Firefighters in Northbridge, Massachusetts, battled a multi-alarm blaze that destroyed a historic home constructed in the 1800s. The fire broke out before 4 p.m. Friday in the home on Lindwood Avenue in Northbridge. Someone passing by the historic home built by the owners of the town's mill back in the 1800s spotted flames coming from the building and called 911. Video from the scene showed flames shooting from the top floors of the Victorian-style home.Neighbors told WCVB the home was once a restaurant and bed & breakfast. One firefighter was injured when a piece of the ceiling collapsed, injuring their shoulder. Officials said the house was a total loss. The cause of the fire was under investigation.

The severe weather threat Tuesday brought Kenton County emergency teams together for a training. “This is very timely training,” Kenton County Homeland Security and Emergency Management director Steve Hensley said. “We spend a great deal of time planning for events we hope never occur, but on occasion, unfortunately, we know that they do.”As the potential for severe weather loomed, agencies from across Kenton County and beyond came together to train including police, fire, environmental agencies and hospital representatives among others. The teams are preparing for disasters such as tornados, floods, chemical spills, terrorist activities and unforeseen problems.“That’s what this is today, bringing everyone together so the first time they meet is not in the event of a real disaster,” Hensley said. “These kinds of exercises help us practice those skills. So, when those unfortunate real-life situations happen, we can hit the ground running,” said Ft. Mitchell police Chief Andrew Schierberg.

RUIDOSO, NM — There’s a lot to love about the sleepy mountain town of Ruidoso, New Mexico, but life the last few years have been anything but simple for the service industry.

"After the pandemic hit, I mean, It was like, where did everybody go," said Chon Caswell, the general manager of two restaurants in town.

"Everything's short-term rentals, Airbnb. It's tough living for the backbone of this economy," he added.

"Just like everywhere in the United States, we're severely handicapped when it comes to workforce and one of the biggest contributing factors to that is housing," said Mayor Lynn Crawford.

It’s a similar story in tourism-driven places across the nation, but further hardship this town is facing may be able to change mindsets that were once against the idea of affordable housing.

In April, a wildfire wiped out around 200 homes in an area of town that primarily housed folks who were part of the local workforce. It's kicked off a scramble for affordable housing that reached a new need to re-evaluate zoning laws to allow more people to live on less land.

"The community's always been 100% for it until you pick a spot and then it's, well not, you can't do this. We don't want you to do that," said Crawford.

Changing neighbors’ minds about affordable housing is one of the biggest hurdles to its creation.

A 2019 Redfin study showed that home buyers and sellers are nearly twice as likely to oppose housing density in their neighborhoods than they are to support it and more than half support zoning policies that limit density while 27 percent support it.

The National Low Income Housing Coalition guesses that the country is short 7 million rental homes for low-income renters. That’s about 1 in 4 of all rental households nationwide.

"A lot of it is the narrative that's been put out the, that the people that live there are being brought in from outside the community, they're the dregs of our community," he said.

The data, though, disproves that stigma. The National Low Income Housing Coalition says building 100 affordable housing units generates $11.7 million in local income, $2.2 million in taxes and 161 local jobs in the first year alone.

Mayor Crawfoird says Ruidoso is beginning to see the necessity as well as the benefits of having affordable housing.

"What this fire has done and the devastation is put faces. These are some of our firemen that have lost their homes. These are people that work at the hospital. These are people that work at our restaurants, our grocery stores that stock your shelves. Those are the people that have been affected," said Crawford.

The village is working on several solutions including an enterprise fund for housing, tax credits and building modular homes. Crawford says this is possible because the state and local governments, as well as the community, are working together.

"We've been working on these plans constantly, but now some of the doors are opening and we're running through those and those people are working with us and we do appreciate everything," he said.

For business folks like Caswell, he hopes more communities change their perspective on affordable housing.

"Hopefully we can get a change of hearts and minds," he said.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Oregon utilities shut down power to tens of thousands of customers on Friday as dry easterly winds swept into the region in a bid to lessen the risk of wildfires in extremely dry and hot conditions.

Power shut-offs due to extreme fire weather, common in California, are relatively new to the Pacific Northwest. The plans, which were part of permanent rules approved in May to manage wildfire danger in high-risk areas, mark the new reality in a region better known for its rain and temperate rainforests.

Portland General Electric halted power to about 30,000 customers in 12 service areas — including the post West Hills neighborhood of Portland — and a second power company was poised to initiate its own shutoff. More than 40,000 customers were expected to lose power by late Friday in planned shutoffs as winds of up to 60 mph hit and temperatures hovered in the high 80s and low 90s.

Schools in the areas with planned power outages canceled classes and authorities urged residents to charge cellphones and be ready to evacuate at a moment's notice.

Climate change is bringing drier conditions to the Pacific Northwest and that requires strategies that have been common in fire-prone California for the past decade or more, said Erica Fleishman, director of the Oregon Climate Change Research Institute at Oregon State University.

Wind patterns haven't changed, but those winds are now coinciding more frequently with drier vegetation and hotter temperatures — a toxic mix for fire ignition, rapid spread and extreme fire behavior, she said.

"I don't know whether this is the solution, but it's an interim effort to manage wildfire risk," Fleishman said. "People are going, 'Oh my gosh!' The areas we thought were safe, they're realizing those are not immune to fire anymore. The fire likelihood is changing."

The proactive power shutoffs were just the second for Portland General Electric ever. The utility shut down power to 5,000 customers in 2020 near Mount Hood during firestorms that ravaged the state. Extreme winds over Labor Day weekend led to wildfires that burned more than 1 million acres (405,000 hectares), destroyed 4,000 homes and killed at least 11 people — and utilities were blamed for some of those fire starts.

Pacific Power, another major utility in Oregon, said if it shuts off power to customers in six counties later Friday, as anticipated, it will be first time the company has done so since putting a wildfire mitigation plan in place in Oregon in 2018.

The utility was sued last year by residents in two towns that burned to ashes in the 2020 wildfires who blamed the company for not shutting down power in advance of the devastating wind storm.

Pacific Power has since hired a team of meteorologists to make fire weather forecasts and is spending more than $500 million to "harden" its electric grid in high-risk areas by replacing wooden poles with carbonized ones and encasing power lines and conductor boxes to reduce the chances of a spark, said Drew Hanson, a Pacific Power spokesman.

"You can look at the West in general and climate change has impacted areas from Southern California, and then Northern California and now up into this region as well, we're seeing those same conditions," he said.

"It's something we are taking very seriously. We realize the changing landscape. We've been changing and evolving along with it."

A number of blazes are burning in Oregon. The largest is the Double Creek Fire burning in northeastern Oregon near the Idaho border. The fire grew by nearly 47 square miles (122 square kilometers) Wednesday because of wind gusts up to 50 mph (80 kph) and as of Thursday had burned a total of nearly 158 square miles (409 square kilometers). It's threatening about 100 homes near the community of Imnaha.

In Central Oregon, the Cedar Creek Fire east of Oakridge has burned nearly 47 square miles (122 square kilometers). That fire prompted new mandatory evacuations Thursday for several recreational areas and campgrounds in Linn, Deschutes and Klamath counties and for residents in greater Oakridge and Westfir areas to be ready to evacuate.

The Van Meter Fire, which started Wednesday, is burning on Stukel Mountain about 13 miles (21 kilometers) southeast of Klamath Falls. One home and four structures have been destroyed and about 260 structures are threatened by that blaze, Medema said on Thursday.

