<p>WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Judge Tanya Chutkan sentenced Robert Scott Palmer to the <a class="Link" href="https://www.abcactionnews.com/news/local-news/largo-man-receives-the-longest-sentence-yet-for-capitol-insurrection">longest sentence for any person convicted for their role in the January 6 </a>insurrection at the Capitol.</p>
<p>Palmer was given a 63-month sentence to be served in federal prison. He received an additional 36 months of supervised release and was ordered to pay $2,000 in restitution. Judge Chutkan said she would recommend that Palmer be housed in a federal prison close to his home in Clearwater but could not guarantee that would happen.</p>
<p>Palmer pleaded guilty to his role in the attack on the Capitol on 1/6. The government said Palmer threw a wooden plank at officers, sprayed the contents of a fire extinguisher at the officers before then throwing the extinguishers. He then searched for more materials to assault police with including throwing a fire extinguisher a second time.</p>
<p>According to the sentencing memorandum, Palmer was eventually pepper sprayed by law enforcement, but that didn’t stop him. The government said Palmer assaulted another group of officers with a 4–5-foot pole that he threw like a spear at the officers. He was then shot by officers with a non-lethal bullet that hit him in the abdomen.</p>
<p>The government said Palmer admitted in interviews that his goal was to subvert a democratic election and that he hoped for military intervention to overturn the election to keep then-President Donald Trump in power.</p>
<p>The judge was critical of Palmer’s actions on 1/6 and said that the U.S. Marshals, Capitol Police, and others who fought to keep the insurrectionists out of the Capitol and away from the elected leaders were “the real patriots that day.”</p>
<p>“The men and women who kept democracy functioning that day and saved lives, they deserve the thanks of this nation,” Judge Chutkan said as she pronounced the sentence. “They didn’t deserve to have fire extinguishers thrown at them.”</p>
<p>When pronouncing the sentence, Chutkan said part of the reason for her sentence was, “It has to be made clear that trying to violently overthrow the government, trying to stop the peaceful transfer of power, and assaulting law enforcement officers in that effort is going to be met with absolutely certain punishment.”</p>

<p>NEW YORK (AP) — Mayor Bill de Blasio says New York City will terminate business contracts with President Donald Trump after last week's insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.</p>
<p>"New York City doesn't do business with insurrectionists," de Blasio tweeted Wednesday morning.</p>
<p>The Trump Organization is under city contract to operate the two ice rinks and a carousel in Central Park and a golf course in the Bronx.</p>
<p>According to de Blasio, the City is looking to terminate contracts with the Wollman and Lasker skating rinks at Central Park and the Ferry Point Golf Course.</p>
<p>De Blasio says the Trump Organization profits about $17 million a year from those sites.</p>
<p>“The President incited a rebellion against the United States government that killed five people and threatened to derail the constitutional transfer of power," de Blasio said in a press release. "The City of New York will not be associated with those unforgivable acts in any shape, way, or form, and we are immediately taking steps to terminate all Trump Organization contracts."</p>
<p>According to the press release, the carousel is currently closed, and termination of that contract would go into effect 25 days after the City's termination notice is received.</p>
<p>The City would terminate the agreement for the two ice rinks in Central Park after 30 days' written notice, de Blasio stated in the media release.</p>
<p>The mayor added that process for terminating the contract for the golf course is more detailed “and is expected to take a number of months.”</p>
<p>According to de Blasio, a contract can legally be terminated by the City if a company's leadership is engaged in criminal activity, The Associated Press <a class="Link" href="https://apnews.com/article/nyc-terminate-trump-contracts-c3ec1eadf286008199074c894de31612" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.</p>
<p>A Trump Organization spokesperson said the City can't cancel the contracts and the company will "fight vigorously."</p>
<p>It is the latest example of how the Jan. 6 breach by violent Trump supporters is impacting the Republican president's business interests.</p>
<p>On <a class="Link" href="https://www.thedenverchannel.com/sports/pga-says-trump-owned-golf-club-will-no-longer-host-2022-pga-championship">Sunday</a>, the PGA announced that they are moving the PGA Championship from Trump's golf course in New Jersey next year.</p>
<p>Germany's biggest bank, Deutsche Bank, <a class="Link" href="https://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/national-politics/deutsche-bank-signature-bank-cut-ties-with-president-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">decided</a> not to do business with Trump and his company, to who he owes more than $300 million, which is set to be due in the next coming years.</p>
<p>Signature Bank in New York <a class="Link" href="https://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/national-politics/deutsche-bank-signature-bank-cut-ties-with-president-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> they are closing two personal accounts.</p>

ah! Historic march through the halls of the U. S. Capitol, nearly three weeks after a deadly insurrection took place within its walls. Nine House impeachment managers delivering a single article of impeachment to the Senate Monday night, formally beginning the second impeachment trial against former President Donald Trump, Donald John Trump, president of the United States, is impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors. 10 House Republicans joined House Democrats last week to charge Trump with incitement of insurrection, saying he encouraged a violent mob to storm the U. S Capitol January 6th in an effort to overturn the election results. We fight like hell, and if you don't fight like hell, you're not gonna have a country anymore. The House also pointing to Trump's phone call with Georgia's secretary of state earlier this month, asking him to find votes to reverse Trump's loss. In all this, President Trump gravely endangered the security of the United States and its institutions of government. Senators will be sworn in as jurors later today, and a trial will begin the week of February 8th. The timeline allowing Trump's team to prepare and space to confirm President Joe Biden's Cabinet nominees. It's not going to be easy to manage all these things at once, but it's absolutely imperative. Biden telling CNN he's doubtful there are enough Republicans willing to convict Trump. But he also believes the impeachment trial has toe happen despite the effect it could have on advancing his agenda. I believe we will put forward a very strong case. That, of course, is already in the public view of what took place here. Even with the bipartisan passing of the article in the House, many Republicans opposed the trial against Trump. It seems very, very much counterproductive if you're the by President Biden to say we're going to take the precious first days of a new administration and we're gonna squander it on this impeachment trial. The trial moving forward as the Justice Department's internal watchdog launched an investigation looking into whether any DOJ officials participated in attempts to overturn the outcome of the 2020 election. The probe, after news reports indicated Trump may have attempted to use the DOJ to challenge the election results in a plan that sources say included ousting acting attorney General Jeffrey Rosen. Anyone that is trying Thio approach this with a you know, any kind of open mindedness, it seems like the evidence keeps mounting
