A little boy from New Richmond has the spirit of a tiger. He's the Bengals biggest, smallest fan and despite a critical condition, he does not let that stop him from rooting on his team. When you're a kid fighting just to feel good, to feel like all the other kids your age, the little things make all the difference."I knew we'd be good but I didn't think we'd be like AFC championship bound or anything like that," River Blank said.So even when the team wasn't selling merchandise and fans weren't jumping on the bandwagon, 10-year-old River Blank was still a huge fan."No, I was just used to it when we kept on losing," Blank said.River Blank has met players and gotten balls signed. Former cornerback Darqueze Dennard even gave him his shoes."This is his focus. Before he even comes downstairs in the morning, he's checking stats," River's mom Amanda Blank said.River Blank was born with infantile scoliosis."When he was 6 months old, about the time he started to sit up, we noticed he kind of sat with a lean," Amanda Blank said. "And about a week later he started casting within a week."For most of his life, he's worn casts — 31 of them so far — to try and straighten his back. The orange and black one is his favorite.River Blank has been through five surgeries and even though he's out of the casts now, the road isn't going to be easy. There are more surgeries and more months in the hospital."He doesn't let it bother him at all," Amanda Blank said. "Seeing him figure it all out makes it easier for us. And we always say there's kids out there who are going through way worse and there are parents who are going through way worse, I feel like we're kind of lucky."But River has a whole lot of Who Dey faith in himself and his hometown team."I think we're gonna win the AFC championship and not just go all the way here for nothing," River Blank said. "Burrow's used to it. He played in the SEC in college and that's louder than Arrowhead."

Just three days ago, Noah Harsh and his grandpa Ed were ready to cheer on the Raiders at Paul Brown Stadium. It was a Christmas gift from grandson to grandad. Ed Fernandes grew up in Oakland and couldn't wait to watch his team take on the Bengals. But once the pair made the trip from Miamisburg to Paul Brown Stadium. The excitement and anticipation quickly faded."I just knew something was off just the way he was falling so I tried to catch him but he just fell," Harsh said.Harsh watched his grandfather stumble to the ground. As he panicked about what to do next, in came an unexpected hero."He said I'm going to do CPR, I'm an ER professional, I got this. So he started doing CPR and he got a pulse back," Harsh said.Bengals fanatic Jerry Mills, who also happens to be an emergency room nurse in Dallas, Texas, and former Covington firefighter, saw Ed collapse and sprang into action."When I started CPR another nurse came up and she opened his airway for me and we started CPR right away," Mills said. "God has a reason for everything because for me to come all the way from Texas and there were a lot of people there at the time, and nobody jumped down to check and see if he had a pulse."Harsh called Mills' actions heroic and a true godsend. The 78-year-old is still recovering at UC Medical Center. He has heart surgery scheduled for Thursday."Without Jerry we'd be telling a different story," Harsh said.A second chance, the right place at the right time. The power of kindness over competition."Thank God the prayers work and there's people out there in the world like Jerry, I thank him again, me and my family thank him again," Harsh said.

Jerry Mills is a die-hard Bengals fan.Ed Fernandes cheers for the Raiders. Before Saturday, the two were strangers. Now, they share a special bond."I believe God put me there for a reason so that man could have another day of living," Mills said. Mills had just wrapped up an afternoon of tailgating. He was on his way in to Paul Brown Stadium when he saw a Raiders fan on the ground. People in the crowd thought he was having a seizure."I look at him and, "I'm like, 'that doesn't look like a seizure activity.' I look for a pulse, he didn't have a pulse, and I was like, 'I'm going to start CPR right now,'" Mills said. Mills, who is from Cincinnati and a former Covington firefighter, currently works as an emergency room nurse in Dallas."Being a nurse for the past three years, I've always told everybody I work with, 'Look, we're not losing nobody on my shift,'" Mills said. That's how he felt outside PBS Saturday."I'm sitting there telling him, 'I'm not losing you today.' And so, the other nurse was helping and two minutes later, he got a pulse," Mills said. But then Mills said he lost it again. Mills said the other nurse who jumped in to help also acted selflessly."She took the guy's shirt, put it across his face and started to breathe into his mouth," Mills said. The two nurses continued to do what they had to to keep the Raiders fan alive until Cincinnati firefighters arrived. On Tuesday, Mills learned the name of the man he saved, Ed Fernandes of Dayton, who had planned on attending the game with his grandson, Noah.Noah told WLWT that his grandfather is still at UC Medical Center with blockages in his heart. He is scheduled to have surgery Thursday. Fernandes' family said they can't put into words how grateful they are for Mills.

