<p>Crime scene tape did not stop a food delivery robot in Los Angeles from getting where it needed to be on Monday.</p>
<p>The Los Angeles Police Department had set up the tape at a suspected shooting at a high school, which later turned out to be a hoax, USA Today and "Today" reported.</p>
<p>According to the news outlets, the robot rolled down a sidewalk when it stopped at an intersection before the crime scene. </p>
<p>When it got to the police tape, it seemed to contemplate what to do until what appeared to be a TV cameraman lifted up the tape, and the robot continued on its way, the media outlets reported.</p>
<p>Officers looked a bit confused as it passed by them, the news outlets reported.</p>
<p>According to the news outlets, officers were called to Hollywood High School around 9:45 a.m. for reported shots fired call, USA Today reported.</p>
<p>The newspaper reported that Los Angeles School District's Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho later tweeted that officers had determined the call was a hoax.</p>

A 7-Eleven employee in Oregon went above and beyond her job description recently when she helped deliver a baby during her shift. Around 3 a.m. on Sept. 6, Karin Warren said a man asked for help calling 911 because his wife was in labor. The situation that followed was caught on the convenience store's surveillance camera.Warren told KEZI that after she called 911, she went to be with the expectant mother until an ambulance arrived. "That's when she stuck her legs up on my shoulders and I was like, 'woah, OK,'" Warren said. Warren said she went into "mama mode" and helped the woman through what happened next — the arrival of her newborn son. "I always wanted to see a baby be born other than mine," Warren said. "It was incredible."The parents Warren helped were originally from California and trying to find the closest hospital. They were so grateful for her help in a stressful situation that they made Warren the child's godmother.Watch the video above to see the whole situation unfold.

<p>Popular grocery delivery company Instacart is giving customers more access to features used by its gig workers allowing for better product search and self-checkout options. </p>
<p>The company says that shoppers will now be able to enjoy more features with "connected stores," including access to a rolling smart cart that will offer support for ordering fresh foods, creating lists, a better search feature, and self-checkout options, <a class="Link" href="https://www.theverge.com/2022/9/19/23354775/instacart-caper-cart-grocery-shopping-delivery-ai" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Verge reported</a>. </p>
<p>The "Caper Cart" feature detects what items in a list are placed in a cart and checks them off the list in the app. </p>
<p>A self-checkout feature will also be available, with exceptions. The previous version allowed for self-checkout at select Kroger stores, so customers did not have to wait in line. </p>
<p>New carts can hold 65 percent more products, the company says. New carts in-store also charge by being stacked instead of needing to have batteries changed. Customers will also be able to pay in the app. </p>
<p>Analysts say the new move goes against the service's delivery feature, but demand for online delivery has been dropping after the pandemic. </p>
<p>The company is hoping that customers will want to pick up their grocery orders, with the option to add on products they may have remembered as they arrive to the store. </p>

at just a week old. Adeline Clarkin already has quite the story to tell. Not to be graphic, but she was coming. There was no waiting. It was last saturday when Jill and john called 911 after realizing Adeline was ready to enter this world sooner than they expected. There was a pretty urgent need to get some help because we weren't going anywhere on the other line was Megan by barrels of fort Collins 911 dispatcher. I honestly didn't think we'd get all the way through it because again, that doesn't usually happen in most cases the fire department arrives in minutes and helps with the delivery, but the engine closest to the Clarkin's was tied up and Megan had to step in using her years of knowledge. I wasn't too nervous until The dad was like, Oh boy, you know she's coming. It was just a very calming voice, which I think it turned made me I mean if she would've been freaking out, I think I would've been freaking out. Megan helped guide the two as Joel gave birth to baby Adeline in a bathroom at her home and anxiously waited for her first breath. I think it was about 10 seconds that and we could hear her crying so I knew everything was okay. Jill john brother Jacob and baby addie. We're all doing okay. Having learned life is unpredictable, no matter how much planning you do. She's £6.02 ounces and she's 19 inches long, she's just tiny, tiny little thing with a full head of hair and for the first time in Megan's 10 year career here, thank you. You did so good. She got to see a call like this all the way through. This is john meet the people on the other line. It really is so special they are. I'll remember it forever and she's prepared to do it again. It may never happen again in my career, but it was really special.

