LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

Ahead of its return in just a couple of weeks, Kentucky State Fair organizers announced that a mask requirement will be in place for indoor activities.

Organizers said in a tweet that the mask policy was issued in the wake of Gov. Andy Beshear's mandate for all state government buildings. The governor said the mask requirement applies to all, vaccinated or not.

According to the Kentucky State Fair, masks will be required indoors during the fair. They will not be needed while visitors are outside.

"We're excited to hold the fair this year and look forward to seeing everyone," organizers said.

The Kentucky State Fair runs Aug. 19-29 at the Expo Center. Last year's fair took place without visitors or entertainment due to COVID-19 concerns. Only competitors and organizers were allowed because strict mandates were still in place at the time.

This is the 117th year of the event. In June, organizers billed this year's fair as the "most affordable fair experience" in more than a decade. Early-bird tickets at $8 per person are still available through Aug. 5.

Admission to the Kentucky State Fair includes the Texas Roadhouse Concert Series, livestock competition, outdoor and indoor entertainment, indoor exhibits, and nine other performance areas.

Organizers have not announced any changed to this year's fair — outside of the new mask policy — amid the ongoing delta variant concerns.
