											THE WAY ON. BREAKING NEWS THIS MORNING. WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT AN OVERNIGHT CRASH THAT INJURED PERSON AND CAUSED A MAJOR TRAFFIC BACK UP. AND A COMMUNITY PUTS SUPPORT BEHIND A FATHER AND A VETERAN LIVING WITH AN INOPERABLE BRAIN TUMOR. HOW THEY’RE HELPING HIM MAKE ENDS MEET. WE’RE TRADING YESTERDAY’S RAIN AND STORMS FOR SUNSHINE. A WILDFIRE SMOKE AND SOME FOG THIS MORNING. I HAVE THE LATEST ON A NEW AIR QUALITY ALERT FOR THE AREA. PLUS, A LOOK AT OUR MONDAY STORM. THIS IS WLWT NEWS FIVE TODAY LEADING WAY. 7:00 ON YOUR SUNDAY. GOOD MORNING ON LACEY ROBERTS METEOROLOGIST KATIE DONOVAN. THOSE STORMS YESTERDAY HAVE MOVED OUT. TODAY WE’RE WITH A DIFFERENT ISSUE. YEAH, AIR QUALITY. SO WE’VE GOT SOME FAIRLY HEAVY CANADIAN WILDFIRE SMOKE OVERHEAD. I MEAN, THE SKY LOOKS GRAY. NOW WIDESPREAD. IT IS. IT’S NOT GREAT. SO IF YOU’RE SENSITIVE, THAT TYPE OF THING, KEEP THAT IN MIND. CAN’T SEE THE SUN ANYMORE. IT’S BEHIND THE BANNER. IT’S COME UP A LITTLE BIT TOO HIGH. BUT WE HAD A RED SUNRISE THIS MORNING, SO IT’S SHINING THROUGH ALL THAT SMOKE. THE RED LIGHT GETS FILTERED THROUGH. THAT’S WHY IT LOOKS LIKE THAT AND WE’LL CONTINUE TO SEE THE SKY ALL DAY TODAY. IT’S NOT GREAT. SOME OF THIS IS FOG AS YOU LOOK BACK TOWARDS LUNKEN AIRPORT HERE. BUT ALL OF THIS, THAT’S HAZE THAT’S THE SMOKE THAT’S COME IN. SO IT’S REALLY A GREAT SITUATION OUTSIDE TODAY. VISIBILITY FROM CINCINNATI, LUNKEN AIRPORT UP THROUGH ABOUT WILMINGTON, THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SEEING PATCHY, DENSE FOG. WE HAVE AREAS OF NO VISIBILITY. SO AROUND A QUARTER OR LESS FOR SOME LOCATIONS THIS MORNING BECAUSE OF THAT, A DENSE FOG ADVISORY IS OUT THROUGH 9:00. THAT INCLUDES BROWN COUNTY, CLINTON COUNTY AND HIGHLAND COUNTY MORNING, WARREN COUNTY AND CLERMONT COUNTY. YOU HAVE BEEN EXCLUDED FROM THIS. IT WAS CANCELED EARLY FOR YOUR AREA. SO THINGS STARTING IMPROVE A LITTLE BIT QUICKLY IN THOSE LOCATIONS. BUT AGAIN, AIR QUALITY A BIG PROBLEM FOLLOWING THE FOG. WE’RE GOING TO BE SEEING THAT THROUGH THIS MORNING INTO THE AFTERNOON AND THROUGH TOMORROW NIGHT. SO IT’S INCLUDES GREATER CINCINNATI NORTHERN KENTUCKY AND OUR SOUTHEAST INDIANA COMMUNITIES. IF YOU ARE TO AIR QUALITY, IF YOU HAVE BREATHING, NOT THE TIME TO BE OUTSIDE PROBABLY NOT THE BEST NIGHT TO HEAD TO THE REDS GAME. IF THAT’S THE CASE. WE HAVE FIRST PITCH AT 140 HAZY SUNSHINE THAT POINT. WIDESPREAD SMOKE IN THE FORECAST THROUGH THE AFTERNOON AND THEN THROUGH THE LAST OUT. LESS HUMID IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE OUT OF THAT GAME. HUMIDITY WILL BE DROPPING ALL AFTERNOON AND INTO THE EVENING. SO WEST WINDS PULLING IN THE SMOKE BUT ALSO PULLING IN MORE COMFORTABLE AIR FOR US. WE’LL TALK ABOUT THOSE CHANGES THEN THE SHOWERS AND STORMS THAT FOLLOW INTO THE NEW WEEK COMING UP. KATY, THANK YOU SO MUCH. WE ARE LEADING THE WAY WITH BREAKING. AT LEAST ONE PERSON IS INJURED. A CRASH THAT SHUT DOWN THE HIGHWAY OVERNIGHT, RIDGEWOOD, KENTUCKY. THIS HAPPENING AROUND AT 1230 THIS MORNING ON. I-75 SOUTH AT THAT RIDGEWOOD EXIT. THE EXTENT OF THAT PERSON’S ARE UNKNOWN, BUT WE DO KNOW THAT AIR CARE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE. THE HIGHWAY WAS COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN, CAUSING A MAJOR BACKUP WITH TWO LANES REOPENING JUST AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR. BUT RIGHT NOW, ALL OF THOSE LANES ARE BACK OPEN. A YOUNG GIRL WILL BE LAID TO REST ONE WEEK AFTER A DRIVE BY SHOOTING TOOK HER. DEMY ABAD PICKENS DIED THIS PAST MONDAY AFTER TWO MEN FIRED DOZENS OF SHOTS INTO GRANDMOTHER’S HOME IN SILVERTON. THE COMMUNITY HAS CONTINUED TO RALLY AROUND THIS FAMILY. WLWT NEWS 5 RICHARD CHILES JOINS US WITH HER FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS AND HOW SHE’S CONTINUING TO BE HONORED. LACY IT HAS BEEN PARTICULARLY FOLLOWING THIS STORY ALL WEEK. SO MANY, AGAIN, JUST SEEING THESE BRIGHT EYES JUST HEARTBROKEN AT THE LOSS. FAMILY AND FRIENDS WILL GET A CHANCE TO SAY THEIR FINAL TO MAYA BARTON PICKENS TOMORROW MORNING. THE NINE YEAR OLD’S DEATH SENDING SHOCKWAVES. SILVERTON AND THE ENTIRE TRI-STATE. NOW, MEMBERS OF THIS TIGHT COMMUNITY HAVE COME TOGETHER TO REMEMBER THE MAYA ALMOST EVERY DAY SINCE SHE WAS KILLED. TODAY, CERTAINLY GOING TO NO EXCEPTION. HER CHEER TEAM DEDICATING THEIR WATER DRIVE FUNDRAISER TO MAYA’S MEMORY. ALL THAT’S HAPPENING NEAR HYDE PARK PLAZA WILL TAKE PLACE AT NOON TODAY. THOSE KNEW MAYA DESCRIBE HER LEADERSHIP IN HER ENERGY AND HER ENTHUSIASM. FRIENDS SAY SHE WAS ALWAYS SMILING. SHE WAS CHEERING FOR THE WEST SIDE PANTHERS OR HEADING OFF TO SCHOOL IN ALLIANCE ACADEMY. SHE WAS VERY LOUD, ENERGETIC AND JUST HAPPY. SHE GOT HERE. SHE LIKE SHE GOT THE ENERGY TEACHER READY TO GO. SO HAPPY LIKE SHE WAS ALWAYS HAPPY. THAT’S ALL I REMEMBER IS