At just a week old, Addalyn Clarken already has quite the story to tell."Not to be graphic, but she was coming," Jill Clarken, Addalyn's mother, said. "There was no waiting."It was last Saturday when Jill Clarken and her husband, John, called 911 after realizing Addalyn was ready to come out sooner than they expected."There was a pretty urgent need to get some help because we weren't going anywhere," Jill said.On the other line was Megan Biberos, a Fort Collins, Colorado, 911 dispatcher. "I honestly didn't think we'd get all the way through it," Biberos said. "Because again, that doesn't usually happen."In most cases, the fire department arrives in minutes and helps with the delivery. But the engine closest to the Clarkens was tied up and Biberos had to step in using her years of knowledge."I wasn't too nervous until the dad kind of was like, 'Oh, boy, it's, you know, it's—she's coming," Biberos said. "It was just a very calming voice, which I think in turn made me calm," John Clarken said. "I mean, if she would have been freaking out, I think I would have been freaking out."Watch the video above for more on this story.

<p>DENVER, Co. — Sean Holland has driven the same route for work every day for more than 20 years. He says it hasn't gotten boring yet.</p>
<p>"It's not your 9 to 5 job," Holland said. "If that's what you're looking for, this isn't it."</p>
<p>Holland is a UPS driver in suburban Denver. He took the job in the early '90s, and since 1995, he's been driving the same truck: Bertha.</p>
<p>"I've had her, next month, it will be 26 years," Holland said. "The old girl, she comes out full to the gills every day. I get rid of all that, and then we do another pickup run in the afternoon and fill it back up. There's a sense of accomplishment that goes along with that."</p>
<p>Holland and delivery drivers across the country were deemed essential workers at the height of the pandemic. Stay-at-home orders forced people to use delivery services at a higher rate. U.S. parcel volume went up 37% from 2019 to 2020.</p>
<p>UPS is hiring 100,000 seasonal workers this year to keep up with the demand as the holidays approach. But they are competing with other major companies in nearly every industry.</p>
<p>"We have a very robust recruiting approach," said Jeff Bloedorn, director of human resources at UPS. "We are heavily into the social media and making people aware of what UPS offers."</p>
<p>The company is starting some new hires at $23 an hour, with a $2,000 signing bonus. Bloedorn says there are other incentives, many of which can't be measured with dollars and cents.</p>
<p>"It’s a great teamwork atmosphere," Bloedorn said. "[People] like the hustle and bustle of moving all the packages... It’s a career that allows a person to take care of themselves and their family."</p>
<p>The pandemic has shifted a younger generation's opinion of work. A UPS survey found 9 in 10 millennials are "more open" to the types of jobs they'd accept.</p>
<p>But experts warn the life of a truck driver is still a difficult sell.</p>
<p>"I always ask my students this," said Dr. Robert Novack, a professor at Penn State University. "'How many of you would like to grow up and be a truck driver?' None of 'em."</p>
<p>Dr. Novack says the under-35 crowd is looking for fulfillment and purpose from a potential career. That can be tough to find from the driver's seat of a delivery truck.</p>
<p>"You see the rigs on the road, and as a car driver, they're an annoyance because they're big, they get in the way," Dr. Novack said. "We're working with some companies on trying to make the job of being a driver a little bit more suited to their needs. You know, treating them almost like an asset."</p>
<p>Holland agrees that the job can be tough. </p>
<p>"It's long hours, but like I said, it's rewarding," he said.</p>
<p>"I actually met my wife on my route out here," Holland said. "She was one of my customers for a couple years before we started dating, and ultimately got married, and now we’re married 21 years. You know, I've had dead-end jobs. And, yeah, I've been doing the same thing for almost 29 years now."</p>
<p>Holland smiled. </p>
<p>"But I love it."</p>

