<p>BOULDER CITY, Nev. — Flames and thick black smoke rose from the Hoover Dam Tuesday</p>
<p>The Bureau of Reclamation said that a transformer caught fire around 10 a.m., and the flames were extinguished 30 minutes later.</p>
<p>Officials say no one was injured.</p>
<p>"There is no risk to the power grid and power is still being generated from the powerhouse," the agency said.</p>
<p>Reports of a possible explosion began circulating on social media after a video showed smoke coming from the dam's base, Scripps' sister station KTNV reported.</p>
<p>Boulder City officials said on their Twitter account that the fire was extinguished before fire crews arrived.</p>

<p>SHEBOYGAN FALLS, Wis. — Logan Mohr is your typical 4-year-old boy. He loves his toys, his trucks, and most importantly, his family. Now, this tiny, but mighty, 4-year-old is being called a hero for saving his mom's life.</p>
<p>"<b></b>By God's grace, he gave me and my husband a son that knew what to do," said Logan's mom, Kayla Mohr.</p>
<p>Kayla Mohr suffers from chronic seizures. She says Logan is no stranger to her episodes and always does what he can to help.</p>
<p>"<b></b>As he got older, we were like okay, when this happens to mommy, go get daddy," she said.</p>
<p>Last month, while Kayla Mohr was getting Logan ready for school, she knew something was off. Her husband was at work. She sat down, called 911, and put the phone on speaker. Minutes later, she began to seize.</p>
<p><b><u>LISTEN to the full 911 phone call: </u></b></p>
<p><span class="VideoEnhancement" data-video-disable-history=""></p>
<p>Sheboygan Falls 4-year-old calls 911, saves mom suffering from seizure</p>
<p></span></p>
<p>Dispatcher: "911, what's the address of your emergency? Hello?"<br />Logan: "My mommy is having an episode."</p>
<p>It was the first time she heard the 911 recording between the dispatcher and her son, who could let emergency officials know what was happening.</p>
<p>Logan: "She's shaking her head and her legs."<br />Dispatcher: "Okay, is she able to talk to me on the phone?"<br />Logan: "No."<br />Dispatcher: "Do you know if that's called a seizure?"<br />Logan: "Yeah."</p>
<p>"<b></b>I was feeling brave," said Logan.</p>
<p>Logan stayed on the phone until paramedics arrived and Kayla Mohr was able to get the help she needed.</p>
<p>"You can't train a kid to just do that," said Kayla Mohr. "It was just instinct."</p>
<p>Logan received a life-saving certificate and two medals from the Sheboygan County Sheriff's office for his bravery. An honor fit for a hero.</p>
<p>"He's my little superman," said Kayla Mohr.</p>

at just a week old. Adeline Clarkin already has quite the story to tell. Not to be graphic, but she was coming. There was no waiting. It was last saturday when Jill and john called 911 after realizing Adeline was ready to enter this world sooner than they expected. There was a pretty urgent need to get some help because we weren't going anywhere on the other line was Megan by barrels of fort Collins 911 dispatcher. I honestly didn't think we'd get all the way through it because again, that doesn't usually happen in most cases the fire department arrives in minutes and helps with the delivery, but the engine closest to the Clarkin's was tied up and Megan had to step in using her years of knowledge. I wasn't too nervous until The dad was like, Oh boy, you know she's coming. It was just a very calming voice, which I think it turned made me I mean if she would've been freaking out, I think I would've been freaking out. Megan helped guide the two as Joel gave birth to baby Adeline in a bathroom at her home and anxiously waited for her first breath. I think it was about 10 seconds that and we could hear her crying so I knew everything was okay. Jill john brother Jacob and baby addie. We're all doing okay. Having learned life is unpredictable, no matter how much planning you do. She's £6.02 ounces and she's 19 inches long, she's just tiny, tiny little thing with a full head of hair and for the first time in Megan's 10 year career here, thank you. You did so good. She got to see a call like this all the way through. This is john meet the people on the other line. It really is so special they are. I'll remember it forever and she's prepared to do it again. It may never happen again in my career, but it was really special.

"I honestly didn't think we'd get all the way through it," Biberos said. "Because again, that doesn't usually happen."In most cases, the fire department arrives in minutes and helps with the delivery. "It was just a very calming voice, which I think in turn made me calm," John Clarken said. "I mean, if she would have been freaking out, I think I would have been freaking out."Watch the video above for more on this story.