OREGON, Ohio — An Ohio oil refinery was shut down Wednesday after two people died in the massive fire on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for British Petroleum told the Associated Press that the fire occurred at its Husky Toledo Refinery in the city of Oregon, just outside Toledo.

According to the news outlet, the company said that the two workers were initially injured in the blaze but later succumbed to their injuries.

In a video provided to CNN, Ryan Rohm told the news outlet that he began noticing black smoke rise from the refinery around 7 p.m., adding an explosion also shook the ground and houses nearby.

During a Wednesday night speech on the House of Representatives floor, U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur offered her condolences to the families of Ben and Max Morrissey, the two men who died in the fire.

"Madam Speaker, I rise today with deep sadness to pay tribute to two highly skilled U.S. steelworkers, brothers Ben and Max Morrissey, who tragically lost their lives at the British Petroleum refinery in my hometown," Kaptur said as she addressed lawmakers. "Yesterday, while on the job at the BP-Husky plant in Oregon, Ohio, their lives were cut short in a horrific explosion. Responsible citizens, husbands and fathers who performed America’s essential work that drives progress and our American way of life forward."

The company spokesperson said the fire was extinguished around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday and the refinery was "safely shut down," NBC News reported.

The cause of the fire has not been released, the Associated Press reported.

Korean automaker Kia is issuing another recall due to a possible fire risk.

This time, the recall affects 70,000 Sorento and Sportage SUV models from 2016 to 2023.

On its website, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Kia is recommending that owners park their vehicles outside and away from structures because debris and moisture might get into a tow hitch harness module printed circuit board and cause a short, resulting in a fire.

The NHTSA said that the tow hitch harnesses might have been installed before they were sold or bought as an accessory through a Kia dealership.

The recall focuses the 2021-23 Sorento Hybrid model, the 2022-23 Sorento Plug-in Hybrid, and the 2017-2022 Sportage, the NHTSA said.

According to the NHTSA, three fires were confirmed, but no fatalities, injuries, or crashes were reported.

This recall expands on one Kia issued in August that affected more than 36,000 Kia Telluride models due to a similar issue. That recall also affected 245,000 Hyundai Palisade SUV models.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on Nov. 14, the agency said.

The automaker has dealt with multiple fire-related recalls in recent years, involving brakes, and engines.

MILWAUKEE — Authorities in Wisconsin continue to investigate after 17 people were injured when a bonfire exploded early Saturday morning in the Town of Maple Grove.

In a news release, the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office said about 30 to 40 people were at the gathering just outside Green Bay when it exploded.

TMJ4 reported people came together to celebrate after the Pulaski High School homecoming football game.

According to the Associated Press, investigators believe the explosion may have occurred after someone rolled a drum filled with diesel fuel into the flames.

The sheriff's office said those who were injured self-transported themselves to local hospitals after the explosion.

On Tuesday, the sheriff's office said they are still looking to talk to witnesses, adding they have no intention of citing people for underage drinking.

"We understand there may be some apprehension for some to meet with us based on the evidence of underage drinking," the sheriff's office said in a statement. "Although underage drinking is something law enforcement agencies take seriously, we can assure you, those who were there, that our detectives do not have intentions on issuing citations for this, as our main focus and concern is gathering the facts of this tragic event."

According to TMJ4, five of the victims are having burns treated at Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee.

TMJ4 reported that the Pulaski School District informed the sheriff's office Monday that they won't be allowed to conduct interviews at the schools.

The district said it's cooperating with law enforcement, but it also says its responsibility is to focus on maintaining the educational environment of Pulaski schools, the news outlet reported.

All five are on the fifth floor, which brings some peace to their families, who say they are getting through this together.

Lily Koellner from Brookfield is studying to be a firefighter and EMT. She has serious burns on her face, hands, and legs. She was visiting friends in Pulaski.

Brandon Brzeczkowski will undergo skin graft surgery on Wednesday. His mom, Tammy, says doctors are still trying to make sure he doesn't lose his hands.

With a breathing tube in, he must write what he wants to say. Tammy got a heartbreaking message from him saying, "I want to go home."

Isaac Nelson is also scheduled for his first surgery on Wednesday.

Similar to his friends, he will face many more in the weeks ahead. His mom, Julie, shares that he was able to walk a little and eat for the first time since the bonfire explosion.

Benjamin Van Asten was knocked unconscious when it happened, and his clothes caught on fire. He has burns on over 40% of his body

Kiera Duchateau, the youngest of the kids injured in the incident and being treated in Milwaukee, is a sophomore in high school. She has severe burns on her face, hands, legs, and feet.

"There's just people all over that are trying to reach out and help in any way they can," Mallory Kitchen shared.

There are individual fundraisers for all of these kids, and Kitchen started a collective one.

"When something affects a small town like this, everybody finds out about it very quickly," Kitchen said. "In some of the social media groups, people are like, 'how can we help? What can we do?'"

The money she raises will go to helping those being treated in Milwaukee pay for gas, hotels, and meals. Many of their parents have other children still at home in Pulaski.

"Providing meals for their family still here as these parents are now split between their home and their child that really needs them right now," Kitchen said.

Two young men from Pulaski have been released from the burn unit in Milwaukee and are back home.

They will still be traveling over the next month for skin graph surgeries. One of them said in a post online that he was in a lot of pain.

Katie Crowther at TMJ4 first reported this story.

Firefighters who put out the blaze at a home in Virginia recently got to reunite with a four-legged family member they were able to save from the fire.Dana Glenn and Marty Dickens told WDBJ that the firefighters are heroes for saving their dog Gracie, who means so much to them. "She's been a part of our lives for over five years. She's helped me get over the death of just about all my family," Glenn said. When Dickens and an electrician first noticed smoke coming from upstairs on May 30, everyone was able to run outside except for Gracie, even after the couple tried repeatedly to save her. As Roanoke fire crews arrived, the word got out to search and save Gracie.Lt. Chris White was the one who located Gracie and handed the 90-lb dog to another firefighter.Crews treated Gracie and transported her in an ambulance to a vet to save her life. Now that Gracie is on the mend, her family took her to meet her rescuers.Watch the video above to see their reunion."It means a lot for us to, you know, just do our jobs and have them come back and show their appreciation," White said. Glenn and Dickens also made a $1,000 donation to the Roanoke Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in honor of the firefighters.

