A Hawaii fisherman with years of experience on the water found himself in a very dangerous situation last weekend.Claude Moreau has been fishing on Maui for over 40 years. He and his daughter, Charme, were on their way back home from Hana last Sunday morning when they dozed off."I sat down because I was tired," Claude, 70, said. "And the next thing I know I was sleeping. I didn't know I was sleeping. Next thing I noticed -- Boom. That's how I woke up."Claude's boat, Maile, smashed into a group of giant rocks, in waters right off the island's north shore. "I looked at him and said 'make a mayday call right now... Mayday mayday," Charme recalled. "He got in Mayday. 'Mayday This is Maile.' Then the boat went under and he went under with the boat."Suddenly, Charme lost sight of him. Her dad was trapped under the boat as it sank."You see those movies where people are trying to save those people underwater and they can barely get to them," she said. "And I had that feeling because I went down and I couldn't see him."Through strength, courage and the will to survive, Charme dove underwater, found her dad and pulled him back to the surface. But now, they still were stuck in the middle of the ocean."I look at the shoreline and crashing huge rocks, and crashing huge lava rocks," Charme said. They had no choice."I held him and I went on my back just like lifeguard style on my back, just pulling and swimming with my head up and taking deep breaths," she remembered. "And I kept telling him don't let the water go in your mouth because that's what was happening, it was going in and drowning both of us."Charme said they swam over an hour to get to the rocky shoreline."The waves are crashing, we have to not bash our heads open," she said. "So that was the point when we were trying to get in, I had that moment, like, wow, we may not make it."The pair took a chance and crashed onto the rocks. "We both tumble and I just see him tumbling, but we're on the rocks and I'm like, 'Oh, we made it!'"They weren't in the clear yet, though, as they had to figure how to get to the top of the giant rock pile to get onto land. Then, out of nowhere, they were given a helping hand. Or a helping rope."Mahalo ke Akua and all his angels for those wonderful fishermen who put ropes," Charme said. "Somebody put ropes. So I was like 'There are ropes! I can make it!'"Charme did make it -- she climbed all the way up and was able to track down people who called 911. The Maui Fire Department flew in a helicopter and plucked Claude from the rocks and took him to the hospital. With just a few bumps and bruises, this fisherman and his daughter are happy to be alive, grateful to their community and want their story to be a lesson.

Hundreds of children anxiously awaited their COVID-19 shots on Wednesday night. At Cincinnati Children's Hospital, so many lined up at the Burnet Campus, doctors had to stop taking walk-ins.WLWT talked with a Northern Kentucky mother and her 10-year-old daughter who waited in line for three hours. The mother said her little girl was determined to get the shot before she left."The line was out the door, wrapped around by the cafeteria and we waited in line for three hours to get her first vaccine. So, it was quite the evening," Maria Borchardt said.It was a very different mother-daughter night on the town.Maria Borchardt and her daughter, Lilah Borchardt, 10, waited for hours at Cincinnati Children's Hospital for the 10-year-old's first Pfizer COVID-19 shot.Children ages five to 11 are now eligible. We asked Lilah Borchardt what she thought when she saw the long line."That's a lot of people. I guess they all want the vaccine as much as I do," Lilah Borchardt said.Demand is high.At Cincinnati Children's Hospital, officials said about 400 kids got the shot.More than 200 were still waiting in line after 6 p.m. at the Burnet Campus, according to a spokesman. They also stopped taking walk-ins."I teach fourth grade and she's, you know, in the fifth grade and we just don't want anybody in our house getting sick. We don't want to be responsible for anybody else getting sick. So, we just want to protect everybody that we love," Maria Borchardt said.UC Health now has shots by appointment.Walgreens will offer the vaccine starting Saturday.CVS Health will start offering the shots on Sunday."We're in the process of getting all of the supplies and vaccine to our stores right now," CVS Health Regional Director Sarah Edington said. The Borchardts saw the demand on Wednesday night."The staff at Children's was amazing. They were bringing bananas and waters and Teddy Grahams and color pages. The therapy dog was in there. It was just awesome to see the energy," Maria Borchardt said. While not everyone is ready to get vaccinated, this fifth grader couldn't wait and has a sticker that reads "POW!" and "Superpower" to prove it."My arm hurts just a little bit but I feel relieved that I got the first COVID vaccine," Lilah Borchardt said.Lilah Borchardt said she has been talking with her friends about her experience. She said there is nothing to worry about if you don't like shots.Lilah Borchardt said just keep talking and forget about it.Cincinnati Children's Hospital said walk-ins are welcome, but appointments can also be made at three clinic locations. Those locations are the Burnet or Liberty Campus or the Green Township Neighborhood location.