<p>CELEBRATION, Fla. — Almost half of the people who receive CPR, 45%, received it from a bystander. That’s why kids at one Florida high school are learning it.</p>
<p>Students at Celebration High School are getting a crash course in saving lives.</p>
<p>“As soon as the video is over, I’m going to explain to them what we are doing with the dummies and how they are doing CPR and how we’re checking them,” said Rokaia Collison, a teacher leading the training. </p>
<p>A new law in Florida now requires 9th and 11th graders to learn the lifesaving technique.</p>
<p>According to the American Heart Association, Florida is the 39th state where CPR training is mandatory.</p>
<p>“Learning hands-only CPR teaches them skills outside of a high school setting and as they grow older, should they experience somebody experiencing out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, they might be able to assist them,” said Michelle Turnage with the American Heart Association. </p>
<p>Natasha Alejandro is a junior at Celebration High School. We followed her through the process of learning CPR.</p>
<p>She and her classmates got in line and when it was their turn, they stepped up to the dummies.</p>
<p>"It doesn’t seem hard, but I feel like if I was doing it to a real person, I’m not doing anything because I can’t feel the clicking,” she said. </p>
<p>It’s not a real-life experience, but now Alejandro and hundreds of other students have a little more know-how should they need it.</p>
<p>“Conditioning always conditions you for the main event, so I guess learning this beforehand does condition you to any certain event,” said Alejandro. </p>
<p>It’s a real-world skill that students like Brandon Gonzales are happy to have. He’s a funny kid, but he knows this is serious.</p>
<p>“That’s a life, got to save everyone, because everyone is equal,” he said.</p>
<p>You never know when you might be able to save a life</p>
<p>“He died on the gym floor and while we can’t say what the outcome would have been, he had absolutely no chance at survival in his situation when there’s no CPR and no AED used, then you have no chance," said Kristin Cobb Simpson.</p>
<p>She lost her nephew, Burke, in 2012 after he collapsed during a pickup basketball game. Burke had an enlarged heart and went into cardiac arrest.</p>
<p>Despite his condition, the family believes if CPR had been initiated, there’s a good chance Burke could have survived. In 2014, they lobbied the Louisiana legislature to pass the Burke Cobb Act, requiring all Louisiana high school students to learn CPR.</p>
<p>“Even that situation that Burke was in, those 20 to 25 friends could be potential lifesavers,” said Cobb Simpson. </p>
<p>The kids we spoke with in Celebration are happy about the new law in Florida.</p>
<p>“Enforcing this does give us a positive outlook when it comes to certain situations like this. Hey, I do know how to do this, hey I can be useful. Even if we called 911, it takes a while to get here,” said Alejandro. </p>
<p>While they’re waiting for professionals to arrive, kids in Celebration, and across the country will have the skills to help save a life.</p>

Doctors said more vaccines could soon be weapons in the fight against COVID-19.The AstraZeneca vaccine is still being carefully studied at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, but it has just been given authorization in the United Kingdom and officials expect to see applications for emergency use in the United States in the next month or so.Medical experts said AstraZeneca's vaccine could come just in time. They believe it will be more than capable of defending people against the latest mutation of COVID-19 and it appears to have few side effects."I think we soon are going to have four vaccines that look very effective," Dr. Robert Frenck said.Frenck, professor of pediatrics in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, shared words of hope.He expects an application for emergency use authorization could be weeks away for the Oxford University, AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. It's now authorized in the United Kingdom.Frenck has been studying the two-dose vaccine at Cincinnati Children's Hospital."For both the Pfizer and Moderna, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the exact same thing for Janssen and Astra-Zeneca, is that the vaccine has shown equal efficacy across the ages, and regardless of your race, regardless of your gender," he said.Frenck said 502 people in Greater Cincinnati have volunteered in the trial. He said side effects have ranged from nothing to headache, fatigue and muscle aches and those faded. As a more infectious variant of COVID-19 has surfaced in the United States, Frenck said viruses normally mutate. The AstraZeneca vaccine uses a weakened version of the common cold virus and he thinks it will work against the mutation."It's not really worrying me that much, as far as that the spike protein is what we're having this target for our vaccine and that still looks pretty much conserved," Frenck said.AstraZeneca's vaccine is receiving praise for only requiring refrigeration which makes it easier to distribute.Company leaders have said they believe the vaccine will prove as effective as its rivals. With the Phase 3 trial nearly complete, Frenck anticipates a safe AstraZeneca vaccine will soon be added to the arsenal to protect you."To me the biggest travesty, the biggest horror is that we have vaccines and then people don't get them and then people die that could've been saved," he said.Frenck expects the Johnson and Johnson Janssen vaccine will also be up for emergency use consideration by mid-to-late January. It's important to note that during the AstraZeneca trial, there were some dosing issues and it is not clear if that will impact the EUA process.Frenck said timing for the AstraZeneca vaccine will likely be similar to the other vaccines, with a first vaccine given and a second given about four weeks later. That's to be seen once federal officials receive an application for emergency use and review the data.

