GEORGETOWN, Ohio —

Former Cincinnati Reds all-star Tom Browning was arrested for driving under the influence over the weekend.

According to court documents, Browning has been charged with two counts of OVI, failure to stay in marked lanes and failure to maintain control.

According to police, the alleged offenses occurred Saturday night on Sunset Boulevard in Georgetown, Ohio.

Police records showed Browning’s blood-alcohol level was an 0.127. The legal limit is 0.8.

Browning posted a $2,000 bond and is expected back in court on Sept. 14.

Browning is the only Reds pitcher, to pitch a perfect game.

The former Cincinnati Red threw the MLB's 12th perfect game back in 1988.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Paul Goldschmidt gave St. Louis the lead with his second homer of the game as the Cardinals tightened up the NL wild-card race with a 5-4 win over the Cincinnati Reds in the opener of a doubleheader on Wednesday.

The Reds entered the day tied with San Diego for the second NL wild card, 2 1/2 games of St. Louis and Philadelphia.

The Cardinals trailed 4-3 before Goldschmidt drove his third homer of the series into the last section of seats in deep right-center with Tommy Edman on first base.

The doubleheader was scheduled after Tuesday’s game was postponed because of rain.

The Reds have lost four straight for the first time since dropping four in a row from July 16-19.

The Cardinals bashed three homers among their 12 hits off Wade Miley (11-5), both season highs for the left-hander. Miley gave up five runs with one walk and two strikeouts in four innings for his first loss in 16 starts since coming off the injured list on May 30.

Reliever Génesis Cabrera (3-5) pitched two scoreless innings for St. Louis. Giovanny Gallegos pitched the seventh for his fourth save and second in the Cardinals’ last two games, both against Cincinnati.

The Reds scored three runs in the third inning, equaling the total from their previous three games combined. Miley drove in two with an opposite-field double to left.

Goldschmidt, the game’s second batter, launched a changeup off the ribbon message board atop the center field batter’s eye. He now has 24 homers this season.

St. Louis right-hander Miles Mikolas lasted only three innings in his third start since coming off the injured list on August 20. He allowed five hits and four runs with one walk and three strikeouts.

MIAMI (AP) — Wade Miley pitched six-hit ball over seven innings, Tyler Naquin homered and extended his major league-leading hitting streak, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Miami Marlins 6-0 Friday night.

Miley (11-4) struck out five, walked one and hit a run-scoring double. The 34-year-old left-hander lowered his ERA to 2.74 and hasn’t lost since May 19, a span of 16 starts.

Naquin had three hits to stretch his hitting streak to 16 games, the longest current run in the majors. Mike Moustakas also went deep for the Reds, who began Friday two games ahead of San Diego for the second NL wild card.

Moustakas and Miley had RBI doubles in a four-run fourth. With Moustakas at second and first base open, the Marlins intentionally walked Max Schrock to face Miley, who hit a hard grounder that bounced inside the third base line and rolled to the left-field corner. Schrock and Miley later scored on shortstop Miguel Rojas’ throwing error for a 5-0 lead.

Cincinnati increased its advantage on Moustakas’ solo blast in the eighth. Moustakas drove reliever Paul Campbell’s first pitch to the upper deck in right for his sixth homer of the season.

Jeff Hoffman relieved Miley and pitched two scoreless innings around two walks.

Naquin gave Cincinnati a quick lead with his 19th homer, a solo shot off starter Zach Thompson in the first.

Thompson (2-6) was lifted for a pinch hitter after five innings. The right-hander allowed five runs, six hits, struck out one and walked one.

ROSTER MOVE

The Reds claimed IF Asdrúbal Cabrera off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks. Cabrera, who is expected to join the club Saturday, appeared in 90 games with Arizona in 2021 and hit .244 with seven homers and 40 RBIs.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Sonny Gray pitched one-hit ball through seven scoreless innings, Tyler Naquin and Joey Votto homered in the fifth, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Miami Marlins 5-3 on Friday night.

Gray (5-6) had a 7.22 ERA over his previous six starts but was efficient against Miami. He needed eight pitches in each of the first two innings, then worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth, whiffing Lewis Brinson on three pitches to end the threat.