<p>
The Virginia Democratic Party filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Postal Service on Friday, alleging local branches failed to deliver and process election-related material ahead of its high stakes gubernatorial race, thereby "threatening to disenfranchise thousands of Virginia voters."The organization says delays in election-related mail across Albemarle County, which includes the city of Charlottesville, James City County, which is adjacent to Williamsburg, and the area of Portsmouth near Norfolk, are "particularly egregious," according to the lawsuit.Friday's lawsuit was filed less than two weeks before the closely watched governor's race between Terry McAuliffe and Glenn Youngkin. Democrats are hoping to hold onto the governor's mansion and maintain control of the state legislature, while Youngkin seeks to be Virginia's first Republican to win a statewide election since 2009."Thousands of ballots delivered to postal facilities by the general registrars weeks ago are still outstanding and, weeks later, have not yet even been scanned into USPS's system. Even if these voters do eventually receive their ballots before Election Day, the slowdowns promise that they will not have sufficient time to send them back with assurance that they will arrive in time to be counted," the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court says."And even if a ballot reaches the appropriate election official before the receipt deadline, if the official identifies any issues with it that require remediation before it may be counted, the voter will have run out of time to rectify the problem."Voters across Virginia had until 5 p.m, ET, Friday to request a mail-in ballot to be sent to them to cast a vote in the Nov. 2 election, according to the state's Department of Elections. The USPS on Saturday morning confirmed receipt of CNN's request for comment.CNN has requested data from the Virginia Department of Elections as well as comment from the Republican Party of Virginia.USPS, under Postmaster General Louis DeJoy's leadership, recently implemented new service standards that include longer first-class mail delivery times and cuts to post office hours. The changes were part of DeJoy's 10-year plan to help the embattled agency be more competitive and improve its financial situation.Virginia joined 20 other states in suing USPS last year, pushing back on the agency's changes that disrupted mail delivery across the country and triggered accusations that former President Donald Trump and his appointees were trying to undermine mail-in voting. In its lawsuit, the Virginia Democratic Party said the thousands of unscanned ballots in the three counties as of Tuesday make up more than a quarter of all ballots voters requested, based on Virginia Department of Elections data. The lawsuit also said that the average percentage of unscanned ballots across the state was 10% — more than 25,000 ballots issued to voters — as of Tuesday. In the last Virginia governor race in 2017, Albemarle County and Portsmouth went to Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam, while his GOP opponent Ed Gillespie narrowly won James City County. The three counties, which the Virginia Democratic Party allege are experiencing significant delays, all voted for President Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election, with a slim victory for Biden in James City County.

A mother is back home in Texas after a long battle with COVID-19 in an Oklahoma City intensive care unit.Devisha Long credits her nurses for getting her home. But, she said, it has been a long journey. She was flown by helicopter from Dallas to OKC. She was placed in a medically-induced coma at Integris Baptist Medical Center and was in this condition for nearly a month. She became a mother during her hospital stay.“I surprised them. Oh, man, they were so excited,” she said. “You know, everybody was happy.”Long survived COVID-19 thanks to the innovative extracorporeal membrane oxygenation treatment. This week, she finally returned home to her family in Dallas. Her nurses watched the tender moment while huddled around an iPhone. “It was freaking awesome! I got chills. I cried, and I don’t cry. It was a breath of fresh air,” the nurses said. Their former patient hugged her sweet daughters for the first time in months. While Long was in a coma, Nurse Manager Rebecca Mitchell said she was very sick and was pregnant.“And then they had to do an emergency C-section before she came to us,” Mitchell said. “When I finally woke up, the only way I knew I wasn't pregnant is because one of the nurses from the other hospital had made a collage of the baby, and I seen him line up on the wall, and I looked and I was like, That's my baby,” Long said. She eventually woke up from her coma, holding her baby girl.“When I first held her and I was like, I can't believe, you know, this is you,” she said. For the nurse team at Integris, they’ve been running nonstop, experiencing tragedy treating COVID-19 patients. “It truly has been a hellacious year. I've seen more death. This just this past year than I have in the 10 years I've been a nurse,” Mitchell said. But this brief moment offered a change from the sad realities of the COVID-19 pandemic.“We all cried. I think we all teared up, because just that those are those moments that you, you need to kind of help rebuild to remind you why we do what we do,” she said. They remember why they continue their work.“Thank you for your positivity, thank you for encouraging me. You really helped me to remain strong,” Long said. “Even in the dark times of me being alone, y'all really did an amazing job and I just want to tell you how to continue to do the same because you're touching lives and making a difference."Long is still recovering from COVID-19, going to appointments in Dallas. As for her newborn, she’s at a Dallas hospital until she can come home.

