<p>According to ESPN and Sports Illustrated, the College Football Playoff's board of managers voted Friday to approve a 12-team playoff. </p>
<p>A timetable for implementing the 12-team playoff is reportedly not set in stone. The Athletic and Sports Illustrated say it could happen as early as 2024. ESPN reports it's expected to start in 2026. </p>
<p>The playoff is expected to feature the six highest-ranked conference champions and six at-large bids, Sports Illustrated reports. </p>
<p>The current playoff only features four teams. The format has been criticized for leaving teams out that may have a chance to win a national championship. </p>

<p>College bowl games kicked off Friday, drawing in audiences from across the country.</p>
<p>Aside from the excitement of playing in a bowl game, it appears players are benefitting academically from making it into the postseason.</p>
<p>Researchers analyzed three academic categories: Retention rates, team GPA requirements and credit hour requirements.</p>
<p>Overall, academic progress rates were slightly higher among football players who competed in bowl games.</p>
<p>"There could be positive effects of continuing to stay with your team, having the resources of being on campus working with the coaches working with athletic um support staff," said Bradley Curs, an associate professor at the University of Missouri.</p>
<p>Although this study focused on college football players, researchers say the findings can translate to other extracurriculars.</p>
<p>Past research has shown students perform better when they feel involved on campus.</p>
<p>"Being connected through sports, through music programs, through clubs, organizations, really does help students... stay connected to their campus to give them something interesting to work on and study that keeps them excited about coming," Curs said.</p>

<p>
The Fenway Bowl and Military Bowl were both canceled due to the pandemic on Sunday as coronavirus outbreaks at Virginia and Boston College forced them to call off their postseason plans. The game scheduled for Wednesday at Fenway Park was to pit the Cavaliers against SMU. The Military Bowl scheduled for Monday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland, between Boston College and East Carolina was canceled because of positive COVID-19 tests at BC."This is not the way we wanted to see this season come to an end," Eagles coach Jeff Hafley said. "We just do not have enough players to safely play a game. My heart goes out to our seniors who will not have one final opportunity to wear a BC jersey and I can’t thank them enough for all the contributions they made to our program."The Fenway Bowl was supposed to bring a college football postseason game to the century-old home of the Boston Red Sox, but those plans have been stymied twice by the pandemic. It was to be the last game for Virginia coach Bronco Mendenhall, who announced his resignation after the Cavaliers concluded a 6-6 regular season. But leading up to the team's planned departure on Christmas Day, players began showing symptoms of COVID-19 and tested positive. The full team was tested in the morning, and additional positive results came back on Sunday."Playing this game was something our team very much looked forward to and it is unfortunate Coach Mendenhall will not have one last opportunity to coach this group," Virginia athletic director Carla Williams said. "We appreciate all of the hard work by our team and coaching staff. They earned this bowl invitation, and it is unfortunate they will not be able to compete in the game to complete the season."It's the second year in a row that the pandemic has spoiled bowl bids for Boston College and SMU."I’m disappointed for our fans, and even more disappointed for our players, that we will be unable to play in a bowl game for the second straight season," Mustangs AD Rick Hart said. "We are, however, sympathetic to Virginia’s situation, having had to withdraw from our bowl last season due to COVID. We hope those impacted get well soon."The BC players voted not to go to a postseason game last year because of the emotional toll the pandemic season had taken. This year's team went 6-6 (2-6 Atlantic Coast Conference) to gain bowl eligibility and had already traveled to the Washington, D.C., area for Monday's game. But athletic director Pat Kraft said more than 40 players were unavailable due to COVID-19, injuries, opt-outs and transfers."We just do not have enough players to field a team," he said. "We are disappointed not to be able to finish the season together as a team, but the health and safety of our program is our highest priority."The Hawaii Bowl was canceled earlier after Hawaii withdrew from its game against Memphis on the eve of Thursday's contest because of COVID-19, season-ending injuries and transfers. And Rutgers will replace Texas A&amp;M in the Gator Bowl against Wake Forest on New Year's Eve after the Aggies pulled out because of a lack of available players. The UConn women's basketball game against Marquette on Dec. 29 was also canceled on Sunday because of coronavirus issues within the Marquette program.