Debris from a United Airlines plane fell onto Denver suburbs during an emergency landing Saturday after one of its engines suffered a catastrophic failure and rained pieces of the engine casing on a neighborhood where it narrowly missed a home. The plane landed safely, and nobody aboard or on the ground was reported hurt, authorities said. The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement that the Boeing 777-200 returned to the Denver International Airport after experiencing a right-engine failure shortly after takeoff. Flight 328 was flying from Denver to Honolulu when the incident occurred, the agency said.Photos posted by the police department showed large, circular pieces of debris leaning against a house in the suburb about 25 miles north of Denver.Passengers recounted a terrifying ordeal that began to unfold shortly after the plane full of vacationers took off.The aircraft was almost at cruising altitude and the captain was giving an announcement over the intercom when a large explosion rocked the cabin, accompanied by a bright flash.“The plane started shaking violently, and we lost altitude and we started going down,” said David Delucia, who was sitting directly across the aisle from the side with the failed engine. “When it initially happened, I thought we were done. I thought we were going down."Delucia and his wife took their wallets containing their driver's licenses and put them in their pockets so that “in case we did go down, we could be ID'd," said Delucia, who was still shaken up as he waited to board another flight for Honolulu.Tyler Thal, who lives in the area, told The Associated Press that he was out for a walk with his family when he noticed a large commercial plane flying unusually low and took out his phone to film it.“While I was looking at it, I saw an explosion and then the cloud of smoke and some debris falling from it. It was just like a speck in the sky and as I’m watching that, I’m telling my family what I just saw and then we heard the explosion,” he said in a phone interview. “The plane just kind of continued on and we didn’t see it after that.”Thal was relieved to learn later that the plane had made a safe landing.United said in a separate statement that there were 231 passengers and 10 crew on board. All passengers were to be rebooked on a new flight to Hawaii, the airline said.Video posted on Twitter showed the engine fully engulfed in flames as the plane flew through the air.Kirby Klements was inside with his wife when they heard a huge booming sound, he said. A few seconds later, the couple saw a massive piece of debris fly past their window and into the bed of Klements' truck, crushing the cab and pushing the vehicle into the dirt.He estimated the circular engine cowling at 15 feet in diameter. Fine pieces of the fiberglass insulation used in the airplane engine fell from the sky “like ash” for about 10 minutes, he said, and several large chunks of insulation landed in his backyard.“If it had been 10 feet different, it would have landed right on top of the house,” he said in a phone interview with the AP. “And if anyone had been in the truck, they would have been dead.”The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.Aviation safety experts said the plane appeared to have suffered an uncontained and catastrophic engine failure. Such an event is extremely rare and happens when huge spinning discs inside the engine suffer some sort of failure and breach the armored casing around the engine that is designed to contain the damage, said John Cox, an aviation safety expert and retired airline pilot who runs an aviation safety consulting firm called Safety Operating Systems.“That unbalanced disk has a lot of force in it, and it’s spinning at several thousand rotations per minute ... and when you have that much centrifugal force, it has to go somewhere,” he said in a phone interview.Pilots practice how to deal with such an event frequently and would have immediately shut off anything flammable in the engine, including fuel and hydraulic fluid, using a single switch, Cox said.Former NTSB Chairman Jim Hall called the incident another example of “cracks in our culture in aviation safety (that) need to be addressed.Hall, who was on the board from 1994 to 2001, has criticized the FAA over the past decade as “drifting toward letting the manufacturers provide the aviation oversight that the public was paying for.” That goes especially for Boeing, he said.Despite the scary appearance of a flaming engine, most such incidents don't result in loss of life, Cox said.

