Mac Jaehnert said he put 1,000 miles on his car in the last week looking for a specialty nutritional formula for daughter MacKenzie and other premature babies in his southeastern Washington state community."It's been a frustrating, heartbreaking, unnecessary challenge for a kid who has already overcome so much," Jaehnert told CNN Saturday, echoing the sentiments of parents caught up in a worsening nationwide baby formula shortage.Jaehnert described empty store shelves in his search for Similac NeoSure in the city of Richland and surrounding areas -- part of a growing national crisis that has forced the Biden administration to order the use of military aircraft to expedite the delivery of baby formula to the United States. Jaehnert and his wife, Emily, said they have been fortunate to receive donations of NeoSure after getting their story out but urged others to donate cans of formula to food banks to help meet the urgent demand across the country. At Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital, at least four babies were recently hospitalized due to complications from the ongoing shortage, according to spokeswoman Carter Coyle.Coyle said three babies were hospitalized due to intolerance of formulas parents used because of the shortages; another was sickened by mineral imbalances from caregivers mixing their own formula.Clinical dietitians at the hospital urged parents not to dilute formula or attempt to make their own, referring them to guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics. In Memphis, Tennessee, a doctor at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital said this week that a toddler and a preschooler were admitted because the specialty formula they needed was out of stock and they couldn't tolerate replacements.Video: U.S. invokes Defense Production Act for formula shortageThe toddler, who had been in the hospital for about a week, was discharged Tuesday. The preschooler, who was admitted in April, remains in the hospital, according to the hospital. The baby formula shortage is affecting parents coast to coast, including those who choose not to or cannot breastfeed and those whose medically fragile children can't tolerate other nutrition sources.Beyond scouring the internet, parents like the Jaehnerts tirelessly search store shelves daily. Others coordinate formula exchanges through Facebook pages and spend countless hours -- and sometimes huge sums of money -- to make sure their children have food.MacKenzie Jaehnert was born three months early in December and weighed 2 pounds, 5.7 ounces, her father said on Twitter. She spent more than 100 days in the neonatal intensive care unit. Jaehnert said Saturday he and his wife are "terrified" at the prospect of transitioning "a kid who is just barely hanging on" to a new nutritional formula."I fear that she'll fall off of her growth chart more than she already is," Emily Jaehnert said of MacKenzie. "I fear that she will have an upset stomach, that it won't sit well with her, that she won't get the nutrition that she needs, that this particular formula right now is providing for her."Officials in Washington are now confronting criticism that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration moved too slowly to address warning signs of the shortage. At the same time, they're attempting to learn whether formula companies are actually short on ingredients, while also trying to tackle potential price gouging. At the heart of the crisis is a shuttered manufacturing plant in Michigan. The Abbott Nutrition plant, which is poised to restart production soon, closed after two babies who had consumed formula produced there became ill and died, prompting an investigation. The closure exacerbated shortages caused by supply chain disruptions and highlighted how concentrated the formula industry is."I would really love for someone to figure out why we weren't warned as the parents of premature kids," Mac Jaehnert said Saturday. "This absolutely blindsided us... When did they know and why weren't we warned of this shortage, because it put a lot of families in a really devastating position."

<p>LONGMONT, Colo. (<a class="Link" href="https://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/local-news/teenage-lifeguard-helps-couple-deliver-baby-at-ymca-pool-in-longmont">KMGH</a>) — A teenage lifeguard in Longmont, Colorado, helped deliver a baby while at work.</p>
<p>“It’s a pretty calm day usually,” 18-year-old lifeguard Natalie Lucas said, talking about her regular Sunday shift.</p>
<p>Calm is was what she was expecting on a Sunday morning late last month. That’s when expectant mother Tessa Rider, who was nine months pregnant, visited the YMCA pool.</p>
<p>“Thought, 'Oh, I’ll go for a swim. It’ll be nice and cool,'” Rider explained.</p>
<p>Rider’s swim didn’t last long.</p>
<p>“It suddenly dawned on me we weren’t making it to the hospital and he was coming out right then and there,” she said.</p>
<p>“The husband tells me they’re having the baby, and I’m like, 'Alright.' And the adrenaline kicks in right then and there," Lucas said.</p>
<p>Lucas requested for someone to call 911, grabbed a medical bag and towels, and was right there Rider pushed.</p>
<p>“She was there to do anything we asked. And the first thing I could think of was could someone hold my back up. And she did, and it was perfect,” Rider explained.</p>
<p>“The baby was already kind of coming out, and it was quick. I would say less than five minutes that it all happened,” Lucas said.</p>
<p>Baby Tobin was born happy and healthy on the pool deck of the YMCA.</p>
<p>“Without her, I would not have been able to safely focus my attention that Tobin came out and that he was safe and healthy,” dad Matthew Jones said.</p>
<p>Right after the birth, someone snapped a photo of the four — dad, mom, baby and lifeguard.</p>
<p>“I stayed calm, I helped them through from beginning to end that Sunday. It was quite the crazy thing to happen, but I’m pretty proud of myself,” Lucas said.</p>
<p>Lucas is off to college in the fall, after an experience she wasn’t expecting, but one that she admits she’ll never forget.</p>
<p>“I do hope to send the little guy birthday cards here and there,” the teen said with a smile.</p>
<p>As for baby Tobin, he gets a lifetime membership to the YMCA.</p>
<p>“He’s definitely going to be a swimmer,” Rider joked.</p>