Mhm. Keep you abreast. What's yourself? It was a secret yesterday about the outfit daleks officially out. You kind of break it down. What are you thinking a little bit about it, it wasn't too crazy, I mean, it's not a huge story behind it, it's like a jacket, like how it came together Each way, three for the shoes, and that was a good fit, the way I say, it wasn't like, not a long, long story behind and I just was a fan. Yeah, now that was, that was a big topic. I had a lot of, had a lot of, lot of suggestions, a lot of input I told everyone just, I had, I had uh I haven't, so hopefully I'm making more proud. I hope so, because there was a lot of opinions that went into probably, so people are gonna talk about a Heisman moment, but when you look back on this season, whether it's the game, but it's going to get their moment in the season that you told yourself around, I could be one of the best players in the country and following um I want to say it's a specific moment um you know, you kinda have to, you know, in those situations um and whenever adversity hits you, you have to believe that you have to have that faith in yourself, that faith in your team um and really that comes from, you know, that comes from the work that, you know, we all put in the off season, that comes from how we all grow um come together during practices and during games um so I want to say it's a specific moments where I had it developed and if it's kind of something that I always had and you kind of learn for yourself and to the team just how you work it, how you compete and obviously known in there, you're known for being a very quiet person, but at the moment, what do you want that championship secured Alabama spot in the playoff part contains the most? Uh yeah, I mean that that's, you know, that's definitely very emotional moment. You know, it's uh you just have to make sure that, you know, you have to kind of make sure that those emotions are are tempered and you got to really understand the circumstances. Um you know, when you're playing for me um you know, I feel like I, I just operate the best when I can kind of take those emotions and be calm, but you know, after the game, when the time is over, Um you know, when you get that that time, the locker room to where you know, you get to celebrate a little bit of rejoice um during those 24 hours, directly after the game, it's always fun and those are moments that you never forget. So after the game, that's kind of when it's time to let those emotions go. So it was definitely, it's definitely great to have those, you know, kinda have one of those moments after the game and um you know, we want to, we have a lot of hard work and work ahead of us to try to have more of those women's. It was the key to the 20 round between Georgia. Great. I haven't spoken to coach balancing. Yeah, there are two others at and yeah, and Melanie, yeah, there are two others at a modern day, which is, was crazy. But yeah, it was really just, I felt like how we, how we work, how we approached, um, you know, how we approach practice, how we approach uh, you know, each day and kind of the mindset we took and things really took it personally. Um, when we were challenging, that was at hand and um, you know, we stepped up to the plate and that was all of us and how we worked and the coach is doing a great job, putting us in a position to be successful. Um, so I think that was kind of the biggest thing and I, yeah, I talked to uh, talked to coach, although he's wishing me luck and uh, a ton of love for cultural, oh those, those are great years for me. So it's been great to kind of do what I can to try to continue that legacy. It today. You talked a little bit about your dad a turnover. What would you be like without him helping you through your college high school? Tell me a little bit about destroying. Yeah, I couldn't imagine my dad's been someone who's obviously been around since thinking don't always have my back and um you know, it's someone I talked to uh consistently not just about football and not just for advice about really any any and everything. Um we'll talk about it and have a conversation about, so you know, obviously been um my parents been the biggest mentors in my life and the biggest reason why I am, who I am, so um I couldn't even imagine who I'd be without my dad. Mhm They're gonna happen tonight at that moment. Um it's funny all the advice I've done from back, especially um it's all been about not not focusing too much on your words and you know, making sure that the focus stays on, you know, on football and you know, that's definitely something that's on par with, with Alabama part of myself um just to, you know, just to enjoy the moment and have fun, but also, you know, just remember the important stuff to keep it like that, you know, that's kind of something that, you know, you need to hear and something something that my mind set set actually, so that's kind of the biggest thing that stands out to me in a moment. Uh yeah, I think it was, it was probably probably the, cause game, they say we did that earlier today and you know, Kenny just got here today, so that was the first, today was the first day that we were all, all four of us were together. So it was all of us in the same, you know, all of us were able to, you know, do together and it was, it was a really cool atmosphere. It was cause game day and then, you know, they're the army and navy fans in the background and being on there with the set and the cast is a really fun experience. So that was really fun moment for that rice. We talked yesterday, Jamison Wilson's kind of impact he's had, but specifically on your offense and given the guys that you lost last year, how does that change things for you guys and see where you're, yeah, gaming has been huge for us. Um, he's been huge. Um, as far as, you know, obviously production on the field and uh, the things that he breaches to our offense and the dimensions and the stuff that he unlocks or, you know, it's been huge for us and it's productivity, but also it's a lot that he brings. Um, you know, not just on Saturdays, but you know, throughout the week, he brings so much juice to practice and so much energy. Um, you know, he's someone that, it's always, oh a, if there's, you know, there's never a dull moment, which, you know, he's always going to make sure that we're all point who is Boys going going hard and fast and he's always giving 110%. So we need that. You know that when you have someone like that who's energy and effort really shines like it does it rubs off on everybody. So he's been really ensure our success is you'd be surprised a little bit. Um you know, I guess you could say so just because I didn't know him that well before, so I didn't know what to expect something. I didn't know uh you know when he, when he had transferred I looked up, you know, hooked up, you know, try to do some research about of them, but I didn't know what to expect. And you know when I first met him it was it was carried out article worker was how you know how how cool he was to be around, how easy was it working, you know, just to see examples of that to see how it all worked out, how it played out. You know, it's been huge for us, our systems. Yeah. We've got a few months, like a few months. I lived in Cali like my whole life was a yeah