HAPPY AND JOYFUL. ADMIRES VISITATION WILL BE HELD AT CORINTHIAN BAPTIST CHURCH ON TENNESSEE AVENUE. IT’S GOING TO TAKE PLACE FROM 10:00 UNTIL 11:30 A.M. ON MONDAY. FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING LACEY. RICHARD, THANK YOU SO MUCH. THE COMMUNITY IS MAKING A DIFFERENCE FOR AN AIR FORCE VETERAN AND NATIONAL GUARD MEMBER TYLER NUTTALL WAS DIAGNOSED AN INOPERABLE BRAIN TUMOR LAST YEAR AND HAS BEEN TRYING TO MAKE ENDS MEET EVER SINCE HE SERVED IN THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE. AND HE CURRENTLY IS A STAFF SERGEANT IN THE AIR NATIONAL GUARD RESERVE GUARD FOR THE LAST FIVE YEARS. HE’S MEDICALLY DISCHARGED, BUT HE TELLS US IT WON’T BE FINAL UNTIL 2024. THE ARE ADDING UP AND HE CAN’T BARTON THAT ELI’S SPORTS BAR AND GRILL BECAUSE OF THE TUMOR HE’S BEEN THROUGH RADIATION AND CHEMOTHERAPY THE TUMOR IS IMPACTING SOME OF HIS MOTOR SKILLS SO HE CAN’T TYLER SPIRIT IS CONTAGIOUS HE’S INSPIRING ALL OF THESE PEOPLE TO COME OUT AND SUPPORT HIM AND HIS FOUR YEAR OLD SON. THERE’S ALWAYS HOPE AND THERE’S ALWAYS SOMETHING THAT YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT. YOU KNOW, YOU CAN’T WORRY THINGS THAT AREN’T IN YOUR CONTROL, ONLY THINGS THAT ARE YOUR CONTROL. SO AND THAT’S THE THING. SO PROUD YOU NEVER GIVES UP. AND HE’S SO STRONG AND WE LOVE HIM TO PIECES. NOW, IF YOU WERE NOT ABLE TO DONATE ON SATURDAY NIGHT BUT WANT TO HELP TYLER OUT, WE HAVE INFORMATION ON WHERE TO MAKE A DONATION FOR HIM. YOU CAN VISIT OUR WEBSITE WLWT DOT COM FOR ALL THOSE DETAILS TODAY. HUNDREDS OF KIDS WITH LIFE THREATENING CONDITIONS WILL GET TO ENJOY A CAREFREE DAY WITH THEIR SIBLINGS. PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS AT KINGS ISLAND THE GROUP A KID AGAIN IN SOUTHWEST OHIO, HOSTED ITS 28TH ANNUAL RIDES AND SLIDES ADVENTURE AT THE AMUSEMENT PARK. A man indicted in a crash that left another man permanently disabled in 2020 has been arrested again on drug charges.Antonio Wright is indicted on charges of aggravated vehicular assault, operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs, possession and trafficking fentanyl. Late August 2020, Cincinnati police said they tried to pull Wright over after he was involved in a drug deal. Police said he took off and seconds later, crashed into another driver.The other driver, Travis Feltner, was on his way to work in the IT department for Children's Hospital. He was seriously injured and after days in intensive care and weeks in the hospital, returned home to his family, a wife and eight children. Feltner has not been able to return to work after suffering a traumatic brain injury in the crash. He still deals with tingling and pain in his hands and frequent short-term memory loss.He is also adjusting to life as a single dad after losing his wife Amber to COVID-19 in the fall of last year. "Now everything is left on me," he said Thursday. "Making good money and all of a sudden I'm like ok we're barely getting by."Feltner filed a lawsuit against the Cincinnati police department for pursuing Wright. The pursuit lasted a matter of seconds prior to the crash. "I'm surviving," he said. "Being on long-term disability and everything and the gas prices soaring, it's just kind of a struggle each month." The crash that left him disabled happened three days after Wright was released from prison on robbery charges, according to police. In Wright's wrecked car, police reported finding a handgun, 35 grams of fentanyl and almost $10,000 in cash.Wright was released on bond within a few months.In December 2021, he was arrested again with a "bulk amount of heroin" packaged and prepared for distribution. He made bond a few days later. "This whole time I thought he's been behind bars," Feltner said. He learned this week that Wright was arrested again Sunday on drug charges. Police said Wright had heroin in his vehicle. After he was arrested and taken to the jail to be searched, court records say he pulled cocaine out of his rear area and swallowed it. Deputies said he also pulled a bag of Percocet from a body part, ingested some and "spilled it all over the room," trying to destroy it. He was charged with several crimes including bringing contraband into a corrections facility, trafficking drugs and tampering with evidence. "I don't think it's fair," Feltner said. "I've been through heck and back trying to survive when he's just out running around doing what he would like to do... I won't be able to work again. I have this short-term memory issue for the rest of my life."Wright, as of Tuesday, is being held without bond at the Hamilton County Justice Center. His next court date is May 16. Feltner said he is looking forward to getting his day in court. "What I've been through I wouldn't want no one else to go through at all," Feltner said.

