AT THE WHITE HOUSE, KALYN NORWOOD. >> A DYNAMIC DUO, A PRO COACH AND YOUNG BOY WITH A LOVE FOR GOLF. -- BOTH HAVE A CONTAGIOUS LOVE OF THE SPORT. AND BOTH OF THEM HAVE A DISABILITY. IT’S THEIR LESSONS ON THE COURSE AND IN LIFE I SHARE WITH YOU TONIGHT, OF TALENT THAT SHINES THROUGH THEIR ABILITY >>WHAT DO YOU SAY TO THAT BALL? BYE BYE BALL GIVE IT A RIP HIT >> ONE OF THE WORLD’S TOP ADAPTIVE GOLFERS, CHRIS BIGGINS AND HIS 6-YEAR-OLD PROTEGE, SHEP. ARE QUITE THE PAIR. >> WE GOT THE SAME PUTTER SHOES, HE HAS THE RIGHT SHOE AND I HAVE LEFT. >> HOW SPECIAL IS THAT? TWO PEAS IN A POD YOU MAY SAY. BOTH CHRIS AND SHEP, TALENTED ATHLETES IN THEIR OWN RIGHT. >> WHOA, THAT WAS THE BEST ONE OF THE DAY. >> AND BOTH HAVE CEREBRAL PALSY. >> WHEN I SAW CHRIS I WAS LIKE SHEP YOU’VE GOT TO MEET THIS GUY. >> I PRAYED FOR MANY YEARS FOR A ROLE MODEL AND ENCOURAGER FOR SHEP AND FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS SIMILAR CEREBRAL PALSY >> I REMEMBER WHEN I FIRST SAW SHEP A FEW YEARS AGO HE WAS RUNNING AROUND THE PLAYGROUND AT UNITED ABILITY WALKER I KIND OF HAD FLASHBACKS AND DEJA VOU FROM WHEN I WAS THAT AGE, MORE >> MORE RECENTLY, HE SAW SHEP AGAIN THIS TIME, RUNNING WITHOUT HIS WALKER CHRIS ASKED HIM TO HIT SOME GOLF BALLS. >> THAT DAY I THOUGHT WE MAY BE THE BEST TO EVER PLAY THE GAME. >> HE HAS BEEN DETERMINED SINCE DAY ONE. >> TOLD SHEP MAY NEVER WALK UPON INITIAL DIAGNOSIS THIS KID PROVES HE CAN DO IT ALL. >> NOTHING HOLD HIM BACK >> DO YOU THINK YOU ARE STRONG ENOUGH TO HIT IT WAY OVER THERE? YES LET ME SEE YOUR MUSCLES, OH YEAH YOURE STRONG ENOUGH >> IN THE PAST HE MAY HAVE HAD DOUBTS ABOUT HIS ABILITY BUT WHEN HES ON THE GOLF COURSE HE DOESN’T HAVE DOUBTS HE FEELS LIKE HE’S IMPRESSIVE HE HAS TURNED INTO SOMEONE DISABLED TO SUPERHERO >> AND CHRIS, GIVING GIFTS, >>MR. CHRIS GAVE YOU THESE? >> AND SHARING HIS ULTIMATE GIFT TO INSPIRE OTHERS >> WHEN YOU START OUT ESPECIALLY WITH A DISABILITY YOU’RE GOING TO STINK. IT’S GOING TO BE A TOUGH ROAD IF YOU KEEP WORKING HARD AND KEEP BATTLING THERES NO LIMITS TO WHAT YOU CAN DO. >> IT HAS BEEN AN ANSWER TO PRAYER THAT WE HAVE MADE THIS RELATIONSHIP AND THAT GOD HAS PUT US TOGETHER. -- WITH CHRIS. >> ISN’T THAT INCREDIBLE? >> I LOVE THE TEAMWORK AND THE PARTNERSHIP AND THE RELATIONSHIP THEY HAVE. >> THEY CLICKED RIGHT AWAY. THEY WERE BROUGHT TOGETHER BY UNITED ABILITY, THESE TWO PROVE THEIR CAPABILITY TO INSPIRE AND DO GREAT THINGS, TOGETHER. AS SOONISH OF HIT THE GOLF BALL FOR THE FIRST TIME HE WAS A NATURAL HE IS SO GOOD AND CONFIDEN

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A Springfield Township family facing the possibility of homelessness now has a safe place to stay.

Stephanie Payne's landlord is planning to sell her house, telling Payne she and her granddaughters must be out this week. Though she had known since April, Payne said she was struggling to find a new place that would accept her housing choice voucher, commonly known as Section 8. Payne stays home to provide 24-hour care to her granddaughter Mekyla, who has cerebral palsy.

"Her name is MeMe, my everything," Payne said. "Mekyla requires a lot — she's got to have room for all of her machines, all of her equipment."

After telling WCPO her story, multiple people and agencies offered to help Payne's family. Payne said her case manager at Hamilton County Developmental Disabilities Services was able to find her a temporary place for the rest of December, and a new home to move into in January.

"Sounds like a pretty good situation to me — a lot better situation," Payne said. "It feels good to see the love, to see that there's still people out there who care and are willing to help when you're in a bad situation."

Hamilton County DDS said outcomes like this are not always expected, but they are thankful that things were able to line up to make it possible in this case.

"This is one of those situations that we were just glad that we were able to help," said Ryan Braun with Hamilton County DDS. "The timing worked out perfectly for a few things — we had this temporary location that happened to be open right at the right time."

Case managers work with clients and a housing coordinator who can help families, but with so many moving pieces, Braun said, it can be a difficult process.

"It's important to note that housing can be difficult to find for a lot of folks, so we're happy that we were able to help out in this situation," Braun said.

A GoFundMe to help the family with moving costs has raised more than $3,500 and Payne said she is also getting support from "Their Voice of Greater Cincinnati," a cerebral palsy-focused nonprofit.

"It feels great. I feel a whole lot better than I did," Payne said. "Now I've got something to look forward to. I've got a new home to look forward to: we will be together for Christmas."
