One of the faces suiting up for the Cincinnati Bengals on Super Bowl is a Greater Cincinnati product.Jackson Carman is serving as proof to future Fairfield football players that hopes of playing in the NFL really can come true."It's surreal to sit in your living room or wherever you're at and just to watch a kid you got to work with and coach and be so close with on that stage, on that field, in that environment," said Fairfield High School head football coach Jason Krause.Krause started coaching Carman when he was in the seventh grade. The two have formed an unbreakable bond."Couple weeks ago, Monday after one of the games he came over to the house and we grilled out. Had a great time just got to spend a little time decompressing from football," Krause said.Krause now coachES Carman in life and is helping him get ready for the biggest game of his career."He was like, 'Coach, you have no idea how crazy this is right now.' And I don't. There's no way I could put myself in his shoes. I said, 'Enjoy this experience. You got into this game as a little kid because you loved it,'" Krause said.Krause is proud of all Carman has accomplished, including some key moments to help clinch the AFC Championship."To see him have a couple of big blocks on big plays, just to hear his name, hear Tony Romo mention Jackson Carman," he said. The rookie has the full backing of his community.A group of cafeteria workers proudly wear Carman's jersey on Fridays. They're part of the Fairfield faithful who are supporting one of their own."He's got a chance to go play in the Super Bowl. It's just awesome to have a kid that you worked with like that. To see all that hard work pay off and in our profession that's the ultimate," Krause said.

FAIRFIELD, Ohio — The Fairfield Police Department charged a Hamilton man with murder following a shooting early Sunday morning at LugNuts Bar and Grill in Fairfield.

Miguel Galliher was charged in the shooting death of Robert Strong, 44, also of Hamilton.

According to police, Galliher pulled out a gun and started firing, and shot Strong multiple times. Galliher also struck Hailey Vierling, 21, of Hamilton and Jerome Golston, 30, of Lima. Following the shooting, the report said Galliher drove away from the bar and crashed after a brief pursuit with Fairfield police. He was then taken into custody and charged.

The Hamilton County Coroner's Office said Strong died at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Police said Vierling and Golston suffered non-life threatening injuries. Police believe the pair were not directly involved. Galliher remains in custody at the Butler County Jail.

Butler County Prosecutor Michael Gmoser told our media partner, the Hamilton Journal-News, the Fairfield Police Department consulted with him before the arrest. The Journal-News reported Galliher was arraigned Monday morning in Fairfield Municipal Court where a judge ordered him held without bond.

“The matter is scheduled before the grand jury," Gmoser told the Journal-News. "The matter will be taken directly to the grand jury and it has been scheduled.”

NORWOOD, Ohio — The Moeller High School football team scored 28 unanswered points Friday night en route to a 35-7 win over Fairfield in a Division I, Region quarterfinal.

"Just proud of the guys," Moeller coach Mark Elder said. "We came into this season internally we had a lot of high expectations. We knew that we were capable of being a good team. We've done a good job. We just got to keep it rolling."

Moeller (9-3) advances to play Princeton (11-1) in a regional semifinal at a neutral site Nov. 12. It is the first meeting between Moeller and Princeton since Week 1 of 2008.

Princeton (11-1) defeated visiting Sycamore 37-35 Friday night. Princeton senior quarterback Mekhi Lynn threw for 208 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 107 yards and three touchdowns.

Sophomore TJ Engleman had four receptions for 112 yards and a touchdown. Senior linebacker AJ Nunley and senior defensive back Maceo Powell had nine tackles each for the Vikings, who have won eight consecutive games.

Princeton led by 16 with 5:12 left (37-21) but the Aviators mounted a furious comeback and closed the gap to two points with 35 seconds left before Princeton sealed the win.

There was far less drama at Shea Stadium Friday night.

Moeller led 21-0 at halftime Friday night and went up 28-0 after sophomore running back Jordan Marshall scored on a 36-yard touchdown run on the third play of the third quarter.

Marshall had three touchdowns and rushed for 135 yards Friday night.

"He's been phenomenal," Elder said. "He's a really talented young man and he's the best kid in the world."

His 42-yard touchdown from senior quarterback Noah Geselbracht's screen pass helped to give the Crusaders a 21-0 lead at halftime.

"That was a huge play for us obviously because that was right before half to make that a three-score ballgame," Elder said.

Geselbracht was 12-of-18 passing for 168 yards and two touchdowns.

Junior wide receiver Tennel Bryant had four receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown. Geselbracht had 168 passing yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, junior defensive back Matthew Seliga had a team-high six tackles. Junior linebacker Joseph Ginnetti had 5.5 tackles. Senior defensive back Colin Berry and sophomore linebacker Alex French had interceptions.

Friday's Division I regional quarterfinal game between Fairfield and Moeller was be the fourth meeting between the schools and the first game in the series since 2001.

Fairfield had won four consecutive games entering Friday night. Fairfield completed the season with a 6-5 record.