<p>Another fall for stocks on Friday had the S&amp;P 500 flirting with a 20% drop from its peak set early this year, putting it within the grasp of what Wall Street calls a bear market. </p>
<p>The benchmark index was down 0.4% for the day in afternoon trading and on pace for its seventh straight losing week. Rising interest rates, high inflation, the war in Ukraine, and a slowdown in China's economy are all punishing stocks and raising fears about a possible U.S. recession. The last bear market was in 2020, an unusually brief downturn that sliced 34% off the S&amp;P 500.</p>
<p>The index finished the week off with a 3 percent loss, which was its seventh straight weekly decline, the New York Times reported. It's the longest window of losses since 2001. </p>
<p>Surprisingly low earnings reports from Target and Walmart this week didn't help either which contributed to dragging the markets even lower. The <a class="Link" href="https://www.nytimes.com/live/2022/05/16/business/stocks-bear-market#stock-market-inflation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Times points out</a> that since World War II, recessions almost always follow bear markets. </p>

					At least 10 million bees were released onto a highway after a semitrailer crashed in Utah.The truck, driven by a commercial beekeeper traveling from California to North Dakota, tipped over on Interstate 80 at around 10:40 a.m. local time Monday, Cameron Roden, public information officer for the Utah Highway Patrol, told CNN. The crash occurred because the driver was driving too fast on a curve, Roden added.Eastbound I-80's right lane was closed for about four hours to clean up the crash site and the driver was taken to the hospital due to numerous bee stings and minor injuries from the crash, Roden reported. Several troopers on the scene also received bee stings.Julie Arthur, president of the Wasatch Beekeepers' Association, told CNN the truck was transporting 416 boxes, each of which carried between 50,000-100,000 honeybees used to pollinate crops across the country."At least 10 million bees were in the air," Arthur noted. She put out a call to her team to help capture the huge swarm, but the beekeeper told authorities on site it was not worthwhile to attempt to save the bees.It wasn't until Tuesday morning Arthur received a call saying she and her team could stage a rescue mission.The scene was "a gigantic mess," Arthur recounted, with honey and honeycomb wax melting in the sun and boxes scattered everywhere, covered in the fire foam fighters had used to spray down some of the bees."Little of the equipment was salvageable," Arthur observed. "But we found a huge pile of bees on the back of the hillside." She described seeing "a wall of bees" 8 feet long, 4 feet deep, and 5 feet high. "We just started piling bees into boxes as fast as we could. They were not nice. They had just been dumped off a truck and most of them had lost their queen."Altogether, Arthur and a group of five volunteers rescued about 10% of the wayward bees.Whereas the rescued bees were previously destined to travel the country pollinating crops for farmers, now they're going to be used as teaching aids for burgeoning beekeepers."A lot of those bees are gonna be used as teaching hives for the Wasatch Beekeepers' Association," Arthur explained. "Others went to some of the beekeepers that helped, other organizations that needed bees, community gardens."Arthur added she hopes the incident prompts Utah to develop a more unified strategy to deal with accidental bee releases."We had hours of confusion as to who was allowed to do what," she acknowledged. "The good thing to come out of this is that the Utah Highway Patrol and Utah Department of Transportation and local fire and police departments have said we need to come up with an immediate strategy if this happens again.""Everyone knows how valuable honeybees are to our environment, but they were not sure what to do," she added. "It's really fortunate that we had people who wanted to come out and help."Utah is known as the "Beehive State" and images of beehives are found across the state's signs and monuments, according to the Utah State Capitol.

<p>Julie Arthur, president of the Wasatch Beekeepers' Association, told CNN the truck was transporting 416 boxes, each of which carried between 50,000-100,000 honeybees used to pollinate crops across the country.</p>
<p>"At least 10 million bees were in the air," Arthur noted. She put out a call to her team to help capture the huge swarm, but the beekeeper told authorities on site it was not worthwhile to attempt to save the bees.</p>
<p>It wasn't until Tuesday morning Arthur received a call saying she and her team could stage a rescue mission.</p>

</div>
<p>The scene was "a gigantic mess," Arthur recounted, with honey and honeycomb wax melting in the sun and boxes scattered everywhere, covered in the fire foam fighters had used to spray down some of the bees.</p>
<p>"Little of the equipment was salvageable," Arthur observed. "But we found a huge pile of bees on the back of the hillside." She described seeing "a wall of bees" 8 feet long, 4 feet deep, and 5 feet high. "We just started piling bees into boxes as fast as we could. They were not nice. They had just been dumped off a truck and most of them had lost their queen."</p>
<p>Altogether, Arthur and a group of five volunteers rescued about 10% of the wayward bees.</p>
<p>Whereas the rescued bees were previously destined to travel the country pollinating crops for farmers, now they're going to be used as teaching aids for burgeoning beekeepers.</p>
<p>"A lot of those bees are gonna be used as teaching hives for the Wasatch Beekeepers' Association," Arthur explained. "Others went to some of the beekeepers that helped, other organizations that needed bees, community gardens."</p>
<p>Arthur added she hopes the incident prompts Utah to develop a more unified strategy to deal with accidental bee releases.</p>
<p>"We had hours of confusion as to who was allowed to do what," she acknowledged. "The good thing to come out of this is that the Utah Highway Patrol and Utah Department of Transportation and local fire and police departments have said we need to come up with an immediate strategy if this happens again."</p>
<p>"Everyone knows how valuable honeybees are to our environment, but they were not sure what to do," she added. "It's really fortunate that we had people who wanted to come out and help."</p>
<p>Utah is known as the "Beehive State" and images of beehives are found across the state's signs and monuments, <a href="https://utahstatecapitol.utah.gov/uncategorized/beehive-sculptures" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">according to the Utah State Capitol.</a></p>