The right-hander retired Miami in order in five of his seven innings and exited after throwing 89 pitches. He struck out five.

“Maybe as good as he’s been all year,” Reds manager David Bell said. “Just in complete command.”

Bell said sitting Gray after the seventh was done for no other reason than to help preserve his arm for the season’s stretch run.

“Sonny, he’s always going to give you a chance to win,” Naquin said. “Sonny keeps a good pace and just goes out there and pounds the strike zone and gets outs. You give him a little bit of a cushion, and he just gets quicker and gets better as the day goes on.”

Naquin hit a one-out shot in the fifth before right-hander Elieser Hernandez plunked Nick Castellanos, who had an RBI double in the first. Votto then blasted the next pitch 432 feet into the seats in right-center field.

“He’s locked in,” Bell said of Votto, who hit a three-run homer on Thursday and now has 28. “It’s a difficult game, even for Joey, but he’s playing with confidence and freedom. He’s enjoying being at the plate.”

Votto has 17 homers in the last 29 games.

“Joey made us pay again,” Miami manager Don Mattingly said. “He’s just not missing right now.”

Hernandez (0-1) struck out Kyle Farmer for the second out in the fifth but was done for the night. He allowed five runs and five hits through 4 2/3 innings as Cincinnati took the first two of a four-game set from the Marlins after losing a series to the Cubs.

Lucas Sims came on for the Reds in the eighth and didn’t fare as well, surrendering a one-out, three-run homer to Jazz Chishom Jr. before getting out of it. Mychal Givens pitched a scoreless ninth for his fourth save, striking out Alex Jackson to end it.

STREAK FIZZLES

Tucker Barnhart’s franchise record errorless streak for a catcher came to an end at 161 games. Barnhart was charged with an error in the fourth inning when he was called for catcher’s interference because Jesús Aguilar’s swing came in contact with the catcher’s mitt, awarding him first base.

He last committed an error on July 26, 2019, a stretch of more than 2,000 innings.

“It was good run,” Barnhart said. “It wasn’t something I was really aware of. To have come to an end like that kind of stinks. I don’t think I did anything wrong.”

CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Reds and Fox Sports Ohio announced Thursday afternoon that John Sadak will be the new play-by-play announcer for the team.

Sadak most recently worked as a national TV play-by-play announcer for CBS Sports and a radio play-by-play announcer locally for the New York Mets.

He brings experience calling games in the NFL, NBA, MLB, and college sports, including football, basketball and major and minor league baseball.

"My family and I are beyond thrilled at this tremendous opportunity. Calling Major League Baseball games full-time has been my career and life goal for many years,” Sadak said. “The chance to do so for the Cincinnati Reds, a franchise known for its rich, extensive history and passionate, loyal fanbase, is a dream come true. We can't wait to immerse ourselves in our new home city and ballpark. Baseball's legendary Opening Day can't arrive fast enough."

Sadak tales over playcalling duties from Thom Brennaman, who was suspended Aug. 19, 2020 for using a homophobic slur on the air. He later resigned his position as the Reds play-by-play announcer and apologized for what he said.

Last season’s Cincinnati Reds team made the newly expanded playoffs as the No. 7 seed in the National League but later were swept by the Atlanta Braves.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Michael Hermosillo homered for the first time since 2018, Ian Happ and Sergio Alcántara also went deep, and the depleted Chicago Cubs beat the Cincinnati Reds 7-1 on Wednesday, taking two of three from their playoff-contending NL Central rivals.

“If you can come out of there with a series win you feel really good, and it feels like it’s been a little while since we’ve done that,” Cubs manager David Ross said. “That was really just a good offensive team. Our pitching showed up.”

Frank Schwindel and Rafael Ortega also drove in runs for the Cubs, who ended a 12-game skid a day earlier. Schwindel, Chicago’s regular first baseman since Anthony Rizzo was dealt to the Yankees at the deadline, had six hits in the series and is batting .329.

Adrian Sampson, called up from Triple-A Iowa earlier in the day to pitch in the majors for the first time since 2019, held the suddenly quiet Reds to one run and five hits in four innings.

Relievers Manuel Rodríguez (1-2), Rowan Wick, Adam Morgan and Trevor Megill blanked Cincinnati over the final five innings, allowing one hit.