<p>The way we eat and how we order food has changed due to the pandemic. And one day, your favorite restaurant could be a place you’ve never actually been to.</p>
<p>It’s the concept of a ghost kitchen, or virtual kitchen.</p>
<p>“It does not have a storefront, and does not have public access,” said Hudson Riehle, Senior VP of Research for the National Restaurant Association. “These are food preparation areas that function like a traditional restaurant kitchen in many ways, but they were not set up to have the public participate on site.”</p>
<p>The pandemic has made them more popular as more people are ordering from their phone.</p>
<p>“It is primarily driven by the continued demand by American consumers for convenient delivery food and beverage options,” he said.</p>
<p>Riehle explained that prior to the pandemic, one out of every 20 orders in the industry was done digitally. </p>
<p>”Under the pandemic environment now, that has dropped down to about one in every five,” he said.</p>
<p>It’s something restaurant industry leaders are paying more attention to, and finding solutions for.</p>
<p>For example, DoorDash recently announced Reopen for Delivery, a way to help restaurants reopen through delivery-only models in commercial kitchens. The idea is not new, ClusterTruck has been in the business of delivery-only food for over five years.</p>
<p>“100% of our business is delivery,” Chris Baggott, CEO &amp; Co-founder of Clustertruck, said. “The fastest growing segment of food is prepared food delivery.”</p>
<p>ClusterTruck has expanded into seven locations. </p>
<p>“We make over 90 items. So we have Asian food, and we have cheeseburgers, and we have great vegetarian food.”</p>
<p>Their delivery is free as long as you are in their delivery zone. Baggot sees this model disruptive for catering and cooking, and less for dine-in restaurants.</p>
<p>“Honestly, it's how am I consuming food at home. It’s one of the reasons why we focus on quality so much, because we don't want people to have to trade quality for convenience,” he said.</p>
<p>As of September, nearly one in six restaurants, about 100,000, closed permanently or long term, according to the National Restaurant Association.</p>
<p>But the concept of the virtual kitchens might give some of those businesses a second chance or a new venture at surviving the pandemic.</p>
<p>“From the consumer's perspective there really is nothing more convenient than having the restaurant come to them,” Riehle said.</p>

Sharonville police said an Amazon driver was attacked by a pit bull while delivering packages on Wednesday. The driver who was attacked said the woman walking the dog took off with the dog. Now, the driver's arm is bandaged up and she is off the job recovering.Sharonville police are investigating what happened, but the driver said one thing is clear: the dog needs a different environment."I was in shock that a dog ran up on me because, like, I deliver every day to houses that do have dogs," Asia Turnbow said. Many days are delivery day for Turnbow. Most would say she is a welcome sight with Amazon packages in hand and a big smile on her face. But her day on Wednesday, would drive all of us to tears."Basically, the gash is probably like this big and this wide," Turnbow said as she described an area where she was bitten. She said a gray pit bull being walked bit her while she made deliveries at Waterstone Place Apartments in Sharonville at about 3:30 p.m."As I'm walking by, I'm like, 'Oh your dog is cute' and I kept walking and next thing you know, the dog ran up and attacked my shirt. So, I thought it was just my shirt that it ripped. Until I realized that it was bleeding," Turnbow said.Turnbow loves dogs and has two herself. But she said this dog was aggressive, pulling a harness and a woman walking it."He was about 150 pounds. He was a big dog. My dog is 110 and he was bigger than her," Turnbow said. She said the woman took off with the dog.Turnbow said she called for help and then walked to the front office alone and hurt."I went to the hospital. Spent probably three to four hours there, of them trying to figure out what to do next with it because the way it is, it's not repairable," Turnbow said. She said she's worked for Amazon more than a year handling thousands of packages. She's never been bitten."If you can't control your dog, then you shouldn't have the dog," Turnbow said. Now, Turnbow said she is too hurt to work and frustrated the woman left without hesitation."That could have been a small dog or even a child it could have bit instead of me," she said.A representative from the apartment complex said they've identified the tenant responsible and they have reported them to the police. They also said the tenant was apparently supposed to be dog-sitting, but left town, and someone else was dog-sitting.The representative said the dog is not allowed and the tenant has a short amount of time to get rid of the dog or they will be evicted. So far, Sharonville police have said the investigation is ongoing. It does not appear anyone has been charged or cited.Turnbow said she is hopeful the dog owner will be held responsible, not the dog.