[CAPTIONING MADE POSSIBLE BY WLWT-TV] STEVEN: THE SUPPORT FOR DAMAR HAMLIN IS CONTINUES TO POUR IN AS THE BILLS AND BENGALS START PREPARING FOR THEIR NEXT GAME. THE LATEST ON HIS PROGRESS. ALLISON: THERE IS A CHANCE OF SEEING RAIN AND WINTER WEATHER. I WILL SHOW YOU THE TIMELINE. KELLY: PRESIDENT BIDEN CELEBRATES BIPARTISAN WORK TO CELEBRATE FUNDING FOR THE BRENT SPENCE BRIDGE CORRIDOR PROJECT. THE TIMELINE AND WHY SOME BUSINESSES ARE UNHAPPY. >> THIS IS WLWT NEWS 5, LEADING THE WAY WITH BREAKING NEWS. KELLY: WE BEGIN WITH BIG NEWS, ENCOURAGING NEWS. AN UPDATE ON DAMAR HAMLIN. THANK YOU FOR JOINING US. STEVEN: NEWS THAT WE HAVE BEEN WAITING TO GET AND IT CAME IN HOT AND HEAVY. SEE MEDICAL CENTER AND BUFFALO BILLS CONFIRMED SUBSTANTIAL PROGRESS. KELLY: WE WANT TO GET STRAIGHT TO THE HOSPITAL WITH JOHN LONDON. THE WORK OF THE FOLKS AT UC HAS BEEN THE FOCUS OF THE COUNTRY FOR MANY DAYS. JOHN: IT HAS, AND THE INDICATIONS THIS MORNING FROM BOTH THE BUFFALO BILLS AND UC HEALTH ARE ENCOURAGING, MORE SO THAN AT ANY TIME MONDAY NIGHT. ON THE OFFICIAL TEAM PAGE HERE IS WHAT THEY ARE SAYING. -- PER THE PHYSICIANS, DAMAR HAMLIN HAS SHOWN REMARKABLE IMPROVEMENT OVER THE PAST 24 HOURS. WHILE STILL CRITICALLY ILL HE HAS DEMONSTRATED THAT HE IS NEUROLOGICALLY INTACT. HIS LUNGS CONTINUE TO HEAL AND HE IS MAKING STEADY PROGRESS. WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR THE LOVE AND SUPPORT WE HAVE RECEIVED. THAT IS THE MOST ENCOURAGING ASSESSMENT FROM THE ORGANIZATION. UC HEALTH POSTED THE SAME MESSAGE ADDING "WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR THE SUPPORT FROM THE BILLS, BENGALS, AND THE NATION TOWARDS OUR STAFF AND HAMLIN. THE NFL NETWORK REPORTS THAT HE OPENED HIS EYES AND IS RESPONSIVE, GRIPPING THE HANDS OF THOSE CLOSEST TO HIM, ANOTHER POSITIVE SIGN. IT IS NOT KNOWN IF ANY OF THE DOCTORS WILL SPEAK DIRECTLY TO MEDIA AND WE EXPECT TO HEAR FROM THE COACH, SEAN MCDERMOTT, AT SOME POINT. FOR NOW, THE WORDS NEUROLOGICALLY INTACT AND REMARKABLE IMPROVEMENT CERTAINLY STAND OUT AND CARRY A HOPEFULNESS THAT -- MUCH MORE SO THAN WE HAVE SEEN AT ANY POINT THIS WEEK. LIVE AT UC MEDICAL CENTER, JOHN LONDON. STEVEN: SUCH GREAT NEWS AND YOU USE THE TERM NEUROLOGICALLY INTACT AND WE WOULD LIKE TO GET CLARIFICATION OF WHAT THAT MEANS. WHAT IS THE FEELING AROUND THE HOSPITAL. WE HAVE SO MANY PEOPLE COME TO THE HOSPITAL AND LEAVE FLOWERS AND SIT AND PRAY, WHAT IS THE FEELING OUT THERE RIGHT NOW. JOHN: IT IS A FEELING THAT FOLKS ARE FINALLY BEGINNING TO HEAR THE KINDS OF WORDS THAT THEY HOPED TO HEAR IN THE IMMEDIATE AFTERMATH OF THIS. THIS, AS I SAID, IS THE MOST ENCOURAGING READ FROM THE BUFFALO BILLS ORGANIZATION. AND THE FACT THAT UC HEALTH POSTED ON TWITTER ADS RATED -- ADDS GREATER CREDIBILITY THAT THERE HAS BEEN IMPROVEMENT, IMPROVEMENT REFERRED TO AS REMARKABLE OVER THE PAST 24 HOURS. UNTIL WE HEAR DIRECTLY FROM THE DOCTORS, WE WILL HAVE TO TAKE IT AND RUN WITH THIS, WHICH IS GIVING FOLKS HERE A GOOD FEELING. STEVEN: ABSOLUTELY. I KNOW YOU WILL STAY ON TOP OF IT AND GET THOSE ANSWERS. LIVE FROM UC MEDICAL CENTER. A NEW SIGN OUTSIDE IS WISHING HOPE AND HEALING FOR DAMAR HAMLIN AND HIS FAMILY. DANTE MCCALL LIVES ON THE WEST SIDE AND SAID THAT THE COMPANY WANTED TO OFFER VISIBLE SUPPORT AND PRAYERS. MEREDITH STUTZ SPEAKS TO HIM ABOUT HIS MISSION COMING UP TONIGHT AND YOU WILL SEE THAT STORY AT 5:30. NFL LEADERS EXPLAIN HOW THEY PREPARE FOR EVENTS LIKE THIS BUT PRAY THAT IT NEVER DOES. KELLY: THE CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER DESCRIBING HOW MUCH EMERGENCY PLANNING GOES INTO EACH GAME AND THIS IS UNIQUE. DR. ALLEN SILLS SAYS THAT PREPARATION STARTS MONTHS BEFORE THE SEASON AND IT DETAIL DOWN TO HAND SIGNALS THAT OFFICIALS USED TO INDICATE WHAT INJURY A PLAYER MIGHT BE EXPERIENCING. >> THE 60 MINUTE MEETING IS ONE OF IF NOT THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS WE DUE TO PREPARE FOR EACH GAME. IT HAPPENS ONE HOUR BEFORE KICKOFF, AND IT IS A GATHERING OF ALL OF THE MEDICAL PERSONNEL AT THE STADIUM FOR BOTH TEAMS AND THE INDEPENDENT MEDICAL PERSONNEL, AND THE GAME REFEREE. KELLY: ANOTHER KEY COMPONENT IS MAKING SURE THAT PLAYERS HAVE QUICK ACCESS TO LIFESAVING EQUIPMENT FROM DEFIBRILLATORS TO ADVANCED MONITORING EQUIPMENT. HE WAS REFERRING TO THE MEETING THAT HAPPENS BEFORE EVERY NFL GAME. IT DOES HAPPEN, JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE PREPARED. STEVEN: TWO CITIES ARE COMING TOGETHER. KELLY: GREATER CINCINNATI AND THE BUFFALO AREA CONTINUE TO LIFT EACH OTHER UP AS DAMAR HAMLIN CONTINUES THE RECOVERY. CINCY SHIRTS SELLING THREE DIFFERENT DESIGNS ON T-SHIRTS AND SWEATSHIRTS HIGHLIGHTING THE NEWFOUND FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN THE BENGALS AND THE BILLS. 100% OF THE PROCEEDS GO TO HAMLIN’S FOUNDATION. >> CINCINNATI HAS SUCH A BIG HEART AND WE ARE SHOWING THE WORLD THAT AND IT IS AN IMPULSE AND KNEE-JERK REACTION THAT WE WANT TO SHOW OUR SUPPORT AND WE WANT TO HELP IN ANY WAY WE CAN. KELLY: IT IS SOLD -- IT HAS SOLD MORE THAN EIGHT THOUSAND SHIRTS RAISING MONEY FOR THE ORGANIZATION. THE CLOUDS BEFORE THE WET WEATHER RETURNS AND WE ARE GETTING CLOSER TO THE WEEKEND. STEVEN: HOW MUCH CAN YOU DO, DO YOU NEED A RAIN JACKET? ALLISON ROGERS WILL SHOW IF IT IS COLD ENOUGH FOR WINTRY WEATHER. ALLISON: THERE IS SOME CHANCE OF WINTRY WEATHER AND WE ARE EXPECTING TO SEE SOME RAINFALL. STILL QUIET AND DRY. NOT MUCH HAPPENING ON THE RADAR BUT WORKING UP TOWARDS THE CHICAGO AREA AND INDIANA SOME SNOW STAYING WITH THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM MAKING ITS WAY SLOWLY BUT SURELY TO THE EAST. AS IT DOES THERE IS THE POTENTIAL TO SEE SOME RAIN MOVING AS FAR SOUTH AS GREATER CINCINNATI AND NORTHERN KENTUCKY. AND EVEN THE POTENTIAL FOR WINTER WEATHER WORKING ITS WAY IN, ESPECIALLY FOR COMMUNITIES NORTH OF 74 AND INDIANA. THE FURTHER NORTH YOU LIVE A BETTER CHANCE YOU HAVE OF SEEING SNOW FLURRIES MIXING IN WITH SOME OF THE RAINFALL. TEMPERATURES SITTING AROUND 42 IN CINCINNATI. CHILLY FOR SURE. DEALING LIKE 36 WHEN YOU FACTOR IN THE WIND. YOU HAVE TO PULL THE COAT OUT AGAIN AS YOU HEAD OUT THE DOOR. HOW LONG YOU WILL NEED I

