The world's oldest dog is living it up in his 30s.

Bobi, a Portuguese pooch who was declared the world's oldest dog by Guinness World Records in February, celebrated his 31st birthday on Thursday, according to a news release from Guinness.

Bobi's family planned a Saturday birthday party at his home in Conqueiros, a rural village in southern Portugal.

His owner, Leonel Costa, told Guinness that it will be a "very traditional" Portuguese party. Over 100 people are set to attend and a dance troupe are set to perform, according to the news release.

Costa told Guinness that Bobi has been enjoying a lot of attention since being crowned the world's oldest dog.

"We've had a lot of journalists and people come from all over the world to take a picture with Bobi," he said in the release.

He added that the senior pup was in good health and recently received a check-up due to Costa's concerns about the stress of frequent visitors.

"There were a lot of pictures taken and he had to get up and down many times," he said in the release. "It wasn't easy for him."

Bobi is a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, a breed of Portuguese dog trained to guard livestock, according to his owner. As he's gotten older, he has had difficulties walking and also experienced a decline in his eyesight.

Costa attributed his dog's longevity in part to the "calm, peaceful environment" where he lives.

In addition to being the oldest dog currently living, Bobi is also the oldest dog ever recorded, according to Guinness. Costa was just 8 years old when his canine companion was born.

"Bobi is special because looking at him is like remembering the people who were part of our family and unfortunately are no longer here, like my father, my brother, or my grandparents who have already left this world," he said in the release.

SOMERVILLE, Mass. —

For the last year, UPS driver Tyler Kingsbury has known that of all the stops on his route, the deliveries to JFK Elementary in Somerville, Massachusetts, each day are his most memorable.

Corey Merrill’s third-grade class has snack time at the same time Kingsbury’s truck drives by.

“We started to wave, and he’d honk and, eventually, we decided to try to find out more about him,” she said.

“Like how old am I? What’s my favorite color? When’s my birthday?” Kingsbury said.

Once the students learned his 30th birthday was coming up, they decided to throw him a surprise party.

“I pulled into the parking lot and all the kids were here lined up. They all made signs that said ‘Happy 30^th birthday Tyler!’ They designed hats, they made these incredible stop-action videos, they gave me cupcakes, gifts, snacks,” he said.

Kingsbury said he was blown away not just by the gifts, but by the amount of skill these students showed.

“I bet most people in classes in schools would not throw birthday parties for random people that drive by,” one student said.

But the fact that the students did throw a party for someone they just met made it extra special for Kingsbury.

“It was a moment I’ll remember forever,” he said. “And it was just really incredible.”

An organization called Ski for Light made 99-year-old Edyth Warne's life-long dream of skiing come true.

Warne decided to knock some items off of her bucket list before her big 100th birthday and so she decided to go snow skiing as a camera from KOTA followed the action in the mountains near Rapid City, South Dakota.

Her grandson said that she has faced physical disabilities all of her life.

"This isn't something she's been able to do," Edyth's grandson Austin Pearce said as they prepared to go down the slopes in North Dakota.

Members from Ski for Light made sure that Edyth was secure in a sled before skiing down the snowy mountain, assisting her. They ended up going not just once, but three times as Edyth yelled, “This was wonderful...I think everybody should do it. Even though it’s real bumpy."

Ski for Light is a non-profit group that was founded in 1975. And according to the organization, they work to provide opportunities for mobility and visually impaired to go out and experience cross-country skiing, and in Edyth's case, downhill snow skiing as well.

Birdie Eve's birthday will always be a special day.That's because the newborn from Phoenix, Arizona, shares it with her grandmother and great-grandmother.On Sept. 12, Birdie's arrival was the best birthday gift for Shelley Parkhurst, 60, and her mother, Gail, 96."We thought it was going to be the 24th but she surprised us all," Parkhurst told KNXV. "I mean, how can you plan that? Really, how can you plan it?"Birdie's parents — Marissa Mendoza and Nicholas Parkhurst — were just as surprised by the coincidental birthdate."I never thought she'd be born on my mom's birthday, " Nicholas Parkhurst said. "She has been saying it since the beginning that it's gonna happen on her birthday, and I'm like, 'No it's not, it's the 24th."Birdie's early arrival came due to some health complications and her parents are glad she arrived safely."I couldn't have an epidural, so I had to go in early, so that I could have a safe delivery because, if I waited any longer, it wouldn't have been safe, so that's why I got induced early, and I'm like, 'Oh, well, maybe she will be born on that day,'" Mendoza said.Even after Mendoza was induced on Sept. 11, nurses told her Birdie may not arrive until Sept. 13. Instead, she was born on a day so special to her family. "I can't really describe it," Mendoza said.

Saturday marked a major milestone for one Stockton, California, man. As one of the longest-living veterans of World War II, Maj. William White celebrated his 106th birthday with a parade down the street he calls home.

“I can’t think of enough words to express my thanks,” said Maj. White, staring at the many cars full of people passing by celebrating his birthday.

The highly decorated veteran was entertaining others at his celebration by telling stories of his experiences in combat.

"My most memorable moment was when the flag was raised over Iwo Jima,” said Maj. White.

Surrounded by his two daughters, as well as his many grand and great-grandchildren, he beamed with love as people from across the city drove by playing music, waving and yelling out their well-wishes.

“It is an honor and we’re so thankful to everyone who showed up,” said Maj. White's eldest daughter, Mary Houston.

