A federal court has put a temporary hold on the government's order for Juul to stop selling its electronic cigarettes.

Juul filed the emergency motion so it can appeal the sales ban from the Food and Drug Administration. The U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington granted the request later Friday. A day earlier, the FDA said Juul must stop selling its vaping device and its cartridges. The agency said Juul didn't give it enough information to evaluate the potential health risks of its e-cigarettes.

In its court filing, the company disagreed, saying it provided enough.

To stay on the market, companies must show that their e-cigarettes benefit public health. In practice, that means proving that adult smokers who use them are likely to quit or reduce their smoking, while teens are unlikely to get hooked on them.

Delta-8 THC: What is it and why is it raising concerns?

Around the country, some parents are growing concerned over a product occasionally dubbed weed light or diet weed. Experts say delta-8 THC is in a legal gray area and can cause negative health effects, sister station WGAL investigated. Delta-8 THC products are being sold online and in stores in different forms. "It can come in Rice Krispies treats, gummies, candies, a whole litany of edibles," said Michael Reisinger, who runs American Shaman in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.Reisinger said his customers, who must be 21 or older, are using it for things like sleep, relaxation and pain relief."The same thing that they’re looking and turning to CBD for, delta-8 can help with the same relief," he said.Delta-8 THC is a psychoactive substance found in very low levels in the hemp plant. But CBD can be synthesized into high levels of delta-8 and added to products.The 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp and hemp products as long as they have less than 0.3% of delta-9 THC, the compound in marijuana that causes a high. But the bill doesn't address delta-8."It lives in that gray area," attorney Bill Roark said.Roark, who teaches cannabis law and regulation, said people may believe delta-8 is legal because it is derived from hemp. "I don't think anyone can say that the intent of the Farm Bill was to find another way to create a legalized psychoactive drug," he said.The Food and Drug Administration recently issued a warning that some delta-8 THC products can have serious health risks. It said there have been adverse event reports in the last year involving 22 patients. They experienced vomiting, hallucinations and other issues."You don't know what you're getting. You're getting an adulterated hemp material and so it really needs to be buyer beware," said Dr. Kent Vrana, a pharmacologist with the Penn State College of Medicine.When Reisinger was asked whether people are using delta-8 THC to get high, he said, "Not in our experience. I can't say for every single person. Nine times out of 10, there's not a psychoactive element that's hit. While there's the potential, we want to be more safe than sorry."Nineteen states have regulated, restricted or banned the sale of delta-8 THC products, which include Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Kentucky, Idaho, Iowa, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, New York, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Texas, Utah, Vermont, and Washington.Watch the video above for more on this story.

Sun Valley Foods is recalling ready-to-eat beef and chicken taquitos and chimichangas products containing diced green chilies due to concerns that the products may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically hard plastic.

The hard plastic may pose a choking hazard or cause damage to teeth or gums.

The frozen RTE meat and poultry taquitos and chimichangas items were produced by Ajinomoto Foods North America, Inc., and are sold under brand names including Great Value, Casa Mamita and José Olé.

The FDA said the following products, sold nationwide, were recalled:

• 19.2-oz. carton containing 16 pieces labeled as “Great Value Flour Chicken Taquitos Tortillas Stuffed with All White Chicken Meat & Monterey Jack Cheese” with a best if used by date of “11 JUL 2021” and “P5590” printed on the side panel.
• 20-oz carton containing 20 pieces labeled as “CASA MAMITA BEEF TAQUITOS ROLLED IN CORN TORTILLAS” with a best by date of “26 JUN 2021” and “EST 5590” printed on the side panel.
• 22.5-oz carton containing 15 pieces labeled as “CASA MAMITA CHICKEN AND CHEESE TAQUITOS ROLLED IN FLOUR TORTILLAS” with a best by date of “26 JUN 2021” and “P5590” printed on the side panel
• 15-oz. carton containing 15 taquitos labeled as “JOSÉ OLÉ TAQUITOS CHICKEN AND CHEESE POLLO Y QUESO IN FLOUR TORTILLAS” with a best by date of “08 JUL 2021” or “18 JUL 2021,” and “P5590” printed on the side panel.
• 20-oz. carton containing 20 taquitos labeled as “JOSÉ OLÉ TAQUITOS BEEF CARNE DE RES IN CORN TORTILLAS” with a best by date of “08 JUL 2021” and “EST 5590” printed on the side panel.
• 22.5-oz carton containing 15 taquitos labeled as “JOSÉ OLÉ TAQUITOS CHICKEN AND CHEESE POLLO Y QUESO IN FLOUR TORTILLAS” with a best by date of “09 JUL 2021,” “14 JUL 2021” or “17 JUL 2021” and “P5590” printed on the side panel.
• 55.5-oz carton containing 37 taquitos labeled as “JOSÉ OLÉ VALUE PACK TAQUITOS CHICKEN AND CHEESE POLLO Y QUESO IN FLOUR TORTILLAS” with a best if used by date of “15 JUL 2021” and “P5590” printed on the side panel.
• 60-oz. carton containing 60 taquitos labeled as “JOSÉ OLÉ TAQUITOS BEEF CARNE DE RES IN CORN TORTILLAS” with a best if used by date of “9 JUL 2021” or “10 JUL 2021,” and “EST 5590” printed on the side panel.
• 5-oz. individual plastic bag containing “JOSÉ OLÉ CHIMICHANGAS LOADED BEEF NACHO” with a best by date of “15 JUL 2021” and “EST. 17417” printed on the label.