Reds starter Tyler Mahle (10-4) gave up five runs and eight hits in five innings. Jeff Hoffman came on in the sixth and promptly surrendered Alcántara’s homer.

After exploding for 14 runs in the series opener Monday night, Cincinnati managed a single run in each of the last two games.

The Cubs banged out 12 hits and won for the fourth time in 19 games since trading stars Rizzo, Kris Bryant, Javier Báez and Craig Kimbrel.

Happ’s first-inning homer was his second in as many games. Hermosillo, called up from Triple-A on Tuesday, slammed a 441-foot, two-run bomb into the upper deck in left field during a four-run second.

Tyler Naquin homered in the second, the only time Cincinnati got a runner past second base. The top five Reds hitters combined to go 1-for-19.

“We know every game takes our best,” Reds manager David Bell said. “Today (Sampson) pitched a good game against us. He threw the ball inside, and did a good job against the top of our lineup.”

BATTLING FOR A ROLE

Sampson said he knew when he was called up that he could stake his claim for a spot in Chicago’s rotation.

“Right now it’s almost ‘Game of Thrones’-esque,” he said. “We’re being asked what kind of role do we want to play in this organization going forward. It’s ours for the taking. If you want it, you got to go get it. I really want this job, and I’m going to do everything I can to be successful.”

IMAGINE THAT

Hermosillo’s only other major league homer was on Sept. 28, 2018, when he was with the Los Angeles Angels. The opposing pitcher for Texas was Sampson.

“I didn’t feel like that was something I should bring up,” Hermosillo said. Sampson said he didn’t realize it until Wednesday.

SHORTSTOP OF THE FUTURE?

The Reds are getting their first good look this season at their top minor league prospect, Jose Barrero, who had been tearing it up in the minors. Barrero — then known as Jose Garcia — was with the major league club last season for 24 games but hit poorly. The 23-year-old was recalled Tuesday after hitting .303 with 17 home runs and 62 RBIs at Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Louisville. He got the start Wednesday and went 2 for 3 with a walk, including a ninth-inning double.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Mike Moustakas went 3 for 4 with three doubles and two RBIs in his return from the injured list to spark the Cincinnati Reds to a 10-0 rout of the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night.

Tucker Barnhart hit a three-run homer, Jesse Winker and Jonathan India each hit solo homers and the Reds moved within three games of the Padres for the second NL Wild Card spot.

For the sixth time this season, the Reds scored at least 10 runs for Wade Miley (9-4), who allowed only six hits through seven innings.

Pirates starter JT Brubaker (4-11) owned a 1.76 ERA in three previous starts against Cincinnati, but was hit hard on Friday.

Moustakas — who came off the IL on Friday after missing 68 games with a right heel contusion — had a two-run double in his first at-bat.

Barnhart’s three-run blast to right capped off a seven-run first inning.

Winker led off the second with his 22nd homer of the season. Moustakas doubled and scored on Kyle Farmer’s single and the Reds led 9-0 after two innings.

Moustakas is the first Reds batter with three doubles in a game since Jose Peraza did it on Aug. 15, 2018 against Cleveland.

India’s solo homer off Kyle Keller in the sixth capped the scoring. It was his fourth homer in seven games.

Votto is one at-bat away from tying Dale Long, Don Mattingly and Ken Griffey, Jr for the MLB record for home runs in 8 consecutive games.

How do you measure progress? It starts with knowing history.

If you’re a baseball fan, you know about the Negro Leagues. These leagues gave Black players Satchel Paige, Jackie Robinson and even Hank Aaron the ability to exercise their talents and passion back when it wasn’t acceptable to play with their white counterparts.

But you might not know about the most notable all-Black team that played in Cincinnati: The Cincinnati Tigers, who hit the field in the early '30s.

“The Tigers used the Reds home ballpark, Crosley Field, when the club was on the road," said Chris Eckes, chief curator at the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame. "It was not unusual for the Tigers to actually draw bigger crowds than the Reds did at the time.”

The Tigers wore old Reds uniforms and fed a community that could not see players of color on the field at Reds games.

“This was a team that had a number of very talented players," Eckes said. "They were competitive in the league that they played in. In 1937, they played in the Negro American League.”