<p>According to a recent <span class="Enhancement">&#13;<br />
            &#13;<br />
                <span class="Enhancement-item"><a class="Link" href="https://www.thelancet.com/series/caesarean-section">report,</a></span>&#13;<br />
            &#13;<br />
        </span>&#13;<br />
    &#13;<br />
&#13;<br />
cesarean sections, or 'C-section', rates are the highest in nearly two decades.</p>
<p>The Cleveland Clinic said the trend is so high that 1 in 3 babies in the U.S. are now born via C-section.</p>
<p>"It's a significant health burden, it's a significant medical burden and economical burden," Dr. Selena Zanotti said. "1 in 3 is definitely a high rate and there are things we can do to lower that rate." </p>
<p>Dr. Libby Buckley, dentist in Berea, is a mom of two. She gave birth to both of her children via C-section.</p>
<p>"Both of my kids wanted to stay inside me forever. They didn't want to come out." </p>
<p>Dr. Buckley said her doctor decided to induce her during her first pregnancy because her son was a week overdue. However, she wasn't dilating. Then came the emergency procedure. </p>
<p>The surgery itself went well, however it was her recovery that was a bit rocky.</p>
<p>"I was shaking a lot. Then they gave me my son and I was scared. I didn’t want to hold him I was afraid I was going to drop him. I was kind of freaking out a little bit," Dr. Buckley said. "I think it was the pitocin. Coming off of that was a bit rough."</p>
<p>So when Dr. Buckley was pregnant with her daughter about two years later, she wanted to try to give birth naturally. </p>
<p>“I didn’t want to pick out the date of my child’s birth," she said.</p>
<p>But naturally, her daughter was also a week overdue, so again she gave birth via cesarean. </p>
<p>Dr. Buckley's story is just like so many others across the country.</p>
<p>Dr. Zanotti said there are several contributing factors to the increase rate, including obesity, the number of older first time mothers plus a change in the medical legal system. </p>
<p>"There are a lot of physicians who practice safer medicine. There's a lot of fear of being sued in this country and because of that cesareans may be getting done earlier than before," Dr. Zanotti said.</p>
<p>However, the rising rates is catching the attention of national agencies, like the American College of of Obstetricians and Gynecologists’, ACOG. </p>
<p>The ACOG recently updated their opinion called <span class="Enhancement">&#13;<br />
            &#13;<br />
                <span class="Enhancement-item"><a class="Link" href="https://www.acog.org/-/media/Committee-Opinions/Committee-on-Obstetric-Practice/co761.pdf?dmc=1&amp;ts=20190127T2325013316">'Cesarean Delivery on Maternal Request.'</a></span>&#13;<br />
            &#13;<br />
        </span>&#13;<br />
    &#13;<br />
&#13;<br />
In the opinion, it states "in the absence of maternal or fetal indications for cesarean delivery, a plan for vaginal delivery is safe and appropriate and should be recommended." </p>
<p>Dr. Zanotti said the Cleveland Clinic is also working towards reversing the trend. She said last year the Clinic had a 22% rate for cesareans for first-time moms.</p>
<p>“Which is fantastic. That’s taken a lot of work on our part as well," she said. </p>
<p>Dr. Buckley's advice - give birth naturally if you can. </p>
<p>"To me, it’s not worth it. A surgery is a surgery, I’d rather do it the way we’re supposed to unless the doctor comes in and says this is the only way to go," she said. </p>
<p>But it is important to remember, C-sections may be the only option for some mothers for a chance at a healthy baby.</p>
<p>“C-sections are needed, c-sections are definitely indicated in a lot of medical conditions but we just need to be cautious on how many we’re doing,” Dr. Zanotti said. </p>