<p>The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced earlier this week that they were again extending its waiver deadline for those in need of baby formula.</p>
<p>On Wednesday, the agency said the waivers made available through the federal WIC nutrition program would be extended through the end of the year.</p>
<p>The current waivers were set to expire on Sept. 30.</p>
<p>“USDA recognizes the flexibilities provided by these waivers remain necessary as we continue to pull every lever to address infant formula supply issues and provide certainty for families,” said Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said in a news release. “We will continue to work all hands on deck to ensure families can access infant formula, as part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s whole-of-government approach to get more safe formula on store shelves nationwide.”</p>
<p>The waiver program was first introduced in June to deal with the infant formula crisis.</p>
<p>The crisis began in February amid the coronavirus pandemic and then was exacerbated after Abbott announced a voluntary recall and then had to shut its Michigan factory due to contamination, the agency said.</p>
<p>The agency said close to 500 waivers have been issued to WIC state agencies.</p>

A 7-Eleven employee in Oregon went above and beyond her job description recently when she helped deliver a baby during her shift. Around 3 a.m. on Sept. 6, Karin Warren said a man asked for help calling 911 because his wife was in labor. The situation that followed was caught on the convenience store's surveillance camera.Warren told KEZI that after she called 911, she went to be with the expectant mother until an ambulance arrived. "That's when she stuck her legs up on my shoulders and I was like, 'woah, OK,'" Warren said. Warren said she went into "mama mode" and helped the woman through what happened next — the arrival of her newborn son. "I always wanted to see a baby be born other than mine," Warren said. "It was incredible."The parents Warren helped were originally from California and trying to find the closest hospital. They were so grateful for her help in a stressful situation that they made Warren the child's godmother.Watch the video above to see the whole situation unfold.

TO YOUR PHONE. WE’LL KNOW IT FOR 30 OR TRY OUT. A WOMAN IS ASKING THE COMMUNITY FOR HELP AFTER SHE LOST A BRACELET IN FORSYTH COUNTY. SHE EXPLAINED TO WXII SIZE MARIAN DEBONE WHY THE BRACELET MEANS SO MUCH TO HER. IT’S A HEART AND IT HAS. ON ONE SIDE, IT SAYS ZACHARY JAMES CLODFELTER, 730, 20, 21, AND ON THE OTHER SIDE IT HAS WINGS AT THE TOP. AND IT SAYS, YOUR HEART, YOUR WINGS ARE READY. BUT MY HEART WAS NOT WORKING. CLODFELTER WAS PREGNANT WITH HER THIRD CHILD, A BABY BOY, WHEN SHE STARTED HAVING COMPLICATIONS SINCE SHE DELIVERED HIM. BUT HE DIED SHORTLY AFTER I WOKE UP IN RECOVERY, AND MY HUSBAND WAS SITTING THERE HOLDING MY HAND AND I ASKED WHERE MY BABY WAS, AND HE SAID, HE’S BEING CARE OF. WE’RE GOING TO DO THE RIGHT THING. MORGAN’S BABY ZACHARY WAS CREMATED, AND SOME OF THE ASHES WERE PUT INTO THE BRACELET. I’M NOT ABLE TO PHYSICALLY HOLD MY BABY. BUT I ALWAYS WANTED TO HAVE A PIECE OF HIM WITH ME. WE. YOU KNOW, IT’S OKAY TO HAVE THIS URN SITTING ON THE TABLE THAT WE HAVE FOR HIM AT HOME. BUT TO BE ABLE TO WEAR A PIECE OF HIM, IT MEANT A LOT. MORGAN SAID SHE WAS WEARING IT WHILE RUNNING ERRANDS HERE IN THE WINSTON-SALEM ELAM CLEMMONS AREA MONDAY AND SHE GOT HOME. SHE REALIZED IT WASN’T ON HER WRIST ANY MORE. I LOOKED IN MY CAR THAT’S GOING BACK TO TARGET STARBUCKS. THE CHICK FILLET, THE LOWES FOODS AFTER ALL MY STEPS. NOW SHE’S ASKING THE PUBLIC THEIR HELP IN FINDING IT. I JUST HOPE THAT THEY LOOK DOWN AND HOPEFULLY SOMEBODY SEES IT, FIX IT UP AND THEY’RE GENEROUS ENOUGH TO FIND ME OR WHAT OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS AND RETURN IT BACK TO US. MORGAN’S CONTACT INFORMATION AND PICTURES OF THE BRACELET CAN BE FOUND ON WXII 12. WELCOME AND WINSTON SAL