The products bear the establishment number “EST 5590,” “P5590” or “EST. 17417” printed on the packaging above the expiration date.

Ajinomoto Foods North America, Inc. identified pieces of hard plastic in their production process and in a barrel of diced green chilies that was received from their ingredients supplier, Sun Valley Foods. Sun Valley Foods initiated a recall of the green chilies with the FDA.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a health care provider.

FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

Ivermectin has been called a wonder drug, and some people are wondering if it can, or should, be used to treat COVID-19. While misinformation flies online, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warn against using the drug.

The idea of using Ivermectin as a COVID-19 treatment started as a video emerged of a chairperson in the Japanese Medical Association saying he recommended doctors in Japan start using the drug to treat COVID-19.

Many posts online containing the video make it seem like the video was filmed in August, however it was filmed in February. Seven months later and Japan has not approved of Ivermectin to be used to treat COVID-19.

While it hasn't been approved to treat COVID-19, the Food and Drug Administration has approved Ivermectin to treat infections caused by parasites. COVID-19 however, is not an illness caused by parasites.

The CDC said since early July, Ivermectin prescription fills went up "24-fold" despite a warning from the organization that improper usage or dosage could cause serious health issues.

The CDC said one patient was hospitalized for nine days with hallucinations, confusion, rapid breathing and tremors after drinking one dose meant for cattle. Another patient five tablets of unknown strength for five days and was disoriented and had difficulty answering questions until they were hospitalized and taken off the drug.

Small sample studies have been performed to look at the efficacy of Ivermectin on COVID-19, but those studies haven't shown conclusive evidence of the drug's benefit for the pandemic.

"Maybe someday a larger study may show some benefit," Dr. Steve Feagins with Mercy Health said. "But so far there's really not in the, and there's more harm than, than benefit."

Clinical trials are underway in Florida, including studies to determine if Ivermectin is effective for high risk patients in preventing hospitalizations, but so far the FDA has not approved the drug to treat COVID-19 and the FDA and CDC warn against its use.

A Florida store posted a sign saying it's out of Ivermectin and isn't sure when it'll have any again. The calls asking for it have picked up in recent weeks.

"Questions that we knew weren't current customers, people requesting this specific product only," business owner Justin Horstmeyer said.

Ivermectin, given to horses and other livestock, can reduce the risk of intestinal parasites. But the product sold at feed stores is not for human consumption.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration points out that this product is designed and made specifically for livestock, horses and cows. And that if a person uses it, it could be dangerous.

In a tweet, the FDA wrote: "You are not a horse. You are not a cow. Seriously y'all. Stop it."

"People really need to talk to their doctor before they look to the internet to find some other kind of solution," Seminole County emergency manager Alan Harris said.

Harris has consistently urged people to get medical advice from the doctor they trust.

"There have been lots of studies that show that Ivermectin does not work on the virus. Give it up," Dr. Todd Husty said.

Seminole County's medical director says people should seek legitimate, tested solutions.

"We have things to use other than things that don't work like Ivermectin," Husty said.

The FDA website points out: "Never use medications intended for animals on yourself."

People have "required medical support and been hospitalized after self-medicating with Ivermectin intended for horses," the FDA wrote.

"The toxicity level of a product like this has not been screened, not been approved, could be deadly," Horstmeyer said.

Feed stores are being cautious before selling the product now, when they even have it, for the animal owners who legitimately need it.