WE WILL BRING YOU UPDATES AS WE GET THEM. TODAY IS THE DAY. THE BENGALS POST SEASON KICKING OFF IN PRIMETIME TONIGHT EXCLUSIVELY ON WLWT. THE TEAM HOPING TO START THE PLAYOFFS THE SAME WAY THEY ENDED THE REGULAR SEASON, I NICE WHEN -- A NICE WIN AGAINST THE RAVENS. WE HAVE LIVE TEAM COVERAGE AHEAD OF TONIGHT’S GAME. WE BEGIN WITH WLWT NEWS 5 ANCHOR LACEY ROBERTS WHO IS LIVE OUTSIDE THE STADIUM LEADING OUR COVERAGE THIS MORNING. WE CAN SEE AND FEEL THE EXCITEMENT BUILDING THIS MORNING. LACEY: THAT IS RIGHT. THE BENGALS ARE HOSTING THE RAVENS AFTER BEATING THEM HERE AT PAYCOR LAST WEEK. FANS WILL BE -- IN A MATTER OF HOURS FANS WILL PACK THE STADIUM FOR ROUND ONE OF THE PLAYOFFS. THE BENGALS HAVE WASTED NO TIME PREPARING FOR THIS MATCHUP. TAKE A LISTEN TO WHAT JOE BURROW IS SAYING ABOUT GETTING READY FOR TONIGHT. >> THAT IS WHY YOU PREPARE AND YOU PRACTICE ALL WEEK. YOU HAVE TO HAVE THAT MINDSET AS A QUARTERBACK IN THIS LEAGUE IF YOU WANT TO BE REALLY SUCCESSFUL. YOU CANNOT GO OUT THERE SCARED IN THE MOMENT. YOU HAVE TO BE A LITTLE ARROGANT TO GO OUT THERE IN THAT MOMENT AND MAKE THE PLAYS YOU NEED TO MAKE. IT IS SOMETHING I HAVE THOUGHT A LOT ABOUT. SOMETHING I TRY TO DO. LACEY: TICKETS FOR TONIGHT’S GAME COST FANS AS MUCH AS HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS. BUT TONIGHT A FEW OF THOSE FANS WILL GET TO GO TO THAT GAME FOR FREE THANKS TO ANOTHER FAN’S GENEROSITY. BENGALS FAN, KEVIN CRUZ, BOUGHT 20 TICKETS TO GIVE TO PEOPLE WITH HEARTWARMING STORIES. THAT INCLUDES 12-YEAR-OLD LUCAS LAUER. LUCAS LOST HIS DAD IN MARCH OF 2020 TO CANCER BUT HIS GODFATHER, MICHAEL CIDER, HAS BEEN BY HIS SIDE EVER SINCE. CRUZ HEARD ABOUT THEIR STORY AND GAVE THEM TWO FREE TICKETS TO TONIGHT’S GAME. >> IT’S GREAT BECAUSE I NEVER REALLY GOT A CHANCE WITH MY FATHER SO MAKING NEW MEMORIES AND HAVING NEW EXPERIENCES >> THE BIGGEST THING ABOUT THESE STORIES WAS IT WASN’T ABOUT THE SPORTS ASPECT. IT WAS ABOUT WHAT THE BENGLES WAS DOING FOR THEM IN SPITE OF WHAT THEY WERE GOING ON. THAT’S WHAT REALLY TOUCHED ME LACEY: SOME OF THE OTHER PEOPLE GOING TO THE GAME TONIGHT THANKS TO CRUZ INCLUDE, A 78-YEAR-OLD WOMAN WHO WILL BE ATTENDING HER FIRST BENGALS GAME, A MOTHER WHO’S BEEN BY HER SON’S BED-SIDE IN THE ICU, AND AN AUNT WHO TOOK CUSTODY OF HER NIECES AND NEPHEWS. BENGALS GREATS ARE ALSO SHARING THEIR THOUGHTS AHEAD OF TONIGHT’S GAME. WE SAT DOWN WITH ANTHONY MUNOZ THIS WEEKEND TO GET HIS PERSPECTIVE. HE SAYS HE HAS HAD HIS SHARE OF TREES AND MOMENTS AT THE STADIUM. >> I’VE NEVER HEARD SO MANY WHO DEYS WHEN IM OUT IN PUBLIC DRIVING AROUND, FROM ALL AGE GROUPS. LITTLE KIDS, YOU KNOW IM SURE MOM AND DAD TOLD THEM WHO I WAS. TO TEENAGERS, I MEAN OLD PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF. I MEAN EVERYWHERE IVE GONE ITS BEEN WHO DEY WHO DEY LACEY: IF YOU MISSED OUT ON GETTING ONE OF BOOTSY’S FEAR DA TIGER SHIRTS YOU’RE IN LUCK. MORE ARE BEING PRINTED THIS MORNING. WLWT NEWS 5’S RICHARD CHILES JOINS US LIVE IN ROSELAWN WHERE MORE SHIRTS ARE BEING PRODUCED IN TIME FOR THE GAME. >> SEE COLLINS PARTNERING WITH OUR GOOD FRIENDS, GETTING IT DONE. YOU SEE THE MACHINE WORKING. TORI BERMAN, OWNER OF TB. TALK TO ME ABOUT THIS PROCESS WE ARE SEEING. WHAT MAKES THIS SUCH A UNIQUE THING? >> THIS IS IN A COLOR DESIGN. WE TAKE OUR FILMS, CREATE OUR SCREAMS FROM THE FILMS. HOLLY SETS UP OUR DESIGN A FROM OUR LIGHTEST TO DARKEST. SHE WILL PRINT A WHITE FIELD AND VIBRANT RED AND ORANGES. GRAY GOES ON TOP OF THAT WHITE FIELD. RICHARD: THIS IS THE SHIRT. THIS IS THE PRESS, THIS IS EVERYTHING. YOU GUYS HAVE DONE HOW MANY OF THESE? YOU’RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO PRINT THESE OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS AS THE BENGALS MAKE THAT RUN INTO THE PLAYOFFS. >> WE HAVE PRINTED THOUSANDS OF THESE SHIRTS. WE INTEND TO PRINT MANY MORE THIS COMING WEEK. THIS DESIGN SHE WILL LOAD AND UNLOAD. THESE SHIRTS WILL HIT OVER 300 DEGREES IN THE OVEN. THIS THINK STRETCHES AND WILL NOT CRACK. RICHARD: THESE SHIRTS ARE GOING TO BE AVAILABLE AT BENGALS TAILGATE. YOU ARE ALSO PARTNERING. FOLK HAVE BEEN CALLING ASKING ABOUT THE SHIRTS ALL MORNING. WHERE CAN THEY GET THEM? >> THESE SHIRTS WILL BE AVAILABLE NOON TO SIX. THEY WILL ALSO BE AVAILABLE AT THE BENGALS EXPERIENCE DOWNTOWN. RICHARD: YOU CANNOT HAVE THIS ONE, THIS ONE IS MINE. AN EXTRA-LARGE, GETTING A LITTLE BIT LARGER EVERY MOMENT. A LITTLE BIT BIGGER. BUT WE LOVE THESE SHIRTS. I LOVE SUPPORTING THE CAUSE. BOOTSY PARTNERING WITH WHAT FOUNDATIONS? >> BOOTSY, NEEDIEST KIDS OF ALL. LACEY: RICHARD, MAKE SURE YOU GRAB ME AND KELLY A SHIRT WHILE YOU ARE THERE. COMING UP IN THE NEXT HALF HOUR WE’LL HEAR FROM ANOTHER FORMER BENGALS PLAYER. BACK TO YOU, KELLY