Tailgate prep is a family affair in the Courtney household. It's a tradition that started when the oldest sibling, David Courtney, was a kid, when it was just him and his dad."Down at Riverfront, we would tailgate in the parking garage, just the two of us. Mom would make us whatever. We would eat it and go in and watch the game," David Courtney said. Over the years the family has grown, and Bengal pride has been passed down to the next generations."Everything about the Bengals makes me think of him," said Kelsey Courtney, David Courtney's daughter.Kelsey Courtney is referring to her grandfather, Duane Courtney. This is the first year without the patriarch of the family.Duane Courtney died unexpectedly in his sleep April 30. He was 68 years old."It was the night of the draft, and he passed sometime before the next morning," David Courtney said."He was watching the draft and was very excited when he saw we got (Ja'Marr) Chase. That was one of his last texts to my niece," said Christen Courtney, Duane Courtney's daughter.Knowing his love for the Bengals and the optimism he had for this season, Duane's kids decided to keep his season tickets and save his seat for him. "We salute him, and he's always in our thoughts," David Courtney said. Tomorrow will be no different as they remember how Duane Courtney would love to sit and take it all in."And he'd like to drink his beer during the games. We couldn't keep up with him," Christen Courtney said So, of course, there will be a toast in his honor as he's remembered as a funny family man, a die-hard Bengals fan whose presence will be felt tomorrow."We definitely feel him, and we know he'll be there tomorrow, and hopefully help us bring home a win," Christen Courtney said.

<p>
Two NHL teams have combined to give ice hockey fan Nadia Popovici a $10,000 scholarship for medical school as a thank you for advising Vancouver Canucks assistant equipment manager Brian "Red" Hamilton to get a mole behind his neck checked out.Popovici was sitting behind Hamilton as she watched the Canucks play the Seattle Kraken on Oct. 23. Unsure if Hamilton was aware of the mole, Popovici banged on the glass window to catch his attention and showed him a message she had typed on her phone.Following her advice, Hamilton did get the mole checked out and it proved to be a malignant melanoma, a type of skin cancer. With the Canucks scheduled to play the Kraken in Seattle on Saturday, the Vancouver team posted a message on social media as they tried to track down Popovici so Hamilton could thank her personally."I'm trying to find a very special person and I need the hockey community's help," wrote Hamilton in a social media post."To this woman I am trying to find, you changed my life, and now I want to find you to say THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH."That evening Oct 23rd, and the message you showed me on your cell phone will forever be etched into my brain and has made a true life-changing difference for me and my family."Your instincts were right and that mole on the back of my neck was a malignant melanoma and thanks to your persistence and the quick work of our doctors, it is now gone."'What wonderful news!'It didn't take long for the internet to work its magic as Popovici's mother replied to the Canucks' original Facebook post."This was my daughter!!! We are the season ticket holders for the Kraken who sit behind the visitors bench at the Climate Pledge Arena. This was my daughter's first game and the Canucks have always been my team before the Kraken existed."She noticed the mole on the back of Red's neck and she wasn't sure he knew about it. So she typed the message on her phone and knocked on the glass window to get his attention. He finally looked at the message, nodded and smiled and continued working."She hasn't even seen this message yet as she worked graveyard shift at the suicide crisis center in Seattle so she's still asleep. She'll be shocked to see this message!"She will be at the game tonight in the same seats. She'll be so happy and excited to know he got it checked! What wonderful news!!!! She just got accepted into multiple medical schools!"In a video posted by the Canucks on Facebook, Popovici and Hamilton are shown together in an emotional meeting. Both wearing masks, Popovici asks if Hamilton is OK with shaking hands or hugging, but they quickly opt for the hug given the moment's poignancy.Hamilton explained in the video that when Popovici knocked on the glass and showed him the message on her phone that he initially had been quite taken aback."The next day I woke up," continued Hamilton in the video. "I said to Jess ... 'It was your effort and your persistence ... the way you wrote it on your phone. I owe it to this person to get checked, if she went this far, I don't know her, I don't know anything about her.'"I am fortunate we have doctors on the team who can help," added Hamilton. It was during Saturday's game that a stunned Popovici learned about the $10,000 scholarship award.Vancouver won 5-2, but as the Canucks tweeted a picturing of Hamilton and Popivici together taking a selfie, the tweet's caption said it all: "The biggest win tonight."