					A collision between a double-decker bus and a city bus in Manhattan on Thursday left dozens injured and at least 18 people requiring hospitalization for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the New York City Fire Department.First responders received notice of the crash on the borough’s east side shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday, said FDNY Deputy Chief Kevin Murphy.“The first two units arrived to find two buses involved in what appeared to be a serious accident, complicated by the fact that one of them was a double-decker bus,” Murphy said at a news conference at the scene.Ropes and ladders were used to assist passengers with getting off the buses, officials said.“Any time you have two buses involved you have a significant number of patients that likely need to be treated,” Murphy said. “So seeing that quantity of people right away, I think the units did a very good job getting them off the bus quickly and taken to the appropriate resources.”Eighteen patients were transported to area hospitals but none have life-threatening injuries, the fire department said.“Many injuries are just cuts, bruises, scrapes, some suspected fractures. Some head and neck injuries as well,” said EMS Deputy Chief Paul Hopper. “We’re all quite fortunate it was not much worse.”Another 63 people were needing assessment from a fire department doctor, Hopper said, adding, “We expect that they will refuse medical attention and be seen by our doctor who is on the scene and on the bus evaluating patients.”It is not yet clear what caused the crash, fire officials say.A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority said there was a crash at 7:17 p.m. on bus route X27 and referred CNN to the fire department for further details. Police referred CNN to the fire department when asked for comment.

					Five members of an Amish family are recovering after a driver crashed into their buggy Saturday afternoon in Missouri. Truman Gingerich, 38, and his wife Ada Gingerich, 33, were returning from a church service with three of their six children, three daughters ages three, five and seven.According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 71-year-old driver of a 2003 Mercury struck the rear of the Gingerich buggy.All five members of the Gingerich Family were taken to area hospitals.They’ve all been released except the 5-year-old girl. "The Lord was looking out for them because they shouldn’t be here," said Dan Atkinson.Atkinson is a friend and neighbor of the Gingerich family and was one of the first people to arrive at the crash site.The broken pieces of the buggy are lined up against a fence on the Gingerich property."I looked for it. I realized when I saw the broken wheels everywhere that the pieces of the buggy were all over the highway," Atkinson said.Truman Gingerich later told Atkinson the real horror of the crash, wondering if his daughters would survive."He said, Dan, you don’t understand how hard it was when I looked up, and I tried to get up, and I could see my little girls lying in the highway, and they were lifeless," Atkinson said. "And he tried to get to them, and he was trying to get up off the ground, and when he got to them, he said he couldn’t get them to wake up or nothing,"Atkinson spent part of Tuesday with extended Gingerich family members taking a buggy to be repaired for Truman’s family to use.The family horse also had to be put down at the crash site due to injuries.Residents of the Holden community have been rallying around the Gingerich Family, including providing them with meals and raising money to help with medical expenses.The Missouri State Highway Patrol cited the driver for careless and imprudent driving.The case has not yet been referred to the Johnson County Prosecutor for possible criminal charges.

					Two men are dead after a series of bizarre events that began with a crash and ended with one man being shot to death by police.The crash was between two cars on Fairgrove Avenue in Hamilton.Witnesses said they saw something unusual right away with a man who was standing outside of one of the vehicles.“When I was coming up the road, he was pulling something out of that car,” said Jeff Black, who pulled up just after the crash.It turned out that something was someone.At first, I thought it was a quilt or something like that, but it was actually the person.” Black said.Black, who is a long-time mail carrier, was on his way home from work.“I'm getting ready. Call 911. He takes off going up the road, Route 4, heading east, and so I decided to follow him,” Black said.Black stayed on the phone with 911 dispatchers helping to guide police to Morris Road, where the suspect stopped.Other witnesses called 911, telling dispatchers the man had a gun, but Black was unaware of the weapon.Police arrived on the scene. “They asked him to drop it, put the gun down, drop it,” Black said. “That's when I knew he had a gun.”The man took off into the woods. He reappears about a half mile away on Tara Brooke Court when police said he confronted two Hamilton police officers. Few details have been released on the altercation, but the officers shot the man to death.The officers have been put on administrative leave.No names have been released.

