Five members of an Amish family are recovering after a driver crashed into their buggy Saturday afternoon in Missouri. Truman Gingerich, 38, and his wife Ada Gingerich, 33, were returning from a church service with three of their six children, three daughters ages three, five and seven.According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 71-year-old driver of a 2003 Mercury struck the rear of the Gingerich buggy. All five members of the Gingerich Family were taken to area hospitals. They’ve all been released except the 5-year-old girl. "The Lord was looking out for them because they shouldn’t be here," said Dan Atkinson.Atkinson is a friend and neighbor of the Gingerich family and was one of the first people to arrive at the crash site. The broken pieces of the buggy are lined up against a fence on the Gingerich property."I looked for it. I realized when I saw the broken wheels everywhere that the pieces of the buggy were all over the highway," Atkinson said.Truman Gingerich later told Atkinson the real horror of the crash, wondering if his daughters would survive."He said, Dan, you don’t understand how hard it was when I looked up, and I tried to get up, and I could see my little girls lying in the highway, and they were lifeless," Atkinson said. "And he tried to get to them, and he was trying to get up off the ground, and when he got to them, he said he couldn’t get them to wake up or nothing,"Atkinson spent part of Tuesday with extended Gingerich family members taking a buggy to be repaired for Truman’s family to use.The family horse also had to be put down at the crash site due to injuries.Residents of the Holden community have been rallying around the Gingerich Family, including providing them with meals and raising money to help with medical expenses. The Missouri State Highway Patrol cited the driver for careless and imprudent driving. The case has not yet been referred to the Johnson County Prosecutor for possible criminal charges.

Three people were killed after a wrong-way crash early Monday morning on Interstate 65 in southern Indiana, investigators said. The crash was reported around 12:30 a.m. Monday on the interstate in southern Jackson County, according to Indiana State Police.Investigators have since determined that 25-year-old Kaitlyn N. Schindler, of Marysville, was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of I-65 near the 39 mile-marker. State police have not determined what caused Schindler to drive the wrong way.Schindler's 2019 Jeep Compass struck a gray 2015 Dodge Durango, driven by 26-year-old Chelsea Jo Boston, of Columbus, head-on in the northbound lanes.Schindler and Boston died from their injuries in the crash, state police said. Also in Boston's car were 21-year-old Tapanga Eudy, of Columbus, and Dai Von T. Coram, also of Columbus. Eudy was in the back seat and died at the scene.Coram was air-lifted to UofL Hospital, where she has since been released.Detectives said it's unknown if alcohol and/or drugs played a role in the crash. Toxicology results are pending and the crash remains under investigation.Officials said the families of all those who died have been notified. The crash site was closed for hours Monday as state police investigated.Additional details were not released.

Five family members from Owen County are dead, after investigators said a wrong-way driver hit them head-on on I-75.The crash happened Saturday afternoon, just south of Exit 104 in Lexington, according to investigators. Now, loved ones are dealing with an unbelievable loss.Family and friends are devastated.A mother and several young children are dead, and a father who was not in the car with them, is the only one left alive."It's very, very hard, and the mere number, five at once, is very hard to handle," Trish Bryant said.It is tough to understand how a midday drive turned into tragedy on I-75.For Bryant, the scene is where her adopted daughter, Catherine Greene, and two grandsons and two granddaughters lost their lives."She loved her children. She would do anything for those children, and you never, ever, ever heard the word stepchild in her home. Her two daughters were from her husband and they were her bonus daughters," Bryant said. She said the love of Catherine's life, her husband, Jon Greene, wasn't in the car. He's the only one still alive in their blended family, full of love.Lexington police were called to the 104 mile-marker on I-75 just before 12:30 p.m. Saturday for a car driving southbound in the northbound lanes.Investigators said Jamaica Caudill, 38, drove a Nissan head-on into the Owen County family's Toyota.Caudill died."They've had a 10-46 fatality involving children. They still have children entrapped in vehicles," a dispatcher said in Kentucky State Police radio traffic.Police said Catherine, 30, Santanna, 11, Karmen, 9, Brayden, 5, and Jack, 2, also died.Traffic was backed up for hours.Krista Larmore, from Celina, Ohio, said she, her husband, their 2-year-old and 5-month-old narrowly missed the Nissan as they were driving home from Florida."It could've been us. It could've been. It just wasn't, you know, and we definitely had some guardian angels on our side," Larmore said.As police dig into how and why this crash happened, there's a father in immeasurable pain."It was difficult coming home because he didn't have the kids running to greet him or his wife to greet him too and he just missed all the noise," Bryant said.A priest in the Lexington area happened upon the scene and prayed for the victims. He said he will be taking charge of making arrangements with the funeral home to help ease the family's financial burden.According to the McDonald and New Funeral Home in Owenton, service information is expected to be updated on Monday. Sharonville police said an Amazon driver was attacked by a pit bull while delivering packages on Wednesday. The driver who was attacked said the woman walking the dog took off with the dog. Now, the driver's arm is bandaged up and she is off the job recovering.Sharonville police are investigating what happened, but the driver said one thing is clear: the dog needs a different environment."I was in shock that a dog ran up on me because, like, I deliver every day to houses that do have dogs," Asia Turnbow said. Many days are delivery day for Turnbow. Most would say she is a welcome sight with Amazon packages in hand and a big smile on her face. But her day on Wednesday, would drive all of us to tears."Basically, the gash is probably like this big and this wide," Turnbow said as she described an area where she was bitten. She said a gray pit bull being walked bit her while she made deliveries at Waterstone Place Apartments in Sharonville at about 3:30 p.m."As I'm walking by, I'm like, 'Oh your dog is cute' and I kept walking and next thing you know, the dog ran up and attacked my shirt. So, I thought it was just my shirt that it ripped. Until I realized that it was bleeding," Turnbow said.Turnbow loves dogs and has two herself. But she said this dog was aggressive, pulling a harness and a woman walking it."He was about 150 pounds. He was a big dog. My dog is 110 and he was bigger than her," Turnbow said. She said the woman took off with the dog.Turnbow said she called for help and then walked to the front office alone and hurt."I went to the hospital. Spent probably three to four hours there, of them trying to figure out what to do next with it because the way it is, it's not repairable," Turnbow said. She said she's worked for Amazon more than a year handling thousands of packages. She's never been bitten."If you can't control your dog, then you shouldn't have the dog," Turnbow said. Now, Turnbow said she is too hurt to work and frustrated the woman left without hesitation."That could have been a small dog or even a child it could have bit instead of me," she said.A representative from the apartment complex said they've identified the tenant responsible and they have reported them to the police. They also said the tenant was apparently supposed to be dog-sitting, but left town, and someone else was dog-sitting.The representative said the dog is not allowed and the tenant has a short amount of time to get rid of the dog or they will be evicted. So far, Sharonville police have said the investigation is ongoing. It does not appear anyone has been charged or cited.Turnbow said she is hopeful the dog owner will be held responsible, not the dog.
