl is speaking out after authorities say the toddler was killed by her adoptive parents earlier this month.

"Nobody in my family is holding up well," said Michelle Urps, who is Victoria Smith's great-aunt and family spokesperson. "The emotions in this family are very raw."

Officials said 3-year-old Victoria was killed by child abuse from her adoptive parents.

"There were big things ahead for that little girl," Urps said. "Honestly and truly if she had been allowed to live the rest of her life she would have conquered the world."

Urps said Victoria's mother lost custody of her and she got adopted by Ariel and Jerry Robinson. On Jan. 19, the Robinson's were charged with homicide by child abuse involving Victoria.

Sister station WYFF confirmed Tuesday that Victoria's remains are at the Greenville County Coroner's Office. An autopsy has been completed. The coroner said she died from a series of blunt force injuries.

"So, give her to us," Urps said. "Let us give her a proper funeral and say goodbye one last time."

When asked about this, the South Carolina Department of Social Services released the same statement it did last week saying: "The South Carolina Department of Social Services is aware of allegations and the arrests made and is investigating along with law enforcement."

Urps said the coroner's office told her a family court judge will decide where Smith's body goes next.

"We love you and we're so sorry this happened to you, but I promise you we are not resting until it's right," said Urps.

A South Carolina animal shelter hosted a canine wedding Thursday to support donations for the new Have a Heart Heartworm Treatment Fund and raise awareness to adopt shelter dogs.

Greenville County Animal Care in South Carolina hosted a livestream of the ceremony for Sassy and Spero.

The event was planned by Wedding Festivals and Upstate Bridal Association, according to the shelter.

Sassy and Spero have been together since Sassy started her heartworm treatment, according to the shelter.

"Every heartworm positive dog will have their treatment covered in full, making it easier than ever to adopt a heartworm positive dog," the shelter posted on Facebook.