											[CAPTIONING MADE POSSIBLE BY WLWT-TV] &gt;&gt; I AM TRACKING MAJOR WEATHER CHANGES FROM THE NEXT 24 HOURS. HOW CLOSE CINCINNATI IS TO THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT TODAY AND WHEN TO BRIDGERS WILL FALL OR THAN 20 DEGREES. &gt;&gt; GEORGE WAGGONER BEING ACCUSED OF MURDER AND WHY HIS ATTORNEY ANNOUNCED HE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FROM THE DEATH OF THE FAMILY MEMBERS. ALSO, AN APARTMENT COMPLEX GOES DAYS WITHOUT WATER. WHAT OFFICIALS NOW SAY CAUSED THE PROBLEM AND WHY RESIDENTS STILL AREN’T HAPPY WITH THE REPAIR. &gt;&gt; THIS IS WLWT NEWS 5 LEADING THE WAY. STESTEVEN: MILD TEMPERATURES BU SHOWERS AND STORMS WILL MOVE IN LATER TODAY. THANKS FOR JOINING US AT NOON. I’M STEVEN ALBRITTON. WE’LL SEND THINGS STRAIGHT OVER TO METEOROLOGIST KATIE DONOVAN FOR THE TIMELINE OF WHEN THE RAIN ARRIVES. KATIE: WE HAVE NICE TEMPERATURES AND CLEAR SKIES RIGHT NOW. WE WILL BE IN THE 50’S AS WE HEAD THROUGH LUNCH HOUR BUT WE HAVE TEMPERATURES FALLING LATER THIS AFTERNOON. 54 TO THE NORTH OF HAMILTON. WE WILL CONTINUE TO SEE BREEZES TODAY AS WE GO THROUGH THE AFTERNOON, THE WIND WILL INCREASE. WE SEE MORE OF AN INCREASED THAN WHAT WE HAD THIS MORNING. SEEING ANYWHERE FROM 10 AND 15 MILES PER HOUR GETTING BLUSTERY AS WE HEAD THROUGH TODAY. THOSE WILL BE WINDS OF CHANGE FOR US. WE SEE SOME CLOUDS AS WE HEAD INTO THE AFTERNOON CLOUDS CONTINUE TO THICKEN AND OUR NEXT WEATHER MAKER AS WE HEAD INTO TONIGHT. THINGS WILL START TO COOL DOWN QUITE A BIT. WE HAVE A TEMPERATURE CHANGE TEMPERATURES WILL DROP OFF MORE THAN 20 DEGREES AND WE WILL HEAR A RUMBLE OF THUNDER WE WILL HAVE MORE ON THAT COMING UP. STEVEN? STEVEN: ATTORNEYS FOR GEORGE WAGNER THE FOURTH ARE MAKING THEIR FINAL PITCH TO THE JURY ARGUING HE’S NOT A MURDERER. CLOSING ARGUMENTS ARE UNDERWAY IN THE FIRST TRIAL IN THE PIKE COUNTY MASSACRE. WLWT NEWS 5’S MEREDITH STUTZ JOINS US IN STUDIO WITH A CLOSER LOOK AT THE CASE. MEREDITH: GOOD AFTERNOON, PROSECUTORS WILL NO LONGER SEEK THE DEATH PENALTY FOR GEORGE WAGNER AND HIS BROTHER JAKE AND PARENTS BILLY AND ANGELA. BUT THEY STILL WANT A JURY TO CONVICT HIM OF MURDER. GEORGE WAGNER’S DEFENSE TEAM HAS ARGUED HE NEVER KILLED ANY OF THE EIGHT MEMBERS OF THE RHODEN FAMILY. ON THE STAND IN HIS OWN DEFENSE WAGNER TESTIFIED HE DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT HIS FAMILY’S PLANS TO SHOOT THE RHODENS. JAKE WAGNER HAD SAID HE WAS CONCERNED HIS DAUGHTER WITH HANNAH RHODEN WAS BEING SEXUALLY ABUSED. AND THE WAGNER FAMILY HAD TO PROTECT HER. PROSECUTORS ARGUE GEORGE WAGNER IS JUST AS RESPONSIBLE, BECAUSE HE HELPED HIS FAMILY PLAN AND CARRY OUT THE KILLINGS. DEFENSE ATTORNEY SAYS THE SHOOTINGS WERE NOT GEORGE’S IDEA. HE TRIED TO DISTANCE HIMSELF FROM HIS FAMILIES CRIMINAL LIFESTYLE. &gt;&gt; HE DID NOT HAVE ANY TEACHERS AS ROLE MODELS, HE DID NOT HAVE THE PARENTS OF FRIENDS HE COULD LOOK UP TO. HE WAS PRETTY MUCH SOCIALLY ISOLATED. YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT THIS EVIDENCE FROM GEORGE’S POINT OF VIEW. HE THOUGHT HIS FAMILY WAS BEING FRAMED. THAT IS WHAT ANGEL TOLD HIM AND JAKE TOLD HIM. [INDISCERNIBLE] MEREDITH: RIGHT NOW, THE PROSECUTION IS GIVING REBUTTAL CLOSINGS. THE JURY COULD POSSIBLY GET THE CASE LATE TODAY. KARIN JOHNSON IS IN THE COURTROOM RIGHT NOW AND WE’LL LET YOU KNOW WHEN THE JURY INSTRUCTIONS ARE READ. MEREDITH STUTZ, WLWT NEWS 5. STEVEN: MEREDITH, WE DO APPRECIATE IT. WLWT HAS BEEN LEADING THE WAY WITH LIVE COVERAGE, SINCE THE TRIAL STARTED MORE THAN TWO MONTHS AGO. HARD TO BELIEVE IT. WE HAVE A LIVE STREAM ON THE WLWT FACEBOOK PAGE AND ON OUR APP, SO YOU CAN STAY ON TOP OF EVERY DEVELOPMENT. WE NOW KNOW THE NAME OF THE MAN SHOT AND KILLED IN NORTH COLLEGE HILL THIS WEEKEND. POLICE FOUND 32-YEAR-OLD MAURICE SEARCY SHOT MULTIPLE TIMES ON SUNDALE AVENUE SATURDAY NIGHT. HE DIED AT THE HOSPITAL. OFFICERS ARE GOING THROUGH SURVEILLANCE FOOTAGE TO TRY TO IDENTIFY A SHOOTER. CINCINNATI POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING AFTER REPORTS OF A SHOOTING DOWNTOWN. SOMEONE CALLED POLICE SAYING THEY SAW A PERSON LYING IN THE ROAD ON WEST 4TH STREET. THE VICTIM REPORTEDLY CRAWLED AWAY FROM THE SCENE. WHEN POLICE ARRIVED, THEY FOUND BLOOD BUT NO VICTIM. AND SO FAR, NO LOCAL HOSPITALS ARE REPORTING A SHOOTING VICTIM SHOWING UP TO BE TREATED. PEOPLE LIVING AT AN APARTMENT COMPLEX IN HARTWELL GOT THEIR WATER BACK LATE LAST NIGHT AFTER FOUR DAYS WITHOUT IT. MANAGEMENT AT THE WILLIAMSBURG OF CINCINNATI SENT AN EMAIL ABOUT AN EMERGENCY SHUT-OFF FRIDAY. &gt;&gt; THEY SAY THE WATER WILL BE BACK ON IN A COUPLE HOURS THEN WHAT? &gt;&gt; NOTHING. IT IS AWAITING A GAME. YOU TURN THE FAUCET ON AND TRY TO FLUSH THE TOILET AND YOU GET NOTHING. STEVEN: TENANTS LINED UP TO COMPLAIN AT THE LEASING OFFICE. WHEN WE WERE TALKING TO RESIDENTS WORKERS TOLD WLWT NEWS 5’S JATARA MCGEE TO LEAVE THE PROPERTY. &gt;&gt; WHAT SERVICES THEY CAN GET HELP FOR. &gt;&gt; YOUR WITH WLWT FIVE NEWS RIGHT NOW GET OFF MY PROPERTY RIGHT NOW. WE WILL CALL THE POLICE IF YOU DO NOT GET OFF MY PROPERTY. &gt;&gt; YOU HAVE NOTHING TO SAY ABOUT YOUR RESIDENT NOT HAVING WATER SINCE FRIDAY AND THURSDAY? &gt;&gt; IF YOU ASK THESE QUESTIONS YOU THINK THAT IS GOING TO HELP? &gt;&gt; THEY SAY GREATER CINCINNATI WATER WORKS SAYS A WATER LINE, OWNED BY WILLIAMSBURG, BROKE. AND REPAIR ATTEMPTS OVER THE WEEKEND WERE UNSUCCESSFUL. WATER WORKS HELPED PROPERTY MANAGEMENT. BUT A BOIL WATER ADVISORY CONTINUES THROUGH TOMORROW AS A PRECAUTION. NEW ON WLWT POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING AFTER A DRIVER HIT A PEDESTRIAN DOWNTOWN. THE CRASH HAPPENED ON EAST FIFTH STREET NEAR WALNUT STREET. POLICE SAY THE PEDESTRIAN WENT TO THE HOSPITAL WITH NON-LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES. THEY DID NOT SAY IF THE DRIVER STAYED ON SCENE OR WHO WAS AT FAULT. EVERYTHING WAS BACK OPEN BY 7:00 THIS MORNING. ALSO NEW AT NOON, A CAR CRASHES INTO A HOME IN SPRING GROVE VILLAGE, SENDING THREE PEOPLE TO THE HOSPTIAL. POLICE BELIEVE THE DRIVER WAS SPEEDING AND LOST CONTROL ON GRAY ROAD HITTING THE SI