A Tesla Model S "spontaneously caught fire" on a California highway.

According to the Sacramento Fire Department, the Tesla Model S was engulfed in flames when crews arrived at the scene on Highway 50 on Saturday.

The fire department said battery cells continued to combust as they attempted to put the fire out.

It was eventually extinguished after crews used about 6,000 gallons of water, officials said.

Tesla warns about the dangers of a burning battery, saying it releases toxic vapors.

However, no injuries were reported.

The federal government has looked into concerns about Tesla batteries catching fire. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration declined to investigate Tesla battery fires in 2019.

"The available data indicate that noncrash battery fires in Tesla vehicles are rare events," the agency noted.

AN ARREST JUST MADE IN A DEADLY WEST PRICE HILL SHOOTING IN OCTOBER. WHO INVESTIGATORS B JATARA: BREAKING AN ARREST JUST SIX MADE IN A DEADLY WEST PRICE HILL SHOOTING IN OCTOBER. WHO INVESTIGATORS BELIEVE PULLED THE TRIGGER. THE DESPERATE SEARCH TO FIND A MISSING MOTHER. WHERE VOLUNTEERS ARE LOOKING TONIGHT. AND WHAT THE FBI IS OFFERING AS A REWARD. THIS IS WLWT NEWS 5 TODAY, LEADING THE WAY. JATARA: THE SEARCH FOR A MISSING MOTHER, WHO HASN’T BEEN SEEN IN A MONTH AND A HALF, HAS ENTERED A NEW STAGE. THANKS FOR BEING HERE AT 6:00. I’M JATARA MCGEE. THE FBI IS NOW INVOLVED IN THE SEARCH FOR 30-YEAR-OLD CIERRA CHAPMAN FROM DAYTON. AND A LARGE SEARCH IS UNDERWAY RIGHT NOW. WLWT NEWS 5’S RACHEL HIRSCHEIMER HAS BEEN TRACKING THE LATEST UPDATES. RACHEL: IT IS AN EMOTIONAL DAY FOR HER FAMILY. TODAY MARKS THE SECOND SEARCH FOR THIS MISSING MOTHER, AND WE WERE TOLD BY INVESTIGATORS THEY DID NOT FIND ANYTHING TODAY. DAYTON POLICE, MEMBERS OF EQUU SEARCH, CHAPMAN’S FRIENDS AND FAMILY WERE OUT HERE TRYING TO LOCATE HER, IN TOTAL THERE WERE ABOUT 60 PEOPLE COVERING DOZENS OF ACRES. THE SEARCH BEGAN AT NINE THIS MORNING AND WRAPPED UP A SHORT TIME AGO. CHAPMAN HAS NOT BEEN SEEN SINCE SHE LEFT HER EX-BOYFRIEND’S APARTMENT IN TROTWOOD, OHIO ON DECEMBER 27. LAST MONTH, A BREAK IN THE CASE CAME WHEN HER CAR WAS FOUND IN MIDDLETOWN WITH HER BELONGINGS INSIDE, BUT SHE WAS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND. THIS WEEK, THE FBI JOINED THE SEARCH. THE AGENCY IS OFFERING A $10,000 REWARD FOR ANY INFORMATION LEADING TO CHAPMAN’S WHEREABOUTS. THE NEWS TODAY DURING THIS LARGE-SCALE SEARCH IS JUST HEARTBREAKING FOR HER FAMILY, AS CREWS GO BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD TO TRY AND RETRACE HER STEPS. >> IT IS A LONG DAY BUT WE ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO SEARCH. WE ARE NOT GOING TO GIVE UP. WE’RE GOING TO DO THIS EVERY DAY IF WE HAVE TO. EVERY CHANCE AND OPPORTUNITY WE GET AS LONG AS THE POLICE AND FBI AND EVERYONE IS WILLING TO HELP US, WE ARE GOING TO BE HERE. RACHEL: IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION ON WHERE CIERRA CHAPMAN IS, EVEN IF IT’S THE SMALLEST TIP YOU’RE ASKED TO CONTACT THE DAYTON POLICE DEPARTMENT, CRIME STOPPERS, OR EVEN THE DOCK ELLIS FOUNDATION. YOU CAN LEAVE A TIP ANONYMOUSLY. YOU ARE ENCOURAGED TO SPEAK UP IF YOU KNOW ANY INFORMATION. HER FAMILY IS HOPING TO BRING HER HOME. JATARA: YOU’RE HEART BREAKS FOR THIS FAMILY. I KNOW YOU SPOKE WITH THE DIRECTOR OF EQUU SEARCH, WHAT DID HE SAY ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? RACHEL: THE DIRECTOR WAS CONFIDENT GOING INTO TODAY SEARCH HE WAS HOPING TO FIND HER. THERE WAS A TEAM OF 60 PEOPLE AND NOW THEY ARE GOING TO GO BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD. HE SAID EVEN THOUGH THEY DID NOT FIND HER TODAY HE IS ENCOURAGED THEY WILL FIND HER. THEY ARE NOT GIVING UP. JATARA: BREAKING TONIGHT, AN ARREST IN A DEADLY SHOOTING IN WEST PRICE HILL. 22-YEAR-OLD LORENZO COBB IS CHARGED WITH MURDER AFTER A MAN WAS FOUND DEAD INSIDE A VEHICLE, WITH A CHILD INSIDE. THIS HAPPENED BACK IN OCTOBER ON SUNSET AVENUE. THE VICTIM WAS 33-YEAR-OLD ASHTON PENN. POLICE NEVER SAID WHAT PENN’S RELATIONSHIP WAS WITH THE CHILD, WHO THANKFULLY WAS NOT HURT AND WAS REUNITED WITH FAMILY. CPD’S HOMICIDE UNIT ARRESTED COBB YESTERDAY EVENING. HE’S BEING HELD AT THE JUSTICE CENTER ON $1 MILLION BOND. CLOSER TO HOME, CINCINNATI CITY MANAGER SHERYL LONG SAYS, GREATER CINCINNATI WATER WORKS IS MONITORING OUR WATER QUALITY AFTER THE TRAIN DERAILMENT IN EAST PALESTINE LAST WEEK. LOW LEVELS OF DANGEROUS CHEMICALS FROM THE ONES RELEASED IN THAT DERAILMENT, WERE DETECTED IN THE OHIO RIVER DOWNSTREAM OF THE INCIDENT. RIGHT NOW, LONG SAYS, THEY’RE FAR UPSTREAM OF CINCINNATI. BUT, SHE’S ASSURING CITY RESIDENTS THAT WATER WORKS IS KEEPING A CLOSE EYE ON IT, AND WILL ACT QUICKLY IF NEEDED. TURNING TO WEATHER, SPRING-LIKE TEMPERATURES OUT THERE RIGHT NOW AND IT SOUNDS LIKE, THE WARM CONTINUES. METEOROLOGIST ADAM BURNISTON IS HERE WITH YOUR MOST ACCURATE FORECAST. ADAM: THAT SPRINGLIKE AIR KEEPS GETTING BETTER PRIZE. -- IT KEEPS GETTING BETTER PRIZE. NEXT WEEK YOU WILL BE FEELING LIKE A APPROPRIATE. WE WILL KEEP IT DRY AND IT IS GOOD NEWS IN THE FORECAST. HOPEFULLY MANIFESTING MORE SPRINKLE WITH MY PINK SHIRT TODAY. 40 WHAT IS YOUR HIGH TODAY. A BEAUTIFUL SUNSET OUT THERE THIS EVENING. 41 IN CINCINNATI. WE WILL CALL HIM DOWN ANOTHER WE HAVE THE SUN SETTING. WE GO DOWN TO THE 40’S EVENTUALLY LATER TONIGHT AND WERE TALKING MID TO LOWER 30’S. STILL HOLDING ONTO THE COLD NIGHTS, COLD MORNING TO FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS, THE MILD AIR, THE MORE SPRING LIKE AIR COMING INTO THE FORECAST FOR THE NEXT WEEK BEFORE STORES MOVE IN.