However, due to lack of funding, the Tigers existence came to an end after that season.

“The Tigers' history was brief, but it was impactful,” Eckes said.

In August 2017, the Reds wore Tigers uniforms during a game. In the summer of 2020, the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum featured an exhibit paying tribute to the Negro Leagues, and in August, the Reds celebrated the leagues’ 100th anniversary.

In December of 2020, 75 years after Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier, Major League Baseball added the Negro League stats to its official records.

“For a lot of historians, that debate was settled a long time ago," Eckes said. "There was really no question that these were elite players, elite teams, and the reason cited for why they weren't 'Major League' were really things that were beyond their control.”

CINCINNATI (AP) — Joey Votto hit a two-run double in the sixth inning, and the Cincinnati Reds handed the Chicago Cubs their seventh straight loss with a 2-1 victory Friday night.

Cincinnati also got a strong performance from Sonny Gray, who struck out eight in five innings in his first big league start since June 8. He had been sidelined by a strained right groin.

Gray allowed one run and five hits before five relievers combined for four scoreless innings. Josh Osich (1-0) got one out for the win, and Heath Hembree worked the ninth for his second save.

Ian Happ singled for Chicago with two out in the ninth, but pinch-hitter Rafael Ortega struck out swinging for the final out.

Former Reds pitcher and current Dodger, Trevor Bauer was placed on administrative leave Friday by Major League Baseball following an assault allegation earlier this week.

On Wednesday, Los Angeles police announced they were investigating an “assault that took place at the hands of Mr. Bauer” where the woman “suffered severe physical and emotional pain,” attorney Marc Garelick said.

Jon Fetterolf, Bauer’s co-agent, disputed the allegations that Bauer committed any nonconsensual violence. He said Bauer met the woman in April, and the two had “a brief and wholly consensual sexual relationship initiated” by the woman.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Guillermo Heredia homered, doubled and made a defensive gem before crashing into the wall in the eighth inning in his return to Atlanta’s lineup, helping the Braves beat the Cincinnati Reds 3-2 on Friday night.

The game’s first run came in the fifth when Atlanta’s Freddie Freeman doubled home Ronald Acuña Jr. for his 900th career RBI.

Acuña returned to the lineup after missing two games with lower back tightness.

Dansby Swanson hit a solo homer in the sixth and Heredia added a solo shot in the seventh, both off Reds rookie Vladimir Gutiérrez (3-2).

Gutiérrez got some defensive help in the fourth. With runners on second and third and two outs, Eugenio Suárez made a diving stop of William Contreras’ bouncer down the line and threw to first from his knees to end the inning.

Suárez also hit a solo home run off Luke Jackson in the seventh.

Drew Smyly (1-1) exited after six innings with a 3-1 lead. And the bullpen made things interesting.

Heredia, who returned to the lineup after being available off the bench the last two games due to right wrist inflammation, robbed Jesse Winker of an extra-base hit leading off the eighth. He collided with the wall and appeared to hurt his right shoulder on the play, but remained in the game after being attended to by training staff.

Will Smith worked the ninth and picked up his 16th save.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto served a one-game suspension from Major League Baseball on Tuesday, three days after he was ejected for arguing with an umpire.

Votto was already slated to rest in the finale of a two-game series at Minnesota, an afternoon start following a 12-inning contest on Monday night that was MLB’s longest game of the season at 5:16. Shortly before first pitch, the Reds announced Votto was serving his punishment.

Votto and Reds manager David Bell were tossed in the first inning on Saturday at San Diego after a heated spat with home plate umpire Ryan Additon after Votto was called out on a checked swing. Padres catcher Webster Rivas appealed after Votto offered at a high, outside pitch, and third base umpire Chris Guccione confirmed that Votto went around.

Bell and coaches Delino DeShields and Freddie Benavides had to keep Votto away from Additon, who then ejected the player and the manager. Crew chief Jim Reynolds said after the game that Votto was booted because he “just lost control.”

Votto, in his 15th season with the Reds, has three homers and 13 RBIs in 14 games since returning from a month-plus absence because of a broken thumb.

CINCINNATI (AP) — The Reds hit five homers over the first five innings, including a three-run blast by Joey Votto, and Cincinnati extended the Colorado Rockies’ road woes with an 11-5 win on Friday night.