<p>Authorities in California believe a Tesla, with four people inside, was intentionally driven off the Pacific Coast Highway in San Mateo County. </p>
<p>The vehicle was found hundreds of feet below a cliff on Monday. Officials who responded to the incident said the vehicle appeared to flip several times and land on its four wheels.</p>
<p>California Highway Patrol identified the driver as Dharmesh A. Patel of Pasadena. He was arrested for attempted murder and child abuse after investigators said they interviewed witnesses and collected evidence from the scene. However, they did not provide specifics. </p>
<p>"Mr. Patel is being treated for his injuries and will be booked into San Mateo County Jail upon his release from the hospital," a statement from California Patrol says.</p>
<p>Officials called it a "miracle" after discovering that the four individuals, including two children, survived the fall. </p>
<p>Emergency crews rappelled down the cliffside and pulled the two children from the vehicle.</p>
<p>A helicopter was called in to assist with the extrication and rescue of the two adults.</p>

<p>
					More than four years after a family from Mason was killed in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 75, the woman accused of killing them is on trial.Abby Michaels, 25, of Xenia, faces six counts of murder and three counts of aggravated vehicular homicide. Last Friday, three additional counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and an OVI charge were dismissed.On March 17, 2019, prosecutors said Michaels intentionally drove the wrong way on the interstate and crashed into another car killing Timmy Thompson, 51, his wife Karen Thompson, 50 and their 10-year-old daughter Tessa.The Thompsons were on their way home to Mason after visiting family when they were hit head-on."By nightfall, that living family was no longer alive," assistant Montgomery County prosecutor Bryan Moore said in his opening statement.Prosecutors said other drivers saw Michaels' car drive through an emergency turn-around and head north in the southbound lanes."And they watch in horror as that vehicle collides with the Thompson vehicle. That vehicle is being driven, controlled by Abby Michaels," Moore said. Defense attorney Jay Adams called what happened tragic but said there is more to the story."This issue is whether or not Abby Michaels acted knowingly. That's the whole case," Adams said. Adams said Michaels had suffered for years from a seizure disorder."At the end of this, Abby Michaels was involved in a tragic event with the Thompson family. That is very sad, but she didn't murder anybody. She suffered from a medical condition," Adams said.One of the first people to testify Monday was Michaels' husband at the time of the crash, Kyle Pastorelle. He had filed for divorce two days prior and was not with Michaels that night.Prosecutors showed surveillance footage of Michaels wearing a festive, green and white St. Patrick's Day hat at Ron's Pizza in Miamisburg.Prosecutors pointed her out in the video leaving the restaurant at 7:43 p.m. that night.Eleven minutes later, Pastorelle said Michaels called him asking to come over."I was pretty adamant on 'No, we're not doing this. It's not going to happen,' and that's when she told me that — she was driving at the time — and that's when she told me she was going to drive backwards on 75," Pastorelle said. Pastorelle said Michaels sent him a text message a few minutes later and said, "Goodbye. I love you. I'm dying now." By 8:10 p.m., Moraine police were dispatched to the deadly crash.During cross-examination, Pastorelle testified to Michaels' medical issues."You were asked about seizures and whether you've actually seen any in the seven years. You know she's had them, correct?" Adams asked.Pastorelle said, "Yeah."Adams asked, "You know she's been hospitalized for them, correct?""Yes," Pastorelle answered.The bench trial is expected to last most of the week.

<p>More than four years after a family from Mason was killed in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 75, the woman accused of killing them is on trial.</p>
<p>Abby Michaels, 25, of Xenia, faces six counts of murder and three counts of aggravated vehicular homicide. Last Friday, three additional counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and an OVI charge were dismissed.</p>

<p>On March 17, 2019, prosecutors said Michaels intentionally drove the wrong way on the interstate and crashed into another car killing Timmy Thompson, 51, his wife Karen Thompson, 50 and their 10-year-old daughter Tessa.</p>
<p>The Thompsons were on their way home to Mason after visiting family when they were hit head-on.</p>
<p>"By nightfall, that living family was no longer alive," assistant Montgomery County prosecutor Bryan Moore said in his opening statement.</p>
<p>Prosecutors said other drivers saw Michaels' car drive through an emergency turn-around and head north in the southbound lanes.</p>
<p>"And they watch in horror as that vehicle collides with the Thompson vehicle. That vehicle is being driven, controlled by Abby Michaels," Moore said. </p>
<p>Defense attorney Jay Adams called what happened tragic but said there is more to the story.</p>
<p>"This issue is whether or not Abby Michaels acted knowingly. That's the whole case," Adams said. </p>

