It will not return. Why? The players will not have a monetary contract through the schools for the same amount. In other words, each player can decide what he or she wants which creates the problem. The NFL, NBA players have a bargaining agreement with all of the players which gives them all the same percentage from which allows for one price to be paid. There is no way that EA sports or 2K could play each individual player what they want and there are way more players on the college level. Now, with that being said this should be done. Game creators should allow individuals to create unlimited amount of tools to make faces, sizes ect… So, that way, they can have a contract just with the NCAA and they make generic players with various sizes so that it does not look like any athlete on the field. This would be the only way it could work. But, the players would be left out in that case. However, it saves game creators money.

Instead of being like Madden starting with the upcoming season, they could have started with the season 4 years ago, for instance, NCAA 2020 could start in 2016. By then, the majority of players are done and aren't bounded by NCAA rules and contracts so they could pay each player for their likeness. They've literally used real schools in Madden 2020 so using the schools wouldn't be a problem. Either use the roster from 4 years ago or just make a fake roster and try to avoid similar looking players. I don't know what's so hard about that.