Nick Castellanos, Scott Heineman, Kyle Farmer and Tyler Stephenson also went deep against Kyle Freeland (0-2), who set a career high for home runs allowed in a game. The Reds fell one short of matching their single-game season high for homers.

The Rockies fell to 5-25 away from Coors Field and have lost every road series this season.

Cincinnati gave Tyler Mahle (6-2) a 9-0 lead before he faltered in the sixth, allowing a run on a wild pitch before Ryan McMahon hit a three-run homer. Mahle allowed four runs on five hits in six innings, retiring 12 straight batters in one stretch.

With Jesse Winker on first, Castellanos lined Freeland’s fifth pitch of the game into the first row of seats in deep right-center for his 13th homer of the season.

Eugenio Suárez led off the second with a double, and Heineman followed with his second homer of the season. Votto broke the game open in the third with his seventh homer, an opposite-field shot that followed third baseman McMahon’s error on a potential double-play ball.

Farmer homered leading off the fourth and Stephenson ended Freeland’s night when he went deep leading off the fifth. Freeland previously had allowed three home runs in a game three times. He gave up nine runs (eight earned) on eight hits.

The Rockies had seven hits. They came in batting a major league-worst .202 as visitors, while their home average of .277 leads the majors.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Cincinnati right-hander Sonny Gray is set to make his first start of the season Saturday at Cleveland, a welcome boost for a Reds staff that’s struggled at times.

Gray began spring training as the Reds’ possible opening day starter. But he experienced back spasms, made just one Cactus League start and opened the regular season on the 10-day injured list.

The 31-year-old Gray is an obvious asset to the Reds’ starting rotation. The two-time All-Star has a 75-63 record and a 3.54 ERA in eight seasons, including 5-3 with a 3.70 ERA last year.

“I’m very much looking forward to coming back and helping these guys win some games,” Gray said in a video interview.

The Reds led the NL Central with a 7-4 record as Wednesday began, but their 4.33 team ERA ranked ninth in the league. Cincinnati earned an NL wild-card spot last year, but lost Cy Young Award winner Trevor Bauer to the Los Angeles Dodgers in free agency.

Gray’s return promoted the Reds to move right-hander José De León from the rotation to the bullpen. DeLeon was 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA in two starts.

“I think it could be an exciting opportunity for him,” manager David Bell said. “I think he has a real chance to help us out of the bullpen. He could always go right back in the rotation if needed. He’s very built up and that’s not going to go away any time in the next few weeks.”

DeLeon’s move to the bullpen assured right-hander Jeff Hoffman of remaining in the rotation, at least for the immediate future. Hoffman is 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA in two starts.

“I’m just here to help the team win and whatever capacity that is, I’m game for it,” Hoffman said.

CINCINNATI — As COVID-19 recedes and most health orders have lifted in Ohio, the Cincinnati Reds had planned to welcome baseball fans back to Great American Ball Park with Reds "Re-Opening Day" Wednesday.

But Mother Nature had other plans: The day's inclement weather forecast caused the team to postpone Wednesday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Re-Opening Day against Philadelphia was rescheduled for June 28. The team's next game will be on the road in St. Louis Thursday.

While Opening Day in April drew crowds to the new DORA at The Banks, Re-Opening Day hoped to draw more people to the ballpark as capacity limits and social distancing requirements are lifted. There's also no mask requirement inside the stadium, but they are recommended.

Reds president and COO Phil Castellini said he wants people to support the team, but he also wants people to support businesses at The Banks which took a hard hit over the past year. He hopes this re-opening supports more than just baseball.

"This is about celebrating the reopening of our state, us getting control of our lives back," Castellini said. "I am ready and I hope you are as well. So thank everybody that has helped us get here as a state, let's keep it up, let's keep going, let's stay safe and let's put this thing in the rear view."

The game against the Philadelphia Phillies was scheduled to start at 12:35 p.m., and the city of Cincinnati declared today a "half-day holiday" so fans could support the Reds and local businesses.

Fans who decide to spend the afternoon Downtown or at The Banks despite the postponement should be aware Cincinnati police will be testing their SpotShotter technology using controlled, live gunfire later in the afternoon or early evening.