"He just has a youthful spirit, he's a joy to be around and we’re lucky to have him,” said Blaine Lyons, executive director at The Oaks Assisted Living Center.

“Surviving World War II as a U.S. Marine is truly amazing, he's a national treasure,” Lyons said.

Born in 1915, and joining the military in 1934, Maj. White has proudly dawned his Marine dress blues for decades.

“Maj. White is just what it symbolizes to be a Marine,” said Miraya Alvarado, with the Stockton Marine Corps. Club, and sergeant in the Marine Corps.

“To get to this age and still be recognized is very important,” Alvarado said.

Maj. White's daughters told sister station KCRA that Veteran Affairs informed their family that their father is one of the three longest-living World War II veterans.

On Saturday, Charley Quarles' family gave her a big 1st birthday celebration, as it may be one of the few she'll have.

"I'm just so happy that she can be home for her first birthday," mom Macy Pratt said. "Because we didn't even think she would be here to see one."

Charley was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer at 5 months old. She has stage 3 neuroblastoma. She has a solid tumor in her abdomen that's around the size of a baseball.

Her mom, Macy, and dad, Cambron Quarles, spent the last roughly 170 days living in Cincinnati Children's Hospital and Ronald McDonald house, while Charley went through chemotherapy.

"Felt like it was never-ending, you know, waking up every day in the hospital room, you know, constantly having to deal with nurses coming in and out all day," Cambron said.

Doctors approved them to delay treatments for a few days. That way, for the first time in months, the three could go home to have their little girl's birthday.

"She's lived most of her life in the hospital," Macy said. "It's just something that I've wanted so badly for her to just be able to be a baby like she's supposed to, and be surrounded by people that truly love her."

The birthday was themed 'Charley's Carni,' with snow cones, big bounce houses, a tower of presents, and of course, a cake smash. Charley's grandmother, Leah Pratt, went all out for the party. Most of the machines and blow-ups were donated to the party by the companies too.

Leah was thankful to have everyone home again.

"Last night, was the first night I turned my ringer off, and I slept peacefully because I had all my loves under my roof," she said.

But it won't be for long.

A week ago, the family found out Charley's tumor is inoperable. The oncologist and surgeon told the family they'd never seen anything like it; it was as if the chemo hadn't touched her tumor.

She was given a nearly zero percent chance of survival. The only option left is 15 more rounds of chemo.

"We're just going to keep fighting, and we're not going to stop because I'll never give up on her," Macy said. "I'm not going to give up on her until she's cancer-free."

Others are fighting too. More than 80,000 people follow the Charley's Angels Facebook page from across the world. It's become a support page for others, as well as a way to update people quickly on Charley's advancements. Charley may even become the face of Hoxworth Blood Center.

"I never thought that she would be changing the world before she was 1," Macy said. "So I can't wait to see how many lives she's going to touch."

The next phase of chemo is expected to last roughly 45 weeks. The family is able to go to the hospital for a few weeks at time, then come home for two weeks, and repeat.

So milestone moments like her birthday party, and time with family, are even more special.
The family prays this isn't the last.

"We're going to have even bigger birthday parties and the older she gets," Macy said. "This is just the beginning, and we're ready for what the future holds."

Charley's mom plans to start a foundation soon called Rosey's Rainbows. Charley's middle name is Rose, and the rainbow symbolizes hope. The foundation will raise money to financially support other families going through a similar experience, since the family has been able to keep going through donations. Macy wants to extend that kindness to others.

SPRINGDALE, Ohio —

New video shows what it looked like inside Dave & Buster's in Springdale as a large fight exploded.

Families were startled, and employees warned police that a gun and a Taser were involved.

Police said a man was found shot nearby.

WLWT talked with a man who happened to be in the restaurant and arcade celebrating a birthday as it all unfolded and used his phone to record some of it.

A number of employees called 911 for help begging police to hurry.

"I just can't believe that I witnessed that, that that stuff actually happens," Chandler Davis said.

Davis said he captured video of the fight on Monday night inside Dave & Buster's.

He was there for his girlfriend's sister's 21st birthday celebration, but this was no way to mark that milestone.

"I see a bunch of men throwing fists at each other, so I decided to record it and I didn't want to get too close because there was a girl there with a stun gun and she was going around hitting a bunch of guys in the neck with it," Davis said.

The video he captured showed the intensity of it all.

Five employees called 911 asking police to hurry as the fighting only got worse.

"It's like 10, 15 people and they're fighting. They've got Tasers and everything," an employee said during a 911 call.

In the calls, employees tell 911 dispatchers someone has a gun.

Davis saw their reaction in real time as the fight continued inside and eventually moved outside.

"We were sitting there and one of the workers came running back inside and he didn't say he had a gun but he was like, 'Everybody stay in here' and like, 'Stay down,'" he said.

Springdale police found a 37-year-old man shot nearby.

He is expected to be OK.

Police said no one was arrested, but they are making progress.

Meanwhile, Davis isn't sure he will be back.

"Just don't do it in public, if anything. Just don't do it at all at that. Just, especially not in public around kids, because I was right by a family and they had a little kid and they were really, really freaked out," he said.

Springdale police said they have set up a meeting to talk with Dave & Buster's about security and preventing this from happening again.

They were at this arcade earlier this year for fights and shots were fired near a neighboring business, though no one was hit.

Dave & Buster's has not responded to our request for comment.