Manchester, New Hampshire, police said a woman is charged after they found her baby boy in a New Hampshire wooded area.Alexandra Eckersley, 26, was arrested on a felony charge of reckless conduct as well as an unrelated charge from Concord District Court for endangering the welfare of a child.Police said the boy was treated by EMTs and hospitalized at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.District Fire Chief Jon Starr said the baby was exposed and in the cold. "It was hard for our crews to deal with," Starr said. Officials said the baby is alive and improving. "There is no excuse for this," Manchester police Chief Allen Aldenberg said. "If you choose to live in the woods and choose to live your life a particular way and you choose not to accept our outreach, fine. But you don't get to do this to do what we are alleging to a child."Police said they responded at 12:40 a.m. Monday to a woman who reportedly gave birth in the woods.Authorities searched the area for an hour with Eckersley's directions but could not find the child. They said Eckersley, who is the daughter of baseball hall-of-famer Dennis Eckersley, then told investigators the baby's true location and led them there. Investigators said the baby was in a large tent. There was a heat source that was turned off. Crews said they had to hike the boy out of the woods for a fire truck awaiting them. Police in Omaha, Nebraska, found a newborn on the sidewalk with no mother in sight. Officers said the woman gave birth and then left. They're thanking the good Samaritans who watched over the child while waiting for first responders. Sister station KETV NewsWatch 7 spoke with one of the witnesses. It was on the cold pavement where a baby was born on Sunday around 10 a.m. "Yesterday was wrong," Latrell Crane said. Crane said she witnessed the incident. "She came up over here, right? She was cold. She was in pain. She was crying and I know her," Crane said. Crane said a group of people realized what was happening, so they gathered blankets and wrapped the mom. That's when Crane said she ran to a nearby business to call the police. "I come over and the baby is on the sidewalk. Just in the fetal position, not breathing. Her umbilical cord still attached. And then ... it's just my instinct because I have two kids in my own, right? I grabbed a umbilical cord and wrapped around my hand," Crane said.According to Crane, the mom then wrapped a blanket around her waist and left while Crane said she took care of the baby boy.A police report said the mother was found nearby, behind a house. "I shook his chest. 'Come on, baby. Come on, come on, come on.' And he said, 'Wah, oh, wah,'" Crane said.Crane describes the baby as a cute boy with a full head of black hair.According to police reports, both mother and baby were taken in serious condition to Nebraska Medicine. The report said the baby was exposed to 15-degree temperatures for at least 5 minutes. Crane calls the experience "traumatizing" and said she cried all day Sunday. "I have two kids. My own two boys. That she just left him on the sidewalk, it's not cool. It's not cool at all. I was the one that saved him," Crane said.Police officials said they are still investigating and haven't made any arrests. Watch the video above for the full story.

A family is looking for answers after they say a 13-month-old died at a Louisville day care.Louisville Metro police confirmed they are investigating a death at Kayfield Academy II, near Anchorage. A report from the Cabinet for Health and Family Services says an inspection was conducted there on Jan. 6.That report found some violations and confirmed that a 13-month-old child suffered a medical emergency on Dec. 16.According to a release from attorney Sam Aguiar, that 13-month-old is Shivani Jishnu, and she died the day after the inspection. In the release, Aguiar and the family said that treating doctors believe she went without oxygen for more than 20 minutes before she was taken to Norton Children's Hospital via EMS.So far, no lawsuits have been filed, but Aguiar says the family currently has more questions than answers, and hope people will come forward with more information. They claim the day care was too slow to respond and waited too long before sending her to the hospital.CHFS' report says on the day of their inspection, there weren't enough teachers for all the students they were watching, and that loud music may have hindered their ability to hear children in distress. The day care said in a Facebook post last week that it cannot comment on specific investigations or students for privacy and confidentiality reasons.

