The McDonald's employee who was shot at a Brooklyn, New York, restaurant on Monday has reportedly died.

According to WNBC, the alleged shooter and the 23-year-old employee got into an altercation stemming from cold french fries.

Police said they arrested a 20-year-old for the shooting. He is charged with attempted murder and criminal possession. Those charges could be upgraded now that the victim is dead.

An 18-year-old was also arrested in the case. PIX 11 reports that she handed the shooter the weapon and then ran off with it after the shooting.

The “chicken wars” may be heating up again in the fast-food industry.

McDonald’s announced Tuesday that it will soon be introducing spicy chicken nuggets to its menu, an item popularized by competitor Wendy’s.

McDonald’s says it will start offering both Spicy Chicken McNuggets and Mighty Hot Sauce in the United States starting on September 16.

“Breaded with a sizzling tempura coating made of both cayenne and chili peppers, these craveable, dippable and downright-delicious Spicy Chicken McNuggets are joining our classic McNugget line up, and pack plenty of spice and flavor into each bite,” wrote McDonald’s in a press release.

The spicy nuggets and sauce will only be available for a limited time and at participating restaurants.

“This is the first time we’ve introduced a new flavor of our classic Chicken McNuggets in the U.S. since they came to menus in 1983,” said Vice President of Menu Innovation, Linda VanGosen.

The fast-food chain says the Mighty Hot Sauce is its first new sauce since 2017 and it will be the hottest one available at its restaurants.

“For those who care to dial up the heat, we’ve crafted our new Mighty Hot Sauce, boasting a powerful blend of crushed red peppers and spicy chilis,” said McDonald’s.

Additionally, McDonald’s says it will start selling a new McFlurry made with Chips Ahoy!

“This delicious treat features vanilla soft-serve, caramel topping and Chips Ahoy! cookie pieces blended throughout,” said McDonalds.

The Chips Ahoy! McFlurry will also be available for a limited time starting Sept. 16, in snack and regular sizes.

Chipotle is adding smoked brisket to its menus nationwide following a successful test conducted last year.

The chain said the limited-time offering, which is one of its most requested menu items, will go on sale Thursday. However, members of the chain's growing rewards program can get it two days early — beginning Tuesday — if they order through its website or on the app.

Chipotle described the brisket as "smoked to perfect tenderness" and seasoned with a blend of spices and a Mexican pepper sauce. It's also topped with a new sauce made with smoked chili peppers. The company said it took two years to develop a recipe that's "uniquely Chipotle."

Brisket was tested in November 2020 using the company's "stage-gate process" across more than 60 restaurants in Ohio and California. Chipotle adds new items to its menu at select restaurants and evaluates their performance before launching them nationwide. The most recent menu item it tested using this process was plant-based chorizo at locations in Denver and Indianapolis.

Other offerings that started in a few U.S. cities before expanding nationwide include riced cauliflower, carne asada and its popular quesadilla.

Chipotle has been performing well over the past few months, despite raising its menu prices by 3.5% to 4% to cover the costs of higher wages for employees and ingredients. In the second quarter, revenue grew 39% to $1.9 billion. Sales at restaurants open at least 13 months spiked 31%.

Shares of Chipotle are up 40% this year.

The stress of the COVID-19 pandemic has led to weight gain for many Americans.

“During the beginning, I had to start working out outside because the gyms and things like that were closed. So, I made do with what I could,” said Marcus Rogers, a YMCA member.

Each time a weight clanks or someone breathes deep, it’s the sound of someone like Rogers releasing a little bit of stress.

But many of us haven’t been able to release that stress during the pandemic, and that may have caused us to be a little heavier when we step on the scale.

“The more stress people that people were experiencing, the more weight they were gaining,” said Dr. Arthur Evans, the CEO of the American Psychological Association (APA).

The APA has been looking at the impacts of stress and weight gain during the pandemic.

“Americans are gaining weight at a pretty significant level about, about 15 pounds,” said Evans.

About 42% of people surveyed by the APA gained more weight than they intended. In that group, people gained 29 pounds on average.

Fifteen to 30 pounds is no small matter. We asked Cami Woomer, a nutritionist with the YMCA Metro Denver about the relationship between stress and weight gain.

“Stress can be an indicator of weight gain itself. So when people are feeling stressed out, sometimes we go to food, sometimes that means we’re eating more in portions, or we’re eating more throughout the day. Also, stress levels impact our ability to lose weight as well,” said Woomer.

Cortisol is the bodies main stress hormone and several scientific studies have linked cortisol levels to changes in weight. Higher levels of cortisol are also linked to people being less likely to control how much and what they eat.

But not everyone’s stress has risen the same over the course of the last year.

“People who are essential workers had more stress than other people. Parents whose children were doing remote learning were also experiencing more stress. We also found people of color were experiencing more stress and younger people were experiencing more stress,” said Evans.

While that extra stress can lead to weight gain, a healthier lifestyle can help reduce your stress levels.

“Exercise is releasing those endorphins, you’re feeling a little bit better,” said Woomer.

Exercise can also release muscle tension and help regulate cortisol levels.

Certain foods can also have an effect on you.

“Things like caffeine, things that are high in carbohydrates, high in fat, high sodium things can kind of aggravate the stress levels in our body a little bit. And things like whole foods, like whole grains, fruits and vegetables, lean proteins and healthy fats can help reduce inflammation and stress in our body,” said Woomer.

Stress can be the source of some of your weight gain, but losing a little bit and eating a little better could be your road map pushing out some of the stress in your life.

The supply chain shortage just got fowl: Chick-fil-A is limiting the number of sauces it's giving out to customers because of limited stock.The chicken chain said Wednesday that industry-wide supply chain issues, which are affecting essentially every aspect of the economy, has resulted in a "shortage of select items" that Chick-fil-A serves, including sauces.In response, Chick-fil-A is only giving customers one dipping sauce cup per item ordered at many of its 2,600 U.S. restaurants."We are actively working to make adjustments to solve this issue quickly and apologize to our guests for any inconvenience," the company said in a statement.The chain said it's working to fix the sauce supply problems as quickly as possible.Fast food restaurants have been hit especially hard in recent months with both a labor shortage and supply chain issues. For example, ketchup packets have come in short supply amid heightened demand. Heinz recently announced a 25% increase in production.The fried chicken wars are putting a strain on the poultry population. Major chains, including KFC, Buffalo Wild Wings and Wingstop, are "paying steep prices" for chicken and suppliers are having trouble keeping up demand because of difficulties attracting workers.Luckily for Chick-fil-A, the company says it hasn't been affected by the chicken shortage.