<p>CLEVELAND, Ohio — The digital divide in Ohio has been an issue for years. Now, it's escalating.</p>
<p>“We believe this is an economic issue,” said Angie Cooper, Chief Program Officer at Heartland Forward.</p>
<p>Right now, more than 1.4 million Ohioans don’t have internet service and 29% of Ohio K-12 students don't have adequate access, which may be causing a long-term domino effect across communities.</p>
<p>“Not having affordable high-speed Internet access is impactful to not just students, it's impactful to our workforce. It's impactful to our health care. We saw that even while people were signing up for vaccinations. If you didn't have access to get online these things became very, very challenging,” Cooper explained.</p>
<p>But state leaders are taking a step towards change by partnering with the FF and the nonprofit Heartland Forward. Together they're launching a $3.2 billion Emergency Broadband Benefit program, which is a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) program. If you qualify, can get up to $50 off broadband service in your area and up to $100 to help buy a computer or tablet to allow access at home.</p>
<p>However, the program will not be sticking around for long. The benefits are set to expire when funds run out or six months after the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services declares an end to the pandemic.</p>
<p>“Once funds run out, the emergency broadband benefit program will not be available. Those dollars will not be available to households,” Cooper said. “That's why it's so important. This was passed during COVID and it's so important for people to be aware that there's money out there for them to receive.”</p>
<p>So far 2.3 million households have signed up nationwide. Yet, we're told the numbers in Ohio are missing the mark.</p>
<p>“The numbers in Ohio still need to be increased,” said Cooper.</p>
<p>Cooper says the program is simply a temporary fix giving hope as the state looks for something permanent.</p>
<p>“Heartland Forward will be working over the months and years with state leaders and with the federal government to ensure that there are permanent solutions put in place.”</p>
<p><b>Do I qualify?</b></p>
<p>A household is eligible for the program if one member of the household meets at least one of the<b> </b>following criteria:</p>
<ul>
<li><i>Has an income that is at or below 135 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines or participates in certain assistance programs, such as SNAP, Medicaid or the FCC’s Lifeline program;</i></li>
<li><i>Approved to receive benefits under the free and reduced-price school lunch or breakfast program;</i></li>
<li><i>Received a Federal Pell Grant during the current award year;</i></li>
<li><i>Experienced a substantial loss of income through job loss or furlough since Feb. 29, 2020; or</i></li>
<li><i> Meets the eligibility criteria for a participating provider’s existing low-income or COVID-19 program</i></li>
</ul>
<p><b>How do I apply?</b></p>
<p>Those eligible can enroll in the program in several different ways.</p>
<p>If you do not have access to the internet, you can sign up through a participating broadband provider or by calling (833) 511-0311 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. any day of the week to request a mail-in application and more information about the program.</p>
<p>If you shave access to the internet, they can apply online by clicking <b><a class="Link" href="https://getemergencybroadband.org/">here</a></b>. </p>
<p>For more information about EBB, click <b><a class="Link" href="https://www.fcc.gov/broadbandbenefit">here</a></b>. </p>
<p>If you need help with the application process you can also call the RemotEDx Connectivity Champions at (844) K12-OHIO or click <b><a class="Link" href="https://www.ohio-k12.help/remotedx/connectivity-champions/">here</a></b>.</p>

Pennsylvania police Officer Kristin Mitrisin was driving through the city of Pittsburgh on Saturday to take drugs collected during her department's drug take-back event to a facility when a father began flagging her down in traffic. "I heard beeping next to me. I looked over to the side, I saw a gentleman waving in his car," said Mitrisin. "I put down my window and I asked him 'Sir, do you need help with something?' He said 'Yes, I need you to get me to the hospital my baby is not breathing.'"Mitrisin said it took a second to register what he had just said."I said 'Sir, did you just say your baby is not breathing,' and he said 'Yes, my baby is not breathing' and I said 'You need to pull over right here. I have to help you here,'" said Mitrisin.Mitrisin said she performed CPR on the tailgate of the police pickup truck that she was only driving to transport boxes, in a community where she wouldn't typically be. "The baby finally took a gasp for air after about a minute of CPR," Mitrisin said. The officer said after a few more rounds of CPR, the baby, Olivia, began to cry. Mitrisin said the paramedics were still minutes away, but a new nearby emergency room was just seconds away. "I put the mother and the baby right in the police car we went right there. We were there in 20 seconds," said Mitrisn. "I took the baby from the mother and ran it into the doctors."According to the GoFundMe set up for Olivia's family, the doctors found the baby girl was living with a heart condition. "I just ask everyone to pray for the baby I hope she's able to make a strong recovery," said Mitrisin. "I'm just thankful I was there to help them on that day."