WE COULD SEE A FEW SHOWERS ON THE TIMELINE FOR WHEN THAT CAN MOVE IN COMING UP. LACEY: HAPPENING NOW, A SEVEN ALARM FIRE, SENDING SMOKE BILLOWING OVER CINCINNATI ALL DAY SATURDAY. TWO BUILDINGS LIGHTING UP IN FLAMES IN CAMP WASHINGTON AS FIREFIGHTERS SPENT HOURS TRYING TO PUT THE FIRE OUT AT THE VACANT BUILDING. WLWT NEWS 5’S RACHEL HIRSCHHEIMER SHOWS US HOW CREWS WORKING THROUGH THE NIGHT TO CLEAN UP. REPORTER: THICK CLOUDS OF SMOKE, SCATTERING ACROSS PARTS OF GREATER CINCINNATI SPARKING ON A USUALLY QUIET ARLINGTON STREET IN CAMP WASHINGTON. >> WE WERE ABLE TO HOLD THE FIRE BETWEEN THE FAR WALL BETWEEN THE PROPERTIES AND DID NOT ENTER INTO A COFFEE STRUCTURE BUT WE WERE PREPARED IF IT DID HAPPEN. REPORTER: THE MAIN SMOKE, SEEN POURING OUT OF THE RELIABLE CASTINGS BUILDING BUT FLAMES, QUICKLY SPREADING TO A STRUCTURE NEXT DOOR EXPANDING THE SCENE FOR FIRST RESPONDERS. >> WHEN I ARRIVED ON THE SCENE I STRUCK THE OTHER ALARMS. REPORTER: THIS LABOR INTENSIVE SEVEN ALARM FIRE REQUIRED AID FROM NEARBY DEPARTMENTS INCLUDING NORWOOD, GREEN TOWNSHIP, SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, AND OTHER AGENCIES. THE LAST TIME THIS CITY EXPERIENCED A FIRE TO THIS MAGNITUDE WAS IN 2003 DURING THE QUEEN CITY BARREL FIRE. >> FIRED TO GET INTO ANOTHER STRUCTURE. WE WERE ABLE TO CONTROL BOTH FIRES SIMULTANEOUSLY AND REDUCE THE THREAT TO OTHER STRUCTURES IN THE AREA. REPORTER: AS THE CINCINNATI FIRE DEPARTMENT CELEBRATES ITS 107 BIRTHDAY NEXT MONTH, THE CHIEF IS CREDITING HIS TEAM’S EXPERIENCE ON THE JOB FOR ENSURING EVERYBODY SAFETY. >> WE SHOWED UP AND WE SHOWED UP BUT WE NORMALLY DO. OUR GUYS ARE UP FOR THE TASK. LACEY: THAT WAS RACHEL HIRSCHHEIMER REPORTING. CREWS ARE IN THE PROCESS NOW OF TEARING THE STRUCTURE DOWN, BECAUSE THE CHIEF SAYS IT IS TOO UNSTABLE TO REMAIN STANDING. THE ATF SAYS THE BUILDINGS DEPARTMENT AND A DEMOLITION COMPANY ARE ALSO INVOLVED MOVING FORWARD. THE CAUSE OF THIS FIRE IS CURRENTLY UNDER INVESTIGATION. ALSO HAPPENING NOW, ANOTHER NORFOLK SOUTHERN TRAIN HAS DERAILED IN OHIO. OUR NEIGHBORS JUST NORTH OF DAYTON ARE SHELTERING IN PLACE. THIS DERAILMENT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT ON STATE ROUTE 41 IN SPRINGFIELD. NORFOLK SOUTHERN SAYS ABOUT 20 CARS DERAILED WHILE TRAVELING THROUGH THE AREA. THEY SAY NO ONE WAS HURT AND NO HAZARDOUS MATERIALS WERE INVOLVED. MULTIPLE LOCAL AND STATE AGENCIES ARE ON THE SCENE INCLUDING THE OHIO EMA, AND THE OHIO EPA. ANYONE WITHIN A THOUSAND FEET OF THE CRASH IS ASKED TO SHELTER IN PLACE OUT OF AN ABUNDANCE OF CAUTION. NO EVACUATION ORDERS HAVE BEEN GIVEN. OHIO SENATOR SHERROD BROWN ISSUING A STATEMENT ON LAST NIGHT’S DERAILMENT. SAYING IN PART, QUOTE, FOUR NORFOLK SOUTHERN DERAILMENTS IN LESS THAN FIVE MONTHS. BECAUSE THIS CORPORATION HAS BEEN MORE CONCERNED WITH ITS PROFIT MARGIN THAN WITH OHIOANS’ SAFETY. AND U.S. TRANSPORTATION SECRETARY PETE BUTTIGIEG, ALSO TWEETING HE HAS ALREADY SPOKEN TO GOVERNOR MIKE DEWINE. AND FEDERAL RAILROAD ADMINISTRATION PERSONNEL, ARE HEADING TO CLARK COUNTY. DESPITE THIS LATEST TRAIN DERAILMENT, AND LAST MONTH’S TOXIC RAILROAD DISASTER IN EAST PALESTINE. THE NATION’S MAJOR FREIGHT RAILROADS STILL WANT SINGLE-PERSON CREWS. THAT MEANS ONLY ONE CREW MEMBER, AN ENGINEER, IS IN THE CAB OF THE LOCOMOTIVE. BUT A BIPARTISAN GROUP OF LAWMAKERS, INCLUDING OHIO SENATORS J.D. VANCE AND SHERROD BROWN JUST INTRODUCED LEGISLATION THIS WEEK THAT WOULD FORBID THOSE SINGLE-PERSON CREWS. THE ASSOCIATION OF AMERICAN RAILROADS HAS RESPONDED, SAYING SINGLE CREWS ARE STILL THEIR PREFERRED METHOD. NEW DETAILS THIS MORNING IN A SHOOTING THAT LEFT A PREGNANT WOMAN DEAD IN COLERAIN TOWNSHIP. WE NOW KNOW THE VICTIM IS 26-YEAR-OLD INDIA KINAMORE. SHE WAS SHOT AND KILLED JUST BEFORE 5:00 SATURDAY MORNING, ON HIDDEN MEADOWS DRIVE. WE’RE TOLD SHE WAS IN THE LATE STAGES OF PREGNANCY. THE SHOOTING ALSO RESULTED IN THE DEATH OF HER BABY. POLICE HAVE NOT PUBLICLY IDENTIFY THE SUSPECT. IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING, GIVE COLERAIN POLICE A CALL. THE 22-YEAR-OLD WOMAN CHARGED WITH KIDNAPPING A 2-YEAR-OLD IN NORTH COLLEGE HILL, APPEARED IN FRONT OF A JUDGE SATURDAY MORNING. LUCY BULLOCK TURNED HERSELF IN FRIDAY NIGHT HOURS AFTER 2-YEAR-OLD BRANDON ROZIER JUNIOR WAS REUNITED WITH HIS FAMILY. THE TODDLER WAS TAKEN FROM HIS BABYSITTER THURSDAY. HE WAS THE SUBJECT OF AN AMBER ALERT FOR MORE THAN 30 HOURS. BULLOCK IS CHARGED WITH KIDNAPPING AND ABDUCTION. POLICE HAVE NOT DETERMINED A MOTIVE. BULLOCK’S ATTORNEY SAID IN COURT SHE IS DEALING WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES. >> WE POINT OUT THE CHILD WAS NEVER IN DANGER. MEMBERS OF MY CLIENT’S FAMILY FOUND HER, RECOVERED THE CHILD, CONTACTED THE MOTHER OF THE CHILD. THE CHILD WAS RETURNED. >> IN REVIEWING THE DEFENSE RECORD, MULTIPLE CHARGES FOR OBSTRUCTION AND RESISTING ARREST AND DISCLOSING PERSONAL INFORMATION. LACEY: A JUDGE SAID BULLOCK HAS FAILED TO APPEAR FOR COURT DATES NINE TIMES. SHE’S ALSO FACING UNRELATED FELONY CHARGES AND JUST VIOLATED HER PROBATION. THE JUDGE SET HER BOND AT $250,000, FOR EACH OF THE TWO CHARGES AGAINST HER. THE XAVIER MUSKETEERS ENDING THE REGULAR SEASON ON A HIGH NOTE. OLIVIA RAY JOINS US NEXT WITH HOW THE MUSKIES BEAT THE BUTLER BULLDOGS. BUT FIRST, THREE TORNADOES NOW CONFIRMED TO HAVE TOUCHED DOWN IN OUR AREA DURING FRIDAY’S STORMS

