Babe Ruth glove sells for over $1.5 million at auction

A baseball glove worn by Babe Ruth during his glory days with the New York Yankees sold for over $1.5 million at the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory auction on Saturday.The winning bidder wasn’t identified.Hunt Auctions said the price of $1,527,500 was the highest ever paid for a glove.The company said the glove dates to the Bambino’s time with the 1927 Yankees, considered one of the greatest teams in history. Hunt Auctions said Ruth gave the glove to Jimmy Austin, a longtime infielder with the St. Louis Browns, and that the mitt remained with Austin’s family.

A first edition copy of the classic novel "Frankenstein" sold for $1.17 million at a recent auction in New York.Christie's, which hosted the auction, estimated the book would go for $200,000 to $300,000. But by selling for nearly four to six times as much, the book set a record for the highest price paid for a published work by a woman, according to Fine Books Magazine.The copy was one of 500 originally printed anonymously by author Mary Shelley in 1818. It comes in three volumes and features the original hardcover boards. It also includes a preface by her husband, poet Percy Shelley, along with a dedication to her father, William Godwin, a journalist and political philosopher.This copy was the first to be auctioned since 1985.The literary classic tells of a scientist who brings a corpse back to life, creating a creature that goes rogue.

A partially shredded piece of artwork from Banksy is going up for auction.

"Girl With Balloon" began self-shredding after it was initially sold at auction for $1.4 million in 2018.

The work features a girl reaching for a red balloon.

According to NBC News, the buyer proceeded with the purchase.

It was renamed "Love is in the Bin," and will be offered for a price between $5.54 million - $8.31 million.

The artwork will go on display in London, Hong Kong, Taipei and New York prior to the Oct. 14 auction, The Associated Press reports.

A slice of Princess Diana's wedding cake could be yours. It's up for auction

Don't let them eat this cake.A slice of one of Prince Charles and Princess Diana's wedding cakes is up for auction 40 years after the nuptials were watched around the world.The iced slice came from one of the 23 official wedding cakes marking the July 29, 1981 marriage of the heir to the British throne and his shy 20-year-old bride. It features a marzipan base and a sugar onlay coat-of-arms, colored in gold, red, blue, and silver, on top.The piece of cake was given to Moyra Smith, a member of the Queen Mother’s household at Clarence House. Smith kept it in a floral cake tin and with a handmade label on the lid reading: "Handle with Care - Prince Charles & Princess Diane’s (sic) Wedding Cake" which she signed and dated 29/7/81.Smith's family sold the cake to a collector in 2008, but it is up for auction again Aug. 11. It is expected to fetch between 300 pounds ($418) and 500 pounds ($697), together with an order of service, ceremonial details and a royal wedding breakfast program."It appears to be in exactly the same good condition as when originally sold," Chris Albury, auctioneer and senior valuer at Dominic Winter Auctioneers, said. "But we advise against eating it."

A car driven by actor Paul Walker in the first installment of the "Fast and Furious" film franchise is up for auction in Las Vegas next month.

The orange 1994 Toyota Supra appeared in the 2001 film "The Fast and the Furious" as well as 2003's "2 Fast 2 Furious," auction house Barrett-Jackson says in its online description of the car.

Barrett-Jackson says "extensive documentation" and a certificate of authenticity show the car was used for multiple interior and exterior shots in the movies.

The Supra is a factory model with a turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine and a four-speed automatic transmission.

"The car was built by Eddie Paul at The Shark Shop in El Segundo, CA, for the first movie and brought back and modified by the original builder for its role as 'Slap Jack's Supra' in the sequel," according to the auction house. "The Supra would later be returned to original form, with the resplendent Lamborghini Diablo Candy Orange pearl paint and famed Troy Lee-designed 'Nuclear Gladiator' motif along the side."

The car will be up for sale with no reserve as part of Barrett-Jackson's June 17-19 auction in Las Vegas.

The "Fast and Furious" franchise has generated billions of box office dollars with eight films released so far and a ninth installment due out next month.

Walker starred in six of the first seven movies, appearing in the seventh posthumously after he was killed when the car he was a passenger in crashed in Southern California in November 2013. He was 40 years old.

Investigators concluded that Porsche Carrera GT driven by Walker's friend Roger Rodas was traveling at an unsafe speed for the road conditions. Rodas, 38, also died in the accident.