at just a week old. Adeline Clarkin already has quite the story to tell. Not to be graphic, but she was coming. There was no waiting. It was last saturday when Jill and john called 911 after realizing Adeline was ready to enter this world sooner than they expected. There was a pretty urgent need to get some help because we weren't going anywhere on the other line was Megan by barrels of fort Collins 911 dispatcher. I honestly didn't think we'd get all the way through it because again, that doesn't usually happen in most cases the fire department arrives in minutes and helps with the delivery, but the engine closest to the Clarkin's was tied up and Megan had to step in using her years of knowledge. I wasn't too nervous until The dad was like, Oh boy, you know she's coming. It was just a very calming voice, which I think it turned made me I mean if she would've been freaking out, I think I would've been freaking out. Megan helped guide the two as Joel gave birth to baby Adeline in a bathroom at her home and anxiously waited for her first breath. I think it was about 10 seconds that and we could hear her crying so I knew everything was okay. Jill john brother Jacob and baby addie. We're all doing okay. Having learned life is unpredictable, no matter how much planning you do. She's £6.02 ounces and she's 19 inches long, she's just tiny, tiny little thing with a full head of hair and for the first time in Megan's 10 year career here, thank you. You did so good. She got to see a call like this all the way through. This is john meet the people on the other line. It really is so special they are. I'll remember it forever and she's prepared to do it again. It may never happen again in my career, but it was really special.

"There was no waiting."It was last Saturday when Jill Clarken and her husband, John, called 911 after realizing Addalyn was ready to come out sooner than they expected."There was a pretty urgent need to get some help because we weren't going anywhere," Jill said.On the other line was Megan Biberos, a Fort Collins, Colorado, 911 dispatcher. "I honestly didn't think we'd get all the way through it," Biberos said. "Because again, that doesn't usually happen."In most cases, the fire department arrives in minutes and helps with the delivery. But the engine closest to the Clarkens was tied up and Biberos had to step in using her years of knowledge."I wasn't too nervous until the dad kind of was like, 'Oh, boy, it's, you know, it's—she's coming," Biberos said. "It was just a very calming voice, which I think in turn made me calm," John Clarken said. "I mean, if she would have been freaking out, I think I would have been freaking out."Watch the video above for more on this story.

<p>ROSWELL, Ga. — Becoming a new mom in the middle of a pandemic was far from what Jessica Kitchel had ever planned. A few weeks before Christmas, this Atlanta-area resident gave birth to her son, Chancy.</p>
<p>"It's been pretty isolating being in the house not being able to leave. And once my husband went back to work, the walls started closing in," Kitchel said. </p>
<p>While mom and baby are perfectly healthy, the holidays and COVID brought about a particularly profound sense of loneliness this year.</p>
<p>It was on one of those rough days in December when Kitchel was waiting for a shipment of Bobbie baby formula for her newborn. When the doorbell rang, she had expected to just find a box, but instead, found a gift waiting to be unwrapped. </p>
<p>In the weeks leading up to Kitchel's delivery, UPS driver Dallen Harrell had noticed the blue stork balloons tied to the family's mailbox. A new dad himself, Harrell decided to leave Kitchel a message as he dropped off her delivery. </p>
<p>In the video message, which has now gone viral, Harrell can be heard saying, "If this is the, 'It’s a Boy House,' I hope all is going well with your newborn. I had a child around the same time you guys did. I hope everything is going good. God bless."</p>
<p>And then the message ended.</p>
<p>"We get deliveries a lot and I’ve never had anyone leave a message. I was blown away. I thought he was like an angel that came to my door," Kitchel said after finding the video.</p>
<p>Just two days after posting the clip to Instagram, Kitchel was able to find Dallen Harrell, the UPS driver who had left the message.</p>
<p>"I was hesitant if I was even at the right house, hesitant if I should say something," Harrell said about the video. </p>
<p>Harrell never expected anyone to see his doorbell cam checkup, and he certainly didn’t expect the gifts he’d soon get in return.</p>
<p>After Kitchel shared the video on social media, there was an outpouring of support for Harrell and his new family. Strangers were so moved they ended up buying out Harrell's entire baby registry, which had been sitting untouched for three months.</p>
<p>"He and his fiancé had not had a baby shower. They hadn’t had a lot of gifts given to them. They had made a registry that was untouched," Kitchel explained. </p>
<p>For Harrell, the whole experience has been life-changing. After seeing the video, UPS decided to offer this seasonal driver a full-time job. </p>
<p>In the last month, the video has circulated around the globe, and Harrell hopes it can be the kind of gift which is appreciated year-round.</p>
<p>"I just hope this will restore faith in humanity, and I hope the message behind, people continue to pay it forward."</p>