A Louisville man has been charged with murder after his 7-week-old daughter died last week from severe injuries, police said. The child's mother, Cortney Jones, told WLWT sister station, WLKY, "It makes me disgusted, it makes me sick."Del'Shawn Banks, 23, was arrested Monday night on an arrest warrant for murder-domestic violence. Jones, who was still dealing from complications from the delivery, was back in the hospital Thursday when she says Banks called her."I'm sitting in the wheelchair waiting to get rolled back to the room and I get the call my baby wasn't breathing and he's crying, the dad's crying," Jones said.Little Del'Luna died Saturday at Norton Children's Hospital. According to court documents, she had severe head injuries, including a fractured skull.Police said the girl's father, Banks, admitted to shaking her and throwing her on the ground. The autopsy confirmed that the injuries were related to the actions described by Banks, and the medical examiner determined the manner of death for the child was homicide.Jones said her year-and-a-half-long relationship with Banks had been troubled and believes she should have left sooner."How can you hurt your own child? How do you hurt someone that looks just like you? A part of you, your blood, your sweat your tears, your everything. How do you do that?" she wondered Tuesday.Banks faced a judge Tuesday and his bond was set at $250,000. He is due back in court June 30.Meanwhile, Jones is preparing to organize a funeral for baby Del'Luna. Those wishing to help can click here.

<p>BUFFALO, N.Y. (<a class="Link" href="https://www.wkbw.com/rebound/the-whole-pandemic-this-has-made-it-bearable-first-time-grandma-recalls-meeting-granddaughter">WKBW</a>) -- First-time grandmother Pat Gray will never forget meeting her granddaughter, Maeve. Maeve was born in March of 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic closed down New York and most of the world. For safety reasons, Pat and her daughter Shelbey Timmons decided grandmother and granddaughter should meet through a glass door.</p>
<p>"I just - my heart just melted. I saw this little baby, and I saw my daughter, we were both in tears," Pat recalls.</p>
<p>Shelbey's husband captured photos of their meeting, which were shared hundreds of times last March when they were posted <a class="Link" href="https://www.wkbw.com/rebound/the-whole-pandemic-this-has-made-it-bearable-first-time-grandma-recalls-meeting-granddaughter">by 7 Eyewitness News</a>. At a time when the community was still struggling to fully understand the COVID-19 pandemic, the photos resonated with so many.</p>
<p>"It was like one of the saddest, happiest days of my life," said Pat. "I was so sad I couldn't hold her and touch her, but I was just so happy that she was here. And she was healthy."</p>
<p>It wasn't the way the two were supposed to meet. Pat planned to be with Shelbey at the hospital, but Maeve's March 16th birthday came right at the time everything started locking down.</p>
<p>"It was like 24 hours - everything just flipped!" recalled Shelbey.</p>
<p>So the family connected virtually at first through Facetime.</p>
<p>"She said do you want to meet your new grandchild? And I just burst into tears, and there were people around me in the office and I was holding my phone - and everybody was like - let me see!" Pat laughed.</p>
<p>When it came time to meet in-person, the mother and grandmother decided it would be safest through the glass. It wasn't an easy decision for the family, but they say it was the right one. </p>
<p>"When you have a baby, who do you want? You want your mom. And I'm on one side of the glass and they're on the other - and it was just heartbreaking. But knowing that they were safe and healthy was all I cared about," said Pat.</p>
<p>About six weeks later, Pat was finally able to hold Maeve. Now, more than a year later, she's able to visit as often as she wants. She says while it's been a difficult year, her first grandchild has been the light at the end of the tunnel.</p>
<p>"It just - the whole pandemic - this has made it bearable. Every time I see her I fall in love all over again. It's like the first time I saw her - every time I saw her."</p>
<p><i><a class="Link" href="https://www.wkbw.com/rebound/the-whole-pandemic-this-has-made-it-bearable-first-time-grandma-recalls-meeting-granddaughter">This story originally reported by Katie Morse on WKBW.com. </a></i></p>