A Spanish teacher in Iowa was found dead in a park near the high school where she taught, and two teens have been charged in her death.Jefferson County Attorney Chauncey Moulding said in a news release that the remains found in Chautauqua Park have been confirmed to be those of Nohema Graber. The Fairfield School District website shows Graber has been teaching Spanish at the school since 2012. She had been reported missing Wednesday.Moulding said agents with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation conducted a preliminary investigation and ruled the death a homicide. Court documents show Graber suffered from an injury to her head, and her body was found under a tarp. A police report states the suspects had items with blood on them. Two teens have been charged in the investigation. Willard Noble Chaiden Miller, 16, and Jeremy Everett Goodale, 16, have been charged with first-degree homicide and first-degree conspiracy to commit homicide."Graber was employed as a Spanish teacher at Fairfield High School, where Miller and Goodale were students. Based on the circumstances and their ages, Miller and Goodale are being criminally charged as adults," Moulding said.Moulding said law enforcement does not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.Miller and Goodale will be making their court appearance on Nov. 12. Both are being held on $1 million cash bonds. Superintendent Dr. Laurie Noll released a statement to families and staff stating the school would not be in session Friday and school counselors and crisis response teams would be available. In the statement Noll said, "We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Mrs. Graber. At this time our students’ and staffs’ well-being is our top priority. As a community, we will remain united in this time of tragedy."

MILFORD, Ohio — Tom Grippa likes to say he was always meant to be a high school football coach. On Friday night, it was his time to be recognized for a special career milestone.

Grippa celebrated his 200th career win as visiting Milford defeated Edgewood 41-14 in a non-league football season opener.

"We've been consistently good wherever I've been – whether it's Elder, Fairfield, La Salle or Milford," Grippa told WCPO.

"I'm really, really proud of my Milford kids because...I took over a program that was terrible and we won right away. The kids bought in. We changed the culture, and that's not always easy to do. It took a little bit of time to change it at Fairfield and here we did it right away."

Grippa, starting his 30th year as a high school head coach, is in his fifth season leading the Milford football program. He has a 200-116 record, according to the Milford athletic department.

RELATED: Sign for our new high school sports newsletter
Join the Cincinnati area high school sports Facebook group

Grippa is the 64th coach in state history to reach 200 wins, according to the Ohio High School Athletic Association record book.

"I'm really proud of the kids and the program," said Grippa, who spent four seasons as the Mount St. Joseph University offensive coordinator prior to Milford.

Grippa is 23-15 at Milford and has led the Eagles to three playoff appearances including the first postseason win in program history in 2017.

“We are so proud to have a legend like Coach Grippa leading our program,” Milford athletic director Aaron Zupka said. “He has led our program to unprecedented heights during his time in Milford and we couldn’t be more excited to have him earn this milestone while leading our Eagles.”

Zupka said Grippa has always connected well with the Milford teams. There are 130-plus players in the Milford program.

"He's a player's coach," Zupka said. "The kids love playing for him. He relates to those kids."

The Eagles, which led 28-7 at halftime Friday, were led by junior quarterback Austin Hardin. He was 16 of 22 passing for 293 yards and four touchdowns.

Grippa was able to celebrate the career milestone win with a banner after the game surrounded by his players. He triumphantly raised the game ball in the locker room beside the team.

"We came home and it was like we won the Super Bowl," Grippa said.

The Eagles (1-0) play host to Lakota East (0-1) Aug. 27.

County, local and federal law enforcement conducted seven drug raids earlier this month, which led to the seizure of 800 grams of fentanyl, 51 pounds of marijuana and $8,000 in cash.

The Butler County Regional Narcotics task force along with the FBI and local police departments conducted the raids during the early morning hours of June 15. They had search warrants for four locations in Hamilton, one in Oxford, one in Fairfield and one in Middletown, according to a release issued Friday from the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

Eddie Collins, 31, aka “Big Unk,” was booked into the Butler County Jail on June 15 on suspicion of possession of controlled substances. He also is being held on federal charges, records show.

Anyone who has information on criminal activity involving Collins is urged to call the FBI Cincinnati office at 513-421-4310.

FAIRFIELD, Ohio — Charitable giving significantly declined during the height of the novel coronavirus pandemic, but donations to a pair of Fairfield charitable organizations appear to be a sign people are ready to give again, officials said.

Over the May 21-23 weekend, Mike’s Car Wash gave away free Ultimate Washes for the opening of the new Kyles Station location in Liberty Twp. In return, customers donated $25,952 to support the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Field.

“This is just a great jump start for us,” said Kim Nuxhall, volunteer CEO of the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields. “We’re all just blown away by this.”

He sees this as a sign of life activities continuing to be available.

“Things are looking up,” Nuxhall said. “Kids are out playing, our adult leagues are starting. Things are looking up, I think.”

Mike’s Car Wash Marketing and Customer Service Director Bethany McAlister said the Nuxhall Miracle League donation was a continuation of what the Indiana-headquartered company did throughout the pandemic.

“Even when the pandemic started, we didn’t stop,” she said. “We continued to do our fundraising initiatives, we continued doing mass marketing events because it’s one of our core focuses. We still feel it’s important to give back to the community because there are organizations that were impacted by COVID.”

Nuxhall said his goal is to manage this year so his crew can “go full bore in 2022.”

“We’re proud to support the Joe Nuxhall Memorial League Fields, where every kid with every challenge gets a chance to play baseball,” said Mike Dahm, CEO of Mike’s Carwash. “The fields are the perfect legacy for the old left-hander, Joe Nuxhall, a true Cincinnati legend.”

Fairfield RollHouse, 5181 Dixie Highway, donated $2,600 to support Dougie and Rays, a charity that helps kids in need within the Fairfield City Schools.
