Asa Hutchinson wrote on Twitter. The state had a record net increase of 103 coronavirus patients in hospitals across the state Monday. That brought Arkansas to a new record of current people hospitalized with COVID-19, with 1,376.The previous one-day record of 81 was set Aug. 2. The previous record of people currently hospitalized was 1,371, set on Jan. 11.Monday's numbers come as Arkansas struggles to contain the surge of the delta variant.Hospitals in Fort Smith and Northwest Arkansas are nearing capacity. "It's emotionally draining, physically draining for all the nurses that are in here," said Debbie Hewett, a registered nurse with Mercy Fort Smith. "We're just blowing up numbers. Our COVID positive tests are growing at every day. And that's frightening. We have here, not the cure, but we have a way to stop it with the vaccine."