<p>Alaska State Troopers found a newborn baby in a cardboard box on Dec. 31, according to the Alaska Department of Public Safety.</p>
<p>The child was discovered at an intersection, and "seemed to have been abandoned at the location recently."</p>
<p>The agency said a note was left with the child that indicated the parent could not take care of the baby.</p>
<p>The letter, which is documented in the <a class="Link" href="https://nypost.com/2022/01/02/baby-found-abandoned-in-alaska-with-heartbreaking-note-from-mother/">New York Post</a>, says, "My mom is so sad to do this. Please take me and find me a LOVING FAMILY. My parents are begging whoever finds me. My name is Teshawn.”</p>
<p>The note says the child was born premature. It also says the child's biological family did not have food or the resources to care for the newborn.</p>
<p>The Alaska Department of Public Safety said the baby was taken to a hospital in "good health."</p>
<p>The agency is asking for anyone with information about the child's family to come forward.</p>

A New York family who came together by chance 21 years ago has now shared their remarkable story in a children's book.Pete Mercurio was walking out the door to meet his then-partner (now husband) Danny Stewart for dinner in August 2000 when his phone rang. It was Stewart, calling to tell him he'd be late. He'd found an abandoned baby in the subway and had called 911 from a payphone.Stewart, a social worker, had spotted a tiny bundle wrapped in a sweatshirt while walking through an eerily empty station. At first, he thought it was a doll, perhaps left behind by a child, until he saw a tiny leg move. He quickly discovered it was a newborn baby, the umbilical cord still attached.Mercurio, who authored a book about this chance encounter, spoke to CNN about that night, and about how he and Stewart ended up raising the baby as their own.The baby boy was just hours old when Stewart found him"He had actually tried to get on an express train and couldn't get on one," Mercurio recalls of Stewart's path that fateful day. "The fact that he even got on a local was kind of miraculous because who knows if he had gotten on an express if he'd even he even had found the baby."Mercurio says something made Stewart glance back at the bundle and see the newborn's small motion. The baby, a boy, was alive and breathing. Authorities said he was just hours old when they arrived.Mercurio ran to the station, a block away from his apartment, and found Stewart there with two police officers."One of them was carrying the baby in his arms," he says. "Just a chill raced up my spine. Like, it's an unbelievable thing."The baby boy was transported to a nearby hospital, and the men were overcome with emotion at what had just occurred."At one point I just turned to Danny and I said, 'You're going to be -- we're going to be -- connected to this baby in some way or another for the rest of your life.' I said, 'Maybe not tomorrow or next week or a year or five years from now, but eventually he's gonna learn about this night and he might want to try to find you and maybe we can send a gift or be in touch with him on this day, every year.'"The couple had no idea what was about to unfold.A stroke of good luck smoothed the adoption processThe baby, who was named Daniel Ace Doe after Stewart and the A/C/E subway line, was in the state's care while a citywide search was underway for the boy's parents.Three months later, Stewart was asked to testify at a hearing about the day the baby was found. The judge asked him an unexpected question."In December of 2000, at that hearing, the judge asked him, 'Would you be interested in adopting?' He said, 'Yes, but I know it's not that easy.' She said, 'Well, it can be.' We didn't know what she meant by that," Mercurio says. The two became foster parents to the baby, who they named Kevin, and adopted him two years later in December of 2002."And then that was it. We never saw the judge again. And in 2012, when we were deciding to get married, Kevin on a walk to school said he knew that there was a judge involved in creating our family," Mercurio says."We shared everything with him, so he knew everything. He said, 'Don't judges marry people?' So, I said, 'Do you want to meet the judge that finalized your adoption?' And he nodded his head. And so that's how I got in touch with the judge again, ten years later."When the couple spoke with the judge, they asked her how she was able to help facilitate Kevin's adoption so quickly. In one of many small miracles that brought Kevin to them, the judge said that at the time Kevin was found there was a pilot program in New York that gave her the authority to expedite the adoption process in specific cases of abandonment to place a baby in a loving home."She was able to make quick decisions to place that baby in a pre-adoptive home as quickly as possible," Mercurio says. "So he didn't languish in the system."That pilot program lasted only six months and was then discontinued, according to Mercurio. "So many little things like that added up without our knowledge," Mercurio says.Kevin is now a senior in college. He's not sure about trying to find his birth parentsAt the time Kevin arrived, the couple didn't have a lot of money. They were in student-loan debt, but they made it work. Family and friends got them everything they needed for Kevin, and they figured it out along the way.Kevin, now 21, is a student at Swarthmore College. Mercurio is sharing their family's story with Kevin and Stewart's encouragement, but they declined to be interviewed."We still can't believe it. I mean, we believe it because we have a 21-year-old kid that's graduating from college this spring," Mercurio says. "I love this kid more than anything in the world, I really didn't know this kind of love existed in this world until my son came into our life. And Danny feels the same way."As Kevin grew up, the two discussed their family story with him."We talked about how our family became a family openly in front of him. When he went in social gatherings, anybody would ask, we didn't shield him from hearing it from a very young age," Mercurio says. They wanted Kevin to feel positive about their family origin story, so Mercurio wrote a book about it that they read to him every night. When he was five, Kevin realized it was about him."I pasted together a book of his story, which tells the whole thing about Danny being on the subway and the baby being found," Mercurio says.Last year, that very personal story was published with the title "Our Subway Baby," which Mercurio calls a "love letter to our son."While Kevin's biological parents are still unknown, Mercurio says they feel only compassion for them."One way or another, that's a desperate measure to take. And I can only imagine the anguish that was leaving your child," he says. "We've always told Kevin from a very young age that he was left out of love, so that he could be found and cared for. We never used the word abandonment or abandoned. We said she left you where you could be found by us."