<p>
					A wayward and unresponsive business plane that flew over the nation's capital Sunday afternoon caused the military to scramble a fighter jet before the plane crashed in Virginia, officials said. The fighter jet caused a loud sonic boom that was heard across the capital region.Hours later, police said rescuers had reached the site of the plane crash in a rural part of the Shenandoah Valley and that no survivors were found.The Federal Aviation Administration says the Cessna Citation took off from Elizabethtown, Tennessee, on Sunday and was headed for Long Island's MacArthur Airport. Inexplicably, the plane turned around over New York's Long Island and flew a straight path down over D.C. before it crashed over mountainous terrain near Montebello, Virginia, around 3:30 p.m.It was not immediately clear why the plane was nonresponsive, why it crashed or how many people were on board. The plane flew directly over the nation's capital, though it was technically flying above some of the most heavily restricted airspace in the nation.A U.S. official confirmed to The Associated Press that the military jet had scrambled to respond to the small plane, which wasn't responding to radio transmissions and later crashed. The official was not authorized to publicly discuss details of the military operation and spoke on condition of anonymity.Flight tracking sites showed the jet suffered a rapid spiraling descent, dropping at one point at a rate of more than 30,000 feet per minute before crashing in the St. Mary's Wilderness.The North American Aerospace Defense Command later said in a statement that the F-16 was authorized to travel at supersonic speeds, which caused a sonic boom that was heard in Washington and parts of Virginia and Maryland."During this event, the NORAD aircraft also used flares – which may have been visible to the public – in an attempt to draw attention from the pilot," the statement said. "Flares are employed with highest regard for safety of the intercepted aircraft and people on the ground. Flares burn out quickly and completely and there is no danger to the people on the ground when dispensed."Virginia State Police said officers were notified of the potential crash shortly before 4 p.m. and rescuers reached the crash site by foot around four hours later. No survivors were found, police said.The plane that crashed was registered to Encore Motors of Melbourne Inc, which is based in Florida. John Rumpel, who runs the company, told The New York Times that his daughter, 2-year-old granddaughter, her nanny and the pilot were aboard the plane. They were returning to their home in East Hampton, on Long Island, after visiting his house in North Carolina, he said.Rumpel, a pilot, told the newspaper he didn't have much information from authorities but hoped his family didn't suffer and suggested the plane could've lost pressurization."I don't think they've found the wreckage yet," Rumpel told the newspaper. "It descended at 20,000 feet a minute, and nobody could survive a crash from that speed."A woman who identified herself as Barbara Rumpel, listed as the president of the company, said she had no comment Sunday when reached by The Associated Press.The episode brought back memories of the 1999 crash of a Learjet that lost cabin pressure and flew aimlessly across the country with professional golfer Payne Stewart aboard. The jet crashed in a South Dakota pasture and six people died.President Joe Biden was playing golf at Joint Base Andrews around the time the fighter jet took off. Anthony Guglielmi, spokesperson for the U.S. Secret Service, said the incident had no impact on the president's movements Sunday. Biden was playing golf at the Maryland military base with his brother in the afternoon.A White House official said the president had been briefed on the crash and that the sound of the scrambling aircraft was faint at Joint Base Andrews.___Associated Press writers Chris Megerian and Zeke Miller in Washington and Christopher Weber in Los Angeles contributed to this report.