Update: The Fire Department has given the ALL CLEAR signal. It appears to be a faulty alarm.Report of fire alarm activated in the 3500 block of Madison Road in Oakley, building being evacuated. This is the Crossroads church building. There is no indication of an active fire at this time, but scanner traffic indicates children are being evacuated from the kids club north entrance and are going to be on the east side of the building. Concerned parents can go to the evacuation area, but the scanner indicates children will not be released until all are accounted for. This story was curated by Hearst's WLWT Alert Desk.Do you have photos or video of this incident? On June 1, 2008, an enormous fire at the Universal Studios Hollywood theme park in California destroyed a massive collection of irreplaceable recordings by some of the greatest musicians in American history.Nobody was seriously injured in the fire, but The New York Times referred to the disaster as "The Day the Music Burned." The Times estimated that between 120,000 and 175,000 master recordings were lost in the fire, which included songs by Aretha Franklin, Billie Holiday and Judy Garland. Universal claimed the story exaggerated the number of recordings that were destroyed. The fire also destroyed a number of archived film copies, a set from "Back to the Future" and a popular King Kong-theme attraction. A new King Kong attraction opened at Universal in 2010. The three-alarm fire was started by maintenance workers who were repairing the roof of a building, using blowtorches to heat asphalt shingles. The workers left before making sure that the shingles had cooled off. A lawsuit was filed by musicians and estates against Universal, claiming the company had been negligent in protecting their recordings. The lawsuit was dismissed by a federal judge in 2020.

Fire erupted at a petrochemical plant in the Houston area Friday, sending nine workers to a hospital and causing a huge plume of smoke visible for miles.Emergency responders were called to help around 3 p.m. at the Shell facility in Deer Park, a suburb east of Houston. The city of Deer Park said in an advisory that there was no shelter-in-place order for residents.Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said earlier in the day that five contracted employees were hospitalized for precautionary reasons, adding that they were not burned. He said they were taken to a hospital due to heat exhaustion and proximity to the fire.Shell Deer Park officials said on Twitter Friday night that they were continuing to respond to the fire, all workers were accounted for and nine workers had been released after undergoing precautionary medical evaluations.Nothing exploded, Gonzalez said, although the sheriff's office initially responded to emergency calls saying there was an explosion. As of Friday evening, the fire was still burning but had died down and was contained, Gonzalez said. The cause of the blaze was still being investigated. The fire started while the olefins unit was undergoing routine maintenance. Air monitoring for any impact from the fire was ongoing, and had not detected any harmful levels of chemicals, Shell Deer Park said."There is no danger to the nearby community," the post said. The fire started at about 2:56 p.m. in the facility's olefins unit. The product that ignited includes cracked heavy gas oil, cracked light gas oil and gasoline, Shell Deer Park said.“The cause of the fire will be the subject of a future investigation, and our immediate priorities remain the safety of people and the environment,” facility officials said.Shell was conducting its own air quality monitoring, but the city has yet to receive an update, said Kaitlyn Bluejacket, a spokesperson for Deer Park. The city was advised by Shell that there was no need at the time to shelter in place, but that the city would update residents if that changed, Bluejacket said.Fire crews from the Deer Park facility and nearby plants responded.Wind conditions were favorable for fighting the blaze, although temperatures soared to near 90 degrees Fahrenheit in the Houston area, but high humidity made it feeler hotter than 100 degrees Fahrenheit.Harris County Fire Marshal Captain James Singleton said his office would be in Deer Park through the weekend investigating.“You’re looking at a large number of people that need to be interviewed,” Singleton said. “Everyone who was at the unit at the time of the fire, the controllers, management, anybody that called 911."Houston meteorologists said the smoke plumes were visible from space via satellite.Facility fires are not uncommon in the area, with the strong presence of the petrochemical industry. In March, an explosion and a fire erupted at a facility owned by INEOS Phenol in nearby Pasadena, Texas, leaving one injured.A fire in 2019 at a facility owned by Intercontinental Terminals Company burned for days and though it caused no injuries, it triggered air quality warnings.___AP writer Lisa Baumann reported from Bellingham, Washington.