CINCINNATI — Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto hit his 300th home run Friday night.

Votto went yard in the bottom of the third off Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta to bring base runner Nick Castellanos home on the way to an 8-6 victory.

Votto got a curtain call from Cincinnati fans and drove in three runs.

The 37-year-old six-time all-star has been a staple on the Reds roster since he was promoted from Louisville in 2007.

Nick Senzel lined a two-run homer, and Eugenio Suárez added a solo shot. The Reds won for the third time in four games after losing seven in a row. The Cubs scored twice in the ninth against relievers Carson Fulmer and Lucas Sims. Tejay Antone took over with two outs and got David Bote to ground out with the bases loaded for his first career save.

DENVER (AP) — Garrett Hampson led off the first inning with a triple, one of 15 hits for Colorado, and the Rockies spoiled Wade Miley’s encore to his first career no-hitter with a 9-6 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night.

Miley (4-3) was roughed up one start after holding the Cleveland Indians hitless on May 7. His bid for consecutive no-hitters ended on his second pitch when Hampson tripled. Hampson later scored on Miley’s throwing error on a pickoff attempt.

“What I was really happy about tonight were the at-bats against Miley,” Rockies manager Bud Black said. “He was close to 70, 75 pitches in the third inning. The aggressive at-bats and we wore him down.”

Hampson also homered and singled. Charlie Blackmon and Yonathan Daza had three hits apiece to back a solid outing by Colorado starter German Márquez.

The Rockies scored four times in the third on five hits and a walk and chased Miley after three more hits to start the fourth.

The left-hander gave up eight runs on 11 hits and struck out five in three-plus innings, his shortest start of the season.

“I felt better than I did seven days ago, 100%,” Miley said. “And that was a little bit to a fault because I tried to do a little too much with my cutter and I couldn’t command it. The big thing tonight was the changeup wasn’t there. Never got a feel for it and threw it in stupid counts. It wasn’t a good pitch for me tonight.”

Colorado’s hitters didn’t let Miley dictate.

“When he’s on I think it’s because the other team does what he wants them to do,” Hampson said. “He’s so good at putting a certain pitch in a location where you can’t do damage. We were able to really be stubborn, get him in the zone, just try to get him in the middle.”

Márquez was sharp before allowing a two-run homer to Jonathan India in the seventh. The right-hander was removed after walking Alex Blandino.

Márquez (2-4) allowed four runs on eight hits and struck out eight in six-plus innings.

“He was good. He made it tough on us,” Reds manager David Bell said. “We weren’t able to get much going early and that kind of sets the tone for the game.”

Hampson hit a solo homer in the seventh before Eugenio Suarez launched a two-run shot off Yency Almonte in the top of the eighth.

Daniel Bard pitched the ninth for his fourth save.

Daza drove in three runs and Josh Fuentes had two hits and two RBIs for Colorado.

TRAINER’S ROOM

Reds: OF Nick Senzel was out of the lineup after bruising his heel Thursday. Bell said Senzel is considered day to day. ... 1B Mike Moustakas was in the lineup after being pulled from Thursday night’s game due to a shoulder issue. He left with a bruised heel in the fifth.

Rockies: Placed 1B Matt Adams on the 10-day injured list with a bruised right shin sustained Wednesday against San Diego. Colorado recalled RHP Justin Lawrence from Triple-A Albuquerque. ... OF Raimel Tapia was scratched from the lineup with a left thumb issue.

MILD, PLEASE

Blackmon exited for a pinch-runner in the fourth with a groin strain.

“We think it’s mild. We’ll know more (Saturday),” Black said. “He got some treatment. I think we got him out of there at the right time. We’ll know more in the coming days, but we think it’s mild.”

REDS ROSTER MOVES

Cincinnati designated RHP Sal Romano for assignment and claimed RHP Michael Feliz off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Reds also recalled RHP Art Warren from the taxi squad. Romano had been with the organization since he was drafted in the 23rd round in 2011.

Bell said Feliz will join the team in a few days.

FAN APPRECIATION

The Rockies received permission from the Denver Department of Public Health to increase Coors Field capacity to 70% starting June 1. Currently the cap is 42.3%, and the number of fans allowed to attend games will increase from 21,363 to 35,000.