Cincinnati is energized around the UC Bearcats as they count the days to the Cotton Bowl in Texas. It's now just about nine days away.On Tuesday, there was an incredible show of support for the football team with a drone show and fireworks at Nippert Stadium. The excitement is also keeping businesses around campus booming.Fans chanted, clapped and rooted for the football Bearcats during the show.It was a phenomenal display in the sky that seemed to send a bit of a warning to Alabama: this team and its fans mean business."We have just been non-stop busy. Extended store hours. Tons of online orders," DuBois Book Store Operations Manager, Ty Bonawitz, said.Counting down the days to the Cotton Bowl and fans are getting geared up for the Bearcats at DuBois Book Store.Bonawitz said as soon as they put out new stuff, it's gone, and they have to restock again."The biggest problem we're having right now is the cotton shortage that we're dealing which is kind of ironic going to the Cotton Bowl," Bonawitz said.Even the dogs are rooting on these cats — well, the book store owner's dog — who wanders around as shoppers pick their next piece of gear.People said they're making a mad dash to get ready for Texas."Roll tide cool, but no, they ain't cool for us. We've got to beat them. We've got to beat them," fan, Jason Stewart, said.Fans have a hearty appetite to see undefeated UC conquer in this historic appearance in the College Football Playoffs.Over at Mio's, Rich Owens knows the team does, too. They fed them on Monday."We had a whiteboard that we had every player on the team sign and then we're going to laminate it. We haven't titled it yet. We're hoping to put national champs on it," Owens said. It's a moment in Bearcat history that will stick with the kids.As the sun went down on Tuesday, there was a bit of an incognito pep rally to "Light Up Nippert Stadium."There were fireworks and there was also a drone show with messages to root on the team."The programming that went into it and the messages up in the sky. They were really neat," fan, Kerri Todd, said.Of course, there were also the signature UC chants to let Alabama know UC means business."I was excited. I was actually up there and he can vouch for me, I was jumping up and down. I was like, 'Oh my God, I can't wait,'" UC employee, Alex Coleman, said.Fans said some people are driving to Texas and booking houses a couple of hours away so that they can still get close.Even still, businesses believe turnout locally will be good.According to officials, more than 150 synchronized drones were used in the show. They also said a video shot at the event will be featured at some point during the Cotton Bowl.

<p>Fans chanted, clapped and rooted for the football Bearcats during the show.</p>
<p>It was a phenomenal display in the sky that seemed to send a bit of a warning to Alabama: this team and its fans mean business.</p>
<p>"We have just been non-stop busy. Extended store hours. Tons of online orders," DuBois Book Store Operations Manager, Ty Bonawitz, said.</p>
<p>Counting down the days to the Cotton Bowl and fans are getting geared up for the Bearcats at DuBois Book Store.</p>
<p>Bonawitz said as soon as they put out new stuff, it's gone, and they have to restock again.</p>
<p>"The biggest problem we're having right now is the cotton shortage that we're dealing which is kind of ironic going to the Cotton Bowl," Bonawitz said.</p>
<p>Even the dogs are rooting on these cats — well, the book store owner's dog — who wanders around as shoppers pick their next piece of gear.</p>
<p>People said they're making a mad dash to get ready for Texas.</p>
<p>"Roll tide cool, but no, they ain't cool for us. We've got to beat them. We've got to beat them," fan, Jason Stewart, said.</p>
<p>Fans have a hearty appetite to see undefeated UC conquer in this historic appearance in the College Football Playoffs.</p>
<p>Over at Mio's, Rich Owens knows the team does, too.</p>
<p>They fed them on Monday.</p>
<p>"We had a whiteboard that we had every player on the team sign and then we're going to laminate it. We haven't titled it yet. We're hoping to put national champs on it," Owens said.</p>
<p>It's a moment in Bearcat history that will stick with the kids.</p>
<p>As the sun went down on Tuesday, there was a bit of an incognito pep rally to "Light Up Nippert Stadium."</p>
<p>There were fireworks and there was also a drone show with messages to root on the team.</p>
<p>"The programming that went into it and the messages up in the sky. They were really neat," fan, Kerri Todd, said.</p>
<p>Of course, there were also the signature UC chants to let Alabama know UC means business.</p>
<p>"I was excited. I was actually up there and he can vouch for me, I was jumping up and down. I was like, 'Oh my God, I can't wait,'" UC employee, Alex Coleman, said.</p>
<p>Fans said some people are driving to Texas and booking houses a couple of hours away so that they can still get close.</p>
<p>Even still, businesses believe turnout locally will be good.</p>
<p>According to officials, more than 150 synchronized drones were used in the show.</p>
<p>They also said a video shot at the event will be featured at some point during the Cotton Bowl.</p>