A woman who was pulled from a house fire in California Sunday morning has died, family told sister station KCRA 3 on Monday. She is credited by the family as the reason they were able to escape. The house fire was sparked by an artificial Christmas tree around 2 a.m. Sunday. Investigators said an electrical short from the Christmas tree caused the fire, and the home did not have working smoke detectors.Family identified the woman as 22-year-old Destiny Abdrazack.Neighbors said they woke up to a loud sound and looked out the window. "You could see the flickering light on the tree and that's kind of like the telltale sign of a fire," Richard Byers said.He and his wife Brandy Byers ran three doors down and saw Abdrazack's family outside."They were screaming, 'Destiny! There's someone inside! There's someone inside!' There's nothing any of us could do," Brandy said.Richard said he couldn't just stand there and watch the house burn. He grabbed a fire extinguisher while another neighbor used a garden hose. He said a family member was motioning to the front window. "That's where I aimed my fire extinguisher, but the fire just came right back," Richard said. "It was too intense, moving too fast."Ernest Isom, his wife, their son and his fiance and two other adults had fallen asleep celebrating Christmas Eve."Unfortunately, they wanted to keep the lights on until the last minute and we all happen to fall asleep and we had an instant, seconds to get out," Isom said. "It was fast, and that's how quick it went. I'm talking minutes."The family lost everything, including two dogs. But Isom calls Abdrazack — she was his future daughter-in-law — a hero for her quick actions."Unfortunately, she was the one who yelled fire, and that's the sad part. She saved our lives," Isom said.Loved ones have started a fundraiser for the family impacted by the fire.Fire officials encourage people to check their batteries and make sure they are working.
Fire crews with the Cincinnati Fire Department responded to blaze around 7 a.m. at Meyer & Geiser Funeral home on 4989 Glenway Ave. At least 65 firefighters and 15 companies responded.

According to the fire department, the fire was difficult to battle because of the cold and how difficult it was for crews to access the flames.

Tom Lakamp, operations chief with Cincinnati Fire Department, said when fire crews arrived, there was heavy fire in the back of the building.

"We tried to make an interior attack from multiple sides and just kept getting pushed out by heat,' Lakamp said.

Lakamp said that is when the fire department shifted to an defensive attack.

The owner of the funeral home and two people who lived on the second floor were inside when the fire started.

The owner said he was working when the blaze broke out.

"He did a great job of getting everybody out of the building before we arrived," Lakamp said.

No one was injured in the fire, Lakamp said.

Lakamp said the building is a complete loss. The building is expected to be torn down sometime Saturday. No neighboring properties were damaged.

The fire department is asking people to avoid the area. Fire crews had to use a lot of water to battle the blaze and that water could freeze, causing for slippery conditions.

Lakamp also said the community should reach out and support the owner of the funeral home, along with the two people who lived on the second floor.

"You know, this business owner has been in this community for a really long time," Lakamp said.

Right now, there is no word on what started the fire.

An elderly man said he was stuck inside his home during a garage fire Monday afternoon, as the flames inched closer and closer to him. Luckily, help was a stone's throw away.Harold Kaler, 92, told sister station KCRA he was sitting in his electric reclining chair in a room right next to the garage in his home when a fire caused the power to go out, so Harold had no electricity to prop the chair back up."I would have just sat there. I couldn't get out of the chair,” Harold said. But even if he could, Kaler’s mobility issues presented another problem. He usually uses a ramp in his garage to leave the house, which is owned by his son Bill Kaler. But it was soon engulfed in flames.Harold noted that smoke was coming through the cracks on the door. Luckily, a familiar face stepped in to help. Harold’s next door neighbor Erik Bean said when another neighbor alerted him about the fire, he grabbed the fire extinguisher and ran right over.Home surveillance video shows Bean making his way toward the house. He walked up the front steps and went through the front door.“Luckily the door wasn’t locked,” Bean said. “Smoke was billowing into the garage and the door itself to the garage was glowing red.”That is when Bean saw Harold lying down in his chair."I just came over, and helped him get out of his recliner, grabbed his walker and then we proceeded out of the house,” Bean said. This all happened before Sacramento Metro Fire arrived to the scene. Bean is now being lauded for his quick action."I think that's very kind, but very overstated,” Bean said in response. “It was just the right thing to do. Now that I have a little time to reflect on it, I did put myself in personal harm or harm's way, but I would do it again."Bill Kaler, Harold’s son and the homeowner, said he was not home at the time and is relieved Bean acted so quickly. He also said first responders were on scene a few minutes afterward.“Erik is a really good friend and he keeps an eye on the place all the time,” Bill said. “The response of the fire department was just incredible.”Harold said he is grateful to Erik for what he did."He got me up and got me out of the place, and I was really thankful for that,” Harold said.Sacramento Metro Fire said they still have not determined the cause of the fire. Harold and Bill told KCRA that it will take about six to eight months to get everything cleaned and remodeled.

Monday's fatal fire in southwest Baltimore shocked the city fire department and fire departments across the country as an investigation gets underway. This investigation is personal for the federal, state and Baltimore City agents investigating the origin and cause of Monday's fire at a vacant rowhouse."It is a tragic loss for all of us because we are family and we lost a lot of family yesterday," Maryland State Fire Marshal Brian Geraci said. "There's a lot of damage to the structure. We may not be able to determine a cause."City fire officials said the fire started around 6 a.m. and the building partially collapsed, trapping four firefighters inside. Three fire service members died, and a fourth remains hospitalized at Shock Trauma."We are all heartbroken," Geraci said.Investigators went door to door in the neighborhood, searching for surveillance video that may help them figure out who entered and left the building. A specialized crew from Montgomery County shored up the structure so investigators could safely dig through the rubble."We know there is no power to the building. We know there is no electric in the building. So, those types of sources have been ruled out," Geraci said.Investigators are also looking into a 2015 fire at the same location that left three firefighters injured. Investigators are looking for comparisons.Sister station WBAL looked into who owns the vacant home and learned the property owners now live in Pennsylvania. One of their relatives, Jeffery Shore, said: "It's sad three people lost their life because the city didn't do their job keeping squatters away. My relatives shouldn't have left the property abandoned." "There must be a plan in place moving forward to prevent this from happening again," Geraci said.City hall officials said the building will be torn down after the property is released from the investigation.Baltimore City Fire Department spokeswoman Blair Adams said there is no policy in place regarding entering a known abandoned building to fight a fire, but she said there is always room for improvement.Injured firefighter's condition improvesFire officials updated the condition of the fourth Baltimore firefighter injured in Monday's fire and collapse at a vacant row home.EMT/Firefighter John McMaster has been upgraded to fair condition and he is conscious and alert at Shock Trauma, Baltimore Fire Chief Niles Ford said. Ford visited McMaster Tuesday."He was able to speak and we were able to talk to him. We prayed with him and we're very optimistic about his condition and him getting out of the hospital soon," Ford said.A city mourns: Remembering Baltimore's bravest Lt. Paul Butrim had been with the Baltimore Fire Department for more than 16 years. He started in 2005 as a firefighter and paramedic apprentice.Firefighter/Paramedic Kenny Lacayo had been with the Baltimore Fire Department for seven years. He also worked with the Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad in Montgomery County, where he was named paramedic of the year in 2016.Lacayo's father was overcome with grief while speaking about his son."I would like my son to be remembered as a son of a proud father, loving and caring, loved his community and the reason I say that is because he liked to help people," his father said.Wheaton's Fire Chief Mark Dempsey also said Lacayo was a rising star in the Baltimore City Fire Department."He came to the rescue squad shortly after graduation and he flourished there. He became a firefighter became a paramedic was awarded paramedic of the year," Dempsey said.Firefighter/Paramedic Kelsey Sadler had been with the Baltimore Fire Department for 15 years. She was in the same recruit class as a firefighter and paramedic trainee who died in a training accident in 2007. The recruits in that class were given the opportunity to leave; Sadler decided to continue on with her career.Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan ordered flags across the state to be lowered to half-staff to honor Butrim, Sadler and Lacayo.Watch the video above for the full story.