<p>Big Ten coaches, athletic directors and medical personnel are working on multiple plans for staging a football season — including one that would have the league kicking off as soon as Thanksgiving weekend.</p>
<p>The conference is in the early stages of a complicated process that also involves broadcast partners and possible neutral-site venues, a person with direct knowledge of the conference’s discussions told The Associated Press.</p>
<p>The person spoke Friday on condition of anonymity because the Big Ten was not making public its efforts to have a football season that starts in either late fall or winter. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel first reported the Big Ten was considering a possible Thanksgiving start to the season.</p>
<p>The Big Ten announced on Aug. 11 it was postponing its fall football season because of concerns about playing during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Pac-12 soon followed suit, but six other major college football conferences, including the powerhouse Southeastern Conference, are still forging ahead toward a season that will start in September.</p>
<p>The Big Ten and first-year commissioner Kevin Warren have faced pushback and criticism ever since, including a <a class="Link" href="https://apnews.com/a1bf5241701ab9f5a7551e99bf719f66">lawsuit filed by eight Nebraska players</a> who want the decision overturned.</p>
<p>The Big Ten’s decision and the subsequent backlash have trickled into politics in this election year, with Democrats and Republicans pointing fingers over who is responsible for taking away college football in the Midwest.</p>
<p>“No, I want Big Ten, and all other football, back - NOW,” President Donald Trump tweeted. “The Dems don’t want football back, for political reasons, but are trying to blame me and the Republicans. Another LIE, but this is what we are up against!"</p>
<p>Any plan will need the approval of university presidents and chancellors, and the Big Ten will only play if certain benchmarks related to the coronavirus — such as transmission rates, testing capacity and availability, and testing accuracy — are met in each of the 11 states that are home to the league’s 14 schools.</p>
<p>“If they are met, that’s when they’ll get back,” the person told AP.</p>
<p>Several coaches, including Ohio State’s Ryan Day, have already said the sooner the Big Ten can start a delayed season the better. Day has endorsed starting in early January and that idea has been on the table practically since the decision to postpone came down, the person said.</p>
<p>Starting in late fall was an idea some coaches laid out earlier this week, the person said.</p>
<p>One option includes playing games at domed stadiums across the Midwest, including in Indianapolis, Minneapolis and Detroit, another person with knowledge of the discussions told AP on condition of anonymity.</p>
<p>The person said using neutral sites could help broadcast partners televise the games and help avoid potential complications of playing through winter weather.</p>
<p>A two-pronged-plan, laying out a framework for how a season can be staged and what benchmarks need to be met for it to be safe enough to play during the pandemic, could be rolled out by the Big Ten within two weeks, the first person said.</p>

<p>In 2013, the NCAA ended its relationship with EA Sports amid legal concerns that college football players’ name, image and likeness were being used in the NCAA Football series.</p>
<p>After eight years, EA Sports announced on Tuesday that it plans on making a new college football video game, although it is unclear if it will be produced in time for the 2021 season.</p>
<p>It is also unclear whether the NCAA will be involved in any way with the new video game. EA Sports said it obtained licenses through CLC, which will allow EA Sports to use the names, logos and stadiums of more than 100 college football programs. EA Sports noted that the new video game will initially not include name, image and likeness of players.</p>
<p>The last college football video game released by EA Sports was NCAA Football 14, which was produced in 2013. In the eight years since, the game has gained a sort of cult following, with users creating their own updated rosters as new players develop.</p>
<p>"We’ve heard from the millions of passionate fans requesting the return of college football video games,” said Cam Weber, EA SPORTS executive vice president and GM. “We love the energy, tradition and pageantry of college football and I am beyond thrilled to say we are back in development. We have a lot of really exciting work ahead of us, and a great team that is eager to bring a new game to players in the next couple of years.”</p>
<p>Following the NCAA’s decision in 2013 to end its contract with EA Sports, the NCAA reached a settlement with former football and men’s basketball athletes for $20 million as a group of former players claimed they were not compensated for their image and likeness being used in previous video games.</p>

<p>New research published in <a class="Link" href="https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamaneurology/article-abstract/2775971" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jama Neurology</a> found that college football players suffer more concussions during practice than in games.</p>
<p>The research tracked players from six Division I schools over five seasons and found 72% of concussions happened during practice.</p>
<p>"These data point to a powerful opportunity for policy, education, and other prevention strategies to make the greatest overall reduction in concussion incidence and HIE in college football, particularly during preseason training and football practices throughout the season, without major modification to gameplay," researchers said. "Strategies to prevent concussion and HIE have important implications to protecting the safety and health of football players at all competitive levels."</p>
<p>According to researchers, 528,684 head impacts were recorded from 658 players over five seasons.</p>
<p>Research showed that 48.5% of concussions occurred during preseason training, despite preseason representing only 20.8% of the season.</p>