											NEW INFORMATION AFTER A POLICE PURSUIT ENDS IN A DEADLY CRASH... NOW I NEWS 5 TODAY NEW INFORMATION AFTER A POLICE PURSUIT ENDS IN A DEADLY CRASH. WHY AN OFFICER NOW FACES A RECKLESS HOMICIDE CHARGE. AND WHAT A POLICE REPORT REVEALS ABOUT HIS VERSION OF THE EVENTS. PLUS, TASTE OF CINCINNATI KICKS OFF IN JUST AN HOUR. WE’LL SHOW YOU THE WIDE VARIETY OF CUISINE THAT YOU CAN TRY OUT AT ONE OF THE QUEEN CITY’S LARGER CELEBRATIONS OF FOOD. AND IT’S A MIXED WEEKEND OF WEATHER WITH A BEAUTIFUL START TODAY. AND THEN SHOWERS CHANGES BY SUNDAY AND INTO PARTS OF MONDAY. AHEAD ALL TIME OUT, THE RAIN THREATS. AND IF YOU NEED TO ADJUST ANY PLANS THIS IS WLWT NEWS 5 TODAY LEADING THE WAY. GOOD MORNING AND THANKS FOR SPENDING PART OF YOUR MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND WITH US. TIME TO HAVE ME WILSON HERE WITH METEOROLOGIST ADAM BURNISTON. A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS WEEKEND FOR THE POOL OPENINGS. CONEY ISLAND, TASTE OF CINCINNATI. YOU HAD THE TOUGH JOB OF DOING SOME TASTING AT TASTE AND IT WAS ALL THE DESSERTS. YEAH, WE GOT TO KIND OF PREVIEW SOME MEDIA FOLKS, SOME OTHER FOLKS AMONG THE COMMUNITY AND GREAT FOOD OF AT LEAST WHAT WE TRIED OUT THERE. SO I CAN ONLY IMAGINE ALL THE GREAT FOOD OUT THERE FOR TODAY, THROUGH THIS WEEKEND. NOT BAD WEATHER TO GO ALONG WITH IT EITHER. WE HAVE SUNNY SKIES OUT THERE TODAY. SOME RAIN, THOUGH, COMING IN TO THE FORECAST FOR TOMORROW. YOU SEE RIGHT NOW SITTING RIGHT AT 65 DEGREES. THOSE WINDS OUT OF THE EAST NORTHEAST, SEVEN MILES AN HOUR. SO A NICE LITTLE BREEZE OUT THERE AS WELL. JUST ADDING TO THAT BEAUTIFUL DAY, 65 HERE, 64 IN OTHER PLACES, 61 IN LAKELAND, 62 SHARE, ANVIL, 64 UP IN WESTCHESTER. AS WE GET KIND OF A REGIONAL VIEW, MANY AREAS GETTING INTO THAT 60 DEGREE MARK OUTSIDE KIND OF THE METRO AREA WITH 61 IN MT. AWE OF 59 STILL OUT THERE IN BATESVILLE. LIKE I MENTIONED, WE’RE STAYING DRY FOR TODAY. THOSE TEMPERATURES GOING TO BE WARMING UP THROUGH THE SEVENTIES. EVENTUALLY, BY THIS AFTERNOON, REACHING THEIR WAY INTO THE UPPER SEVENTIES AND 80 DEGREES. YOU’LL ALSO NOTICE WHILE IT’S SUNNY RIGHT NOW, CLOUDY, IT’S GOING TO BE INCREASING THROUGHOUT THE DAY AND DEFINITELY MOSTLY CLOUDY AS WE HEAD INTO TONIGHT. THAT’S AHEAD OF OUR NEXT SYSTEM THAT BRINGS IN RAIN CHANCES FOR PARTS OF SUNDAY INTO PARTS OF MONDAY. IT’S NOT GOING TO BE A WASHOUT. SO THAT IS THE GOOD NEWS. BUT IT’S ENOUGH FOR RAIN TO AT LEAST BE A LITTLE BIT IMPACTFUL. SO AHEAD IN MY FORECAST, WE’RE GOING TO BE TIMING OUT WHEN THAT RAIN ARRIVES. WHO COULD SEE THE LARGER IMPACTS BECAUSE IT’S GOING TO BE AFFECTING SOME AREAS MORE THAN OTHERS. BUT I’LL TALK ABOUT THOSE IMPACTS AND WHAT WE CAN EXPECT FOR YOUR MEMORIAL DAY PLANS ON MONDAY. SO WE’LL HAVE THAT MORE COMING UP HERE IN JUST A LITTLE BIT. TIFFANY, ADAM, THANK YOU. A MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND TRADITION RETURNS TO DOWNTOWN CINCINNATI TODAY. It's *** call. No spouse wants to get. I've had him call me before on his way home saying, hey, I'm gonna be late. I'm on *** crash. And so in my head, that's what I heard. And then I was like, wait *** minute, he just said you were in *** crash. And I was like, did you have *** tire blow or? He's like, no, I was in *** head on Nicole mccoy's husband, Utah Highway patrol trooper sergeant Chad mccoy risked his life, Tuesday afternoon to save the lives of other drivers. I just finished my shift in county. So I just crossed over into the county and I didn't hear anything on the radio. At that time, I just noticed any cars moving to the right and then this truck was in the wrong direction and I realized it's actually traveling sergeant mccoy had just seconds to make *** decision. Dash cam video shows the moment he intentionally hit the wrong way driver to get the best I could to try to stop mccoy has received praise from many for his heroic actions, but to him, he's just doing his job. I just view myself as just *** regular, I really think that we all have that mindset. We all come to work every day just trying to keep people safe. In Tuesday's crash, everyone involved was able to return home. But HP Colonel Michael Rapid says that's not always the case. Runway driving often way too often have severe outcomes. And tragic outcomes includes fatalities and life threatening injuries. When crashes involving lone way drivers occur. They're violent, they're tragic and they're horrible. Sergeant mccoy is grateful he was able to come home to his wife of 12 years, Nicole and their four kids just seeing him. I, I was, I wanted to just hug him but I was like, oh, I don't know if he's injured. So it was more, he's, he's standing, he's alive, he's breathing. Let's make sure we can get him to the doctor.

					A police officer died and another was injured after a police helicopter crashed in southern California Saturday night, officials said.The two officers were aboard the Huntington Beach Police Department's helicopter "HB1" responding to a disturbance call when it crashed into the water in Newport Beach, police chief Eric Parra said during a news conference.Officer Nicholas Vella, 44, died from injuries suffered in the crash, the police chief said."Our deepest sympathies to the family of Officer Vella," said Huntington Beach Mayor Barbara Delgleize. "This tragic accident serves as a reminder of the danger and the risks that our police officers put themselves in on a daily basis to protect our community."Another officer, a 16-year veteran, was rescued and taken to a hospital where he is in stable condition, police said.Authorities are uncertain why the helicopter crashed, and an investigation is underway as the police department inspects other aircrafts, Parra said.Huntington Beach police "and the law enforcement community have lost an officer that was truly dedicated to his job, that was doing what he loved doing, and this is a tragedy that we are investigating," Parra said.The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Orange County Sheriff's Department major accident reconstruction team are investigating the crash, according to Parra.Huntington Beach and Newport Beach are adjoining seaside communities in Orange County, California.This crash comes on the heels of another helicopter wreck just hours earlier near the shoreline of Miami Beach.At approximately 1:10 p.m. Saturday, captured in a stunning video, a helicopter crashed into the Atlantic Ocean off Miami Beach, injuring two people. The two injured passengers were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. Their conditions were described as "stable." A third passenger was not injured in the crash, according to Miami Beach Police Public Information Officer Ernesto Rodriguez.

					A Massachusetts man is suing Uber and one of the company's drivers, claiming he was left a quadriplegic following a crash because the company was negligent.Attorneys for 31-year-old William Good said the crash happened on April 30, 2021, on Highland Avenue in Somerville. Good, who was a passenger in the vehicle, said he felt the vehicle swerve before it crashed into a parked car, according to his attorneys. The Uber driver allegedly asked Good to get up, insisting he was not injured, Good's attorneys claim.The lawsuit claims Uber "failed to appropriately screen, hire and supervise their driver, resulting in severe and life-changing injuries to Mr. Good, who is now a quadriplegic."“I struggle daily with the knowledge that this Uber employee was hired as a professional driver – the last thing he should have been hired to do. But most of all, I struggle to understand how a company that is so sophisticated has been completely unable to ensure the safety of its drivers on the roads,” Good said.Good is seeking $63 million in damages.Uber has not commented on the lawsuit.