We'll open up your right, still gushing over the newest member of the family. Little Birdie Eve coming into this world just 18 days ago and she already has quite the story to tell. We thought it was gonna be the 24th but she's surprised to stop the tiny baby girl already delivering the best birthday present a grandma and great grandma could ask for. I mean how can you plan that? Really? How can you plan it? You kept saying I did from the day I heard she was doing september, I said she's gonna people weren't on our birthday, 60 year old Shelly Parker says birdies grandma next to her. Her mom gail now 96 september 12th 1926 1961 in 2021 yep you heard it right? Three generations separated by nearly 100 years. All born on the same day. I never thought she would have been born on my mom's birthday. And she has been saying that since the beginning it's going to happen on her birthday and I'm like no it's not, it's the 24 smiling now for new mom and dad, Marissa and Nicholas. The reason Bernie came when she did was a little scary health complications, forced marisa to be induced ahead of her due date over two weeks early. I couldn't have an epidural so I had to go in early so that I could have a safe delivery because if they want, if I waited any longer it wouldn't have been safe. So that's why I got induced early and I'm like oh well maybe she will be born on that day, induced on the 11th. Told to expect it to take until the 13th. Sure enough, Birdie arrived just when she was destined to. I can't really describe it. If you're wondering what the chances of this happening are we crunched the numbers according to us. Census. The probability is approximately one and 133,000 numbers aside. Great grandma, Gayle, put it best. You thank the good Lord. Yes, you do. You sure do on camera Pullum abc 15 Arizona.

A mother is back home in Texas after a long battle with COVID-19 in an Oklahoma City intensive care unit.Devisha Long credits her nurses for getting her home. But, she said, it has been a long journey. She was flown by helicopter from Dallas to OKC. She was placed in a medically-induced coma at Integris Baptist Medical Center and was in this condition for nearly a month. She became a mother during her hospital stay.“I surprised them. Oh, man, they were so excited,” she said. “You know, everybody was happy.”Long survived COVID-19 thanks to the innovative extracorporeal membrane oxygenation treatment. This week, she finally returned home to her family in Dallas. Her nurses watched the tender moment while huddled around an iPhone. “It was freaking awesome! I got chills. I cried, and I don’t cry. It was a breath of fresh air,” the nurses said. Their former patient hugged her sweet daughters for the first time in months. While Long was in a coma, Nurse Manager Rebecca Mitchell said she was very sick and was pregnant.“And then they had to do an emergency C-section before she came to us,” Mitchell said. “When I finally woke up, the only way I knew I wasn't pregnant is because one of the nurses from the other hospital had made a collage of the baby, and I seen him line up on the wall, and I looked and I was like, That's my baby,” Long said. She eventually woke up from her coma, holding her baby girl.“When I first held her and I was like, I can't believe, you know, this is you,” she said. For the nurse team at Integris, they’ve been running nonstop, experiencing tragedy treating COVID-19 patients. “It truly has been a hellacious year. I've seen more death. This just this past year than I have in the 10 years I've been a nurse,” Mitchell said. But this brief moment offered a change from the sad realities of the COVID-19 pandemic.“We all cried. I think we all teared up, because just that those are those moments that you, you need to kind of help rebuild to remind you why we do what we do,” she said. They remember why they continue their work.“Thank you for your positivity, thank you for encouraging me. You really helped me to remain strong,” Long said. “Even in the dark times of me being alone, y'all really did an amazing job and I just want to tell you how to continue to do the same because you're touching lives and making a difference."Long is still recovering from COVID-19, going to appointments in Dallas. As for her newborn, she’s at a Dallas hospital until she can come home.