Reds RHP Tyler Mahle (2-0, 3.00 ERA) will face Colorado RHP Jhoulys Chacin (0-1, 5.84), who is slated to make his first start for the Rockies since June 28, 2014.

DENVER (AP) — Nick Castellanos hit a tiebreaking double in the 12th and the Cincinnati Reds kept up their success in extra innings, beating the Colorado Rockies 6-5 on Saturday night.

Castellanos also homered and singled to help Cincinnati improve to 7-2 in extra-inning games this season. Lucas Sims (3-1) pitched two innings for the win.

Jesse Winkler was at second base to start the 12th and Castellanos hit a pitch from Antonio Santos (0-1) to the wall to make it 5-4. Pinch-hitter Nick Senzel singled and Eugenio Suarez had an RBI groundout.

Colorado got a run on Raimel Tapia’s groundout in the bottom of the inning off Heath Hembree, who earned his first save.

The Reds have played the most extra-inning games in the majors.

“Extra innings, everybody’s up, everybody’s believing in the guy that they’re going to get it done,” Castellanos said of the team’s success.

Kyle Farmer hit a two-run homer in the Reds 11th and Josh Fuentes tied it with a double to drive in a pair in the bottom half.

“It felt really good. It was great,” Farmer said of his third home run of the season. “I’ve come close a couple of times. I didn’t think I had any more power left in me.”

The teams combined for 36 runs in the first two games, and early it looked like another big scoring night.

Ryan McMahon hit his ninth homer, a 478-foot shot according to Statcast, to put the Rockies ahead 2-0 in the first. Castellanos responded with a two-run shot in the third off Jhoulys Chacín, his 10th.

The pitching took over from there. Cincinnati starter Tyler Mahle settled down after the first inning to blank Colorado on five hits over the next six innings and worked out of a jam in the seventh. Garrett Hampson led off with a triple but Mahle stranded him at third.

“We’ve been getting the big hit lately. Tonight it didn’t come our way,” Rockies manager Bud Black said. “We had multiple opportunities to get a base hit, to do some situational hitting, just didn’t happen tonight.”

Mahle allowed two runs and seven hits and struck out four in his seven innings.

TRAINER’S ROOM

Reds: INF Mike Moustakas (heel contusion) did not play. ... OF Scott Heineman was added to the taxi squad for the last two games of the series.

Rockies: OF Charlie Blackmon wasn’t in the starting lineup due to a mild right groin strain suffered Friday night. He pinch-hit in the seventh and struck out. ... INF Brendan Rodgers (right hamstring) went 2 for 3 for Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday night in a rehab assignment.

SHOGO SAVES THE DAY

Hampson sent a drive to deep center with two outs in the bottom of ninth that looked destined for extra bases until Shogo Akiyama made a leaping catch to end the inning.

He got a bear hug from Jesse Winkler at the warning track and a tip of the cap from reliever Tejay Antone.

“I didn’t think he had a chance off the bat and he kept tracking it,” manager David Bell said. “He has that ability to close on the ball but then also it’s like he almost hangs a little bit in the air. It’s a beautiful play to watch. He was just gliding. There’s nothing like a great defensive play like that.”

LONG TIME, NO START

Chacín, normally in the role of long reliever, made a spot start for Colorado and allowed two runs on four hits in four innings. It was his first start for the Rockies since June 28, 2014, and in between he pitched for six teams over six seasons.

Chacín threw 53 pitches and got nine of his 12 outs on ground balls, including one double play. The other three were retired with strikeouts.

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Wade Miley pitched baseball’s second no-hitter in three days — and fourth already this season — leading the Cincinnati Reds to a 3-0 win over the Cleveland Indians, who were no-hit for the second time in a month.

Miley relied on breaking pitches and his experience of 11-plus major league seasons to baffle the Indians and throw Cincinnati’s first no-hitter since Homer Bailey in 2013.

It was the 17th no-hitter in Reds franchise history.

The left-hander shook off an 83-minute rain delay to start the game and followed Baltimore’s John Means, who no-hit Seattle on Wednesday, to continue an early run of pitching gems in 2021 — quickly becoming the Year of the No-No.