A woman first charged with the neglect in the death of a 2-year-old is now facing a murder charge, as well.Police said a child, named Misty, died early Tuesday morning. Her father's girlfriend, Sarah Bierly, 30, of Pekin, was arrested that day and charged with neglect. On Wednesday, Indiana State Police said an autopsy report revealed Misty died of multiple blunt force injuries and her death was ruled a homicide. Now, Bierly is facing two additional charges: murder and aggravated battery resulting in death. In regard to the case, Washington County Prosecutor Dustin Houchin provided the following statement: "This case will require our best. Thankfully, our office has the experience, training, and determination necessary to meet this moment. We will see that justice is served in this case."WLKY talked to family Tuesday after Misty's death. Read/watch that story here.Jasmine Hardin, the child's aunt said, "She didn’t even call the cops immediately. She called the neighbor because she was so scared she was going to go to jail. She was so selfish and let that child lay there unresponsive and did not call the police until almost an hour later."We're told Misty's father was at work when the child died.A fund that will help cover the costs of the child's funeral has been set up at First Harrison Bank, 1312 South Jackson Street, Salem, Indiana 47167. Those interested in donating should mention the "Misty McDowell burial fund."

Giving birth to rare identical triplets.A mother from Oklahoma delivered three baby girls in June. The family is finally together after the two youngest came home from the hospital. Aspen, Kensli and Layken spent nearly two months in the NICU. “They were born at 29 weeks. So, they were all a little over two pounds. So, they were really small,” mom Stephanie Norman said. Small but mighty – and growing every day. “Aspen, she actually got to come home first,” she said. “The other two were still in the NICU, so that was really hard.”The Normans are all together now. Stephanie, dad TJ and 2-year-old Wyatt are adjusting going from a family of three to six. Stephanie gave birth to the triplets on June 2. “They all have their own sack, so since they all shared one placenta, that made them identical,” she said. The news of three babies came as a huge shock to the high school sweethearts. “We wanted one more and we were hoping it would be a girl. And then we were surprised we got three girls!” Stephanie said. “I kind of joked about it on the way there for the first ultrasound. Yeah, what are we going to do if we hear more than one heartbeat – and then there were three of them in there," TJ said. Big brother Wyatt couldn’t be prouder.“When they get up in the morning, he’ll be like, ‘Hi, sissy,’” Stephanie said.Telling the girls apart is a challenge.“We have little anklet bracelets on them right now of different colors with their initials on them,” Stephanie said. It’s three of everything now – a three-seat stroller and lots of diapers. But the Normans are grateful.

Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, enjoys celebrating special milestones during the births of its babies, so it was no surprise to see the hospital get in the spirit of the Olympics.Since Friday is the eagerly anticipated Opening Ceremony for the Olympics, Saint Luke’s decided to celebrate in its own special way with its own Mini-Team USA.“Our Saint Luke’s specialty-trained coaches passed the torch to kick-off the Olympic celebration and recognize our newest gold-medal babies,” the hospital said in a news release. Saint Luke’s said nurses helped crochet the gold medals for our newest “athletes,” who participated in a variety of games – swimming, weightlifting, boxing, basketball, gymnastics and tennis. “The crowds (the families) were excited to be a part of the special ceremony and will get to take the handmade outfits home with them to keep,” the hospital said.

Family members are pushing for justice and remembering the lives of a West End mother and her unborn baby girl. They said the man who killed them was supposed to protect them. Now, they want to make sure he pays. They said they are glad there was a quick arrest in the case.Beyond wanting to know why they were killed, they also want to make sure justice is served."It's hard to lose person, but to lose two and a baby," Michelle Sanchez said.A heartbreaking reality has devastated Sanchez. Her 31-year-old daughter, Michelle "Shelly" McDonald, is dead, as is her unborn baby granddaughter."I just feel so much pain that I just don't feel like it's going to ever going to end," Sanchez said.Family gathered to remember them on Sunday. They said Antonio Wilcox dated McDonald and was the baby's father.Police said he shot them in West Price Hill on Friday killing them.Loved ones told WLWT that McDonald's 4-year-old daughter witnessed the shooting.Neighbors said Wilcox has threatened to kill McDonald before, but no charges could be found to reflect that."Just a horrible person that they can do something like that to a mother and child, and to his own child," McDonald's cousin, Dorothea Young, said.Since 2004, Wilcox's criminal history shows convictions for obstructing official business, possessing cocaine, disorderly conduct and having weapons under disability.A court document from 2009 shows Wilcox threatened his child's mother with a gun and then discharged it. A second document shows he fired a gun on the front porch of a home.It also shows he was charged with domestic violence and endangering children, but those charges were dismissed in 2010.In June, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters took issue with how county courts handle dangerous, repeat offenders."She can call a bond hearing in an hour and she can explain to the people of Hamilton County why this little punk is walking our streets," he said.Deters said there will be no plea bargains on cases involving gun violence.McDonald's family hopes that means justice is coming."Not only did we lose our cousin, but this young man, he's gone for the rest of his life. He ain't going to see the light of day. We're going to make sure of that," McDonald's cousin, Adrian Blasingame, said.Wilcox should not have had a gun based on his history.Deters talked with WLWT on Sunday and said McDonald's family does not have to worry. He said it is a tragic loss of life and they will deliver justice to their family. The family has launched a GoFundMe account to help with expenses: https://www.gofundme.com/f/in-loving-memory-of-michelle-mcdonald.

I think there's gonna be 12341 is going to be a rollover, possibly a trap, a devastating crash during rush hour at a busy intersection in West Wichita Donald Lawson saw the whole thing first time I experienced it since I've been out here five years. So I'm like, this is the first thing I ever seen. Police say. These men, Jaime Chavez and Javon Irvine were suspects in an armed robbery at a West Wichita hotel Chavez was found near Maple and Ridge and was taken into custody. Urban left the scene quickly blowing through the intersection at Central and Ridge, causing a multi vehicle crash. The Brown is struck, got hit. Then the other car in the blue looked like they had jaws to raise the top up. Irvine climbed out of his truck and ran. Police caught him a short time later. 22 year old Samantha Russell died as a result of the crash. She was 33 weeks pregnant. Her husband tells us their baby boy was delivered shortly after she was rushed to the hospital. He survived and is doing okay. Lawson says the intersection is always so busy, especially at 5:00. He's just thankful he wasn't walking over to the gas station when it all happened. I'm glad I wasn't in that accident going across the street. They're good and got hit either way. Well, I could have been. Yeah.

When Maria and Joseph Sawaged made the decision to grow their family, they never could have imagined what was in store. "It took us almost five years to get to this point," Maria said. During those five years and many rounds of fertility treatments, the Sawageds experienced their fair share of disappointment. "We got a false positive," Joseph said, "I couldn't even go in because it was during COVID rules, so it was just one person at a time, and she came back. It was sad." After that, the couple decided to try one more IUI. Following the procedure, Maria went in for an appointment, and she returned home with a recorded message from the doctor. "She came over to me, she says like, 'Don't be scared or like don't be frightened of what you hear,'" Joseph said, "So I was like, 'oh this is gonna be bad news.' So she does the recording and the doctor saying, doctor said the same thing, 'Don't be worried. Don't be concerned. But you have four,' and I was like, what?!" After years of trying, the Sawageds are expecting quadruplets this spring. "It's exciting but nerve-wracking. Coming from having no babies at all, and now we're about to have four," Maria said. Not only is the couple expecting the first quadruplets at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, since 2017, but they've also been navigating this pregnancy amid the pandemic. "I was by myself the most of the time, and also like, we haven't been able to go to like the birth class or tour the hospitals or anything like that because they're not allowing it," Maria said. The couple said COVID-19 has also changed the role their loved ones can have. From hosting their gender reveal on Zoom, to limited visitors allowed after delivery. "You can't have your family around. You can't have your friends over just to talk about just what you're going through. I think that's the hardest part -- just not being able to have anybody around you," Maria said. It's certainly all been unexpected, from experiencing pregnancy during a pandemic to finding out four babies are on the way. For the Sawageds, these new additions are what they've been waiting for. "We hit the jackpot, absolutely," Joseph said, "Now we can kind of say that we did everything that we could. And finally worked out. So now we got, we got a lot going on ahead of us." The Sawageds are expecting three boys and one girl. As the couple transitions from no babies to four, if you'd like to send diapers to the new parents, you can do so here.

Pennsylvania police Officer Kristin Mitrisin was driving through the city of Pittsburgh on Saturday to take drugs collected during her department's drug take-back event to a facility when a father began flagging her down in traffic. "I heard beeping next to me. I looked over to the side, I saw a gentleman waving in his car," said Mitrisin. "I put down my window and I asked him 'Sir, do you need help with something?' He said 'Yes, I need you to get me to the hospital my baby is not breathing.'"Mitrisin said it took a second to register what he had just said."I said 'Sir, did you just say your baby is not breathing,' and he said 'Yes, my baby is not breathing' and I said 'You need to pull over right here. I have to help you here,'" said Mitrisin.Mitrisin said she performed CPR on the tailgate of the police pickup truck that she was only driving to transport boxes, in a community where she wouldn't typically be. "The baby finally took a gasp for air after about a minute of CPR," Mitrisin said. The officer said after a few more rounds of CPR, the baby, Olivia, began to cry. Mitrisin said the paramedics were still minutes away, but a new nearby emergency room was just seconds away. "I put the mother and the baby right in the police car we went right there. We were there in 20 seconds," said Mitrisn. "I took the baby from the mother and ran it into the doctors."According to the GoFundMe set up for Olivia's family, the doctors found the baby girl was living with a heart condition. "I just ask everyone to pray for the baby I hope she's able to make a strong recovery," said Mitrisin. "I'm just thankful I was there to help them on that day."